Who’s Coming?

Gift…

I haven’t been outside today except to get the broom and mop off of the back deck…

I’ve dusted… cleaned carpet… run the vacuum … wiped and swiped…’til things are shining…

I’ve straightened… put things away… folded …’til everything is out of sight…

I’ve washed things… dried things …polished things…”til there’s a sparkle on everything…

I’ve chopped… mixed… stirred … cooked… baked and tasted …”til things seem just right…

I’ve taken a shower… washed my hair… put on a little make-up and dressed… “til I smell as sweet as a flower…

Can you guess what is happening???

Company is coming!… And everything has to be ready!…

To have company is special… and we were taught to give them your best… Whether that be with food … good manners… a clean bed  to sleep in … plans for entertainment if for a few days…

I think you get the picture!…

How do you prepare and greet company at your house?… Similar?… or do you have different traditions?…

Does it matter if it’s just for a few hours?… for a few days?… In town? .. or from another state?

Does it matter WHO the person/persons are?

Write a few words… I’d love to hear from you!

  1. Hi,
The same thing happens in my household as well, and the “good” towels are put in the bathroom, as well as the “good” tea-towels in the kitchen, usually some nice fresh flowers as well, and it doesn’t really matter who the visitors are, they all get treated the same. :)

  2. I am much the same…always feel I need to have everything just right! Sometimes I can even pull it off! Fortunately with just my husband and me at home now, it isn’t too difficult to keep things in decent shape, and if we are just having dinner guests, I don’t do that much extra house work. But I always use the occasion of someone coming to stay with us as an incentive to do some of the extra cleaning that needs to be done now and then, or incentive to tackle a house project…painting a room or something of that nature…helps to have a deadline for getting stuff done! ~ Sheila
