“A Phenomoenon Worth Seeing!”

We captured the phenomenon of a Double Rainbow  yesterday evening…We were driving North on Highway 71 when we encountered a pretty good thunderstorm  …My husband kidded about it looking like tornado  weather…Not Funny!…We had heard enough of the damage from tornadoes…After watching a huge black cloud  and then entering the heavy rain…we were a little concerned…but, the radio news said, “All is clear for tornadoes”… Thank Goodness!” …As the sun began to come out and shine on all the fresh washed leaves, grass and trees …There it was!…A huge Rainbow shining it’s bright colors  like it was so proud of itself and right above it was a fainter Rainbow trying it’s best to duplicate the other…and the two together made for an awesome sight!…We watched it for many miles…Each of us saying things we had heard about rainbows…”Pot of Gold”I wish!…”The Promise from God that the Earth would not be destroyed by flooding  ever again”…as He was speaking to Noah …… “The Peacefulness” and quiet  after the storm as a rainbow appears…”How Magical”  it seems…so out of the ordinary…I took pictures with my cell phone to show others…That’s how we feel when a Rainbow appears…we want to share it’s beauty!…A Rainbow is actually an optical  and meteorological phenomenon …a spectrum of light …The sun shines onto droplets  of moisture in the Earth’s atmosphere…and the rainbow appears in the section of the sky directly opposite of the sun…In a Double Rainbow like the one we saw…the primary is on the lower level and the brightest …The light reflects twice making the Double Rainbow…The colors of the rainbow are an artefact of human colour vision…These colors are “Roy G. Biv“…at least that’s how we remembered them in school…”RED< ORANGE< YELLOW <GREEN<BLUE<INDIGO<VIOLET Newton”  came up with these colors in this order in 1672…Originally only 5 colors until he added orange and indigo …In a Double Rainbow the colors are reversed in the second arch above the primary one below…making Red at the top on the bottom one and Red on the bottom on the top one…If you ever see such a phenomenon as this…check this little tid bit out…It will be worth it!

“My Kids!”…

Our school had teams for the students…we sometimes even called them “Families“…There were 6th, 7th and 8th Grade teams…The team that we were attached to was called “The Rainbow Riders”I’m not sure who thought of the name…maybe a student…maybe a teacher…the Rainbow idea seemed to mean that we were all different in color, faith, looks and smarts …but, as a team we helped each other…and we were one…They accepted our Special Ed Kids just like the rest…included them in field trips, parties, projects and socializing…They were great!…Of course the symbol used to represent the team was a White Cloud with a Rainbow …It was colorful to be sure…a good choice!… Our kids could be found drawing and coloring Rainbows whenever they had free time…They would ask, “What’s the order of the colors?”… It must have been a good sign to them… A Rainbow can represent Peace and Harmony …A Rainbow can be seen as something to wish on…a vision…a symbol of HopeRainbow flags  are used as a sign of a new era or of social change…All I can say is that when I saw those kids being accepted and included by their Rainbow Rider peers…it was a phenomenon!…Something to stop , pause and look at …

According to Christian religion and Judaic religion, after Noah’s flood the rainbow gained meaning as the sign of God’s promise that terrestrial life would never again be destroyed by flood (Genesis 9:13–17):

I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.
