We had Family Night at the YMCA where I work… The seniors who attend could bring their care givers (family) … Invitation to all!
Caregiver meaning a Mom… a Dad… a brother… a sister… a brother-in-law…etc. …
Twenty attended… plus eight of us… who work there…
There were refreshments of cookies , snacks and drinks …
The room was decorated with paper lanterns and pastel tablecloths…
Our director greeted everyone… introduced us… and then explained a little about the YMCA’s projects… and our program…
I have to say, “I feel proud to work for such a wonderful organization”…
We all had some kind of duty…
Jennifer had made a list … I really like that!… of what our part would be…
Either, decorating… food… prizes … etc. …
I was to have a “make it” craft table…
I chose to print out a pamphlet on vegetables and fruits …
“Why seniors have difficulty getting these foods into their diet”…
and then we painted with “vegetables and fruits”… Cutting apples , pears, celery, cucumbers, peppers and squash in half to use for printing and painting pictures…
They had fun with this activity…
Okra…
Beans…
We also had a photo album table that is being made with each participant who is in the program… It is just beautiful!…
Another table was creating a “Family Tree” with Fingerprints
representing leaves of all who belong to your family…
It was nice to put faces to names… meeting who is so important to these wonderful people we care for…
We had a raffle… of tickets being drawn for prizes … and then they played BINGO … their favorite game!… It was a hit!
They lingered talking… and munching…
A good sign they were content and happy with what they had seen…
I love the Family Tree idea with fingerprints.
It was nice!…hoping to get my little family together one night for this project!
Love the painting with veggies and the family tree. These would be great activities for young kids too. Creative as usual! ~ Sheila
it’s like working with kids most of the time!
Okra makes a really lovely print – who’d have ever thought of that but you?
Did do it when younger with just a potato cut away to leave a raised shape…then got tips off of the internet…The okra was really pretty!
What a clever way to use vegetables.
it was unique!
