Crisp, Cool Air…

We’re going to Glendale, KY … One of my favorite Fall Festivals… It’s actually called the Glendale Crossing Festival… A one day event but, huge!… It is the 3rd Saturday in October… so this year it is October 15th… Begins at 8:00am with a parade of local talent…tractors … horses… music … etc. … We get there from Louisville in about an hour… 53 miles… We’ve got this trip pretty down pat… Meet at Jerry’s Restaurant  on Preston… park our cars and hop in whoever’s car has decided to drive … Pitch in a little toward gas… We trade-off… Breakfast on the way down  or  … Get there about 8:30am…We know the route and the best place to park… We have only one thing in mind… have fun! … This means looking a lot!… eating at the Whistle Stop Restaurant  … buying something unusual! talking and laughing a lot! … trying different foods!  … and coming home tired! …Few men would understand or would do it… There are going to be 5 of us… Two friends I worked with… my cousin from Tennessee and my sister…It will be her first time… An experience awaits… There are hundreds of craft booths…selling anything you can imagine … lots of food vendors with all sorts of different good smells to entice your taste buds  … Quaint decor shops with the neatest gifts and antiques    … Some will Christmas Shop … Some will look and look and look and maybe not buy anything… Then there will be others with their arms so burdened down  with neat trinkets and finds… Old things , new things, Holiday things, homemade things  … Midday we begin to get in line to eat at the Whistle Stop…very historical… located right near the Railroad Track   that you cross over to enter this neat little town …but, no crossing except by foot today… Too many people! … I would recommend this eventful day to anyone who loves getting with good friends and enjoys the cool crisp fall air… Hot Apple Cider anyone?

“My Kids!”…

Autumn brought us to a market  where the kids could buy a pumpkin … We had negotiated a deal before we left with the farm or fruit stand we would be shopping at … Not the enormous ones that they would like to have…but, one they could hunt for and carry themselves… It was cute watching them go from one to the other picking the one that would be just right … Sometimes we walked out to the field and sometimes we rode out on a wagon … of course this was our favorite!… We’ve been to Huber’s Farm in IndianaTower View Farms in Taylorsville  and Slow Poke Farm in Shepherdsville … Just a wonderful day out in the cool air… Besides seeing pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns already carved … we saw cornstalks apples…farm animals  … horse-drawn wagons and tractors… apple cider …and sometimes homemade sweets and breads … I can just smell all of those flavors and scents mingled and wafting through the air… Find your jacket… Let’s go!
