Visiting In Illinois

We finally made it to Illinois to visit my cousin who lost her husband to a tragic “farming accident” as was stated on the Death Certificate… k12191602
She and her daughters and several others found him in the field behind their home…

They have a farm and he had been out on his tractor… k15897726

The tractor had run over a fence and hit a tree… letting the wheels spin in the dirt until it finally stopped…

Whether he fell… or jumped off will never be known… but, he had punctured his lung with a broken rib

The shock of this was truly so hard on my cousin and her two girls…

and will continue for a very long time…

We weren’t able to go up when they had his Memorial Service… so we made it up this past weekend… to just sit, talk and visit… k8266618

We had a nice visit… seeing other cousins as well that we hadn’t seen for a long time…

Lee raised goats k13147421 at one time and he lately raised sheepk9051571

He loved this life!…

She has sold the sheep and one of the dogs has been taken by a friend…

The other dog, a Border Collie named Blaze   75px-Chloeonly  … greeted us with so much love!… He definitely is missing his master… since he followed Lee all over the farm and kept the sheep in reign…

My cousin can no longer keep the farm, animals and gardens without the help of her husband… so is looking elsewhere to move… hma0110

Hopefully she takes her time and views all of her options… which I’m sure she will!…

My husband, sister and I were the ones who went for a visit… and it was definitely heart wrenching at times… just thinking of her loss!…but, as women do… She is being strong… making decisions as they come… and being an ear for her daughters as they share their loss also… dougla0028s

She had the best country dinner ready for us when we arrived…

Of course we always seem to get turned around everywhere we go!… but, finally found our way!… ruggia0632c

It’s that we talk way too much instead of paying attention to our turn-offs!…

We had roast, potatoes, carrots, gravy, sliced tomatoes and cucumbers/onions…

and was it ever good!… Roasted-Autumn-Vegetables

We went to visit two other cousins of ours the next day…

Another great lunch…

This time… k13584702

Mexican Pasta Salad, Peperoncini Chicken, Peach Salsa/chips, fruit, and little cream puffs for dessert…

We talked for a couple of hours and thoroughly enjoyed our visit…

We left with a few tears u15723087 … lots of hugging… and hope that we will see each other again soon!…

  1. You did a lot on your visit. I always say the same thing, too bad it takes a tragedy to bring us all together, but we are all so busy in our lives, we just can’t be everywhere all the time. I am happy that your visit brought more than tears

  2. It is always so tragic to loose a distant loved one. I remember your phone call where you told me of your lose and your plans for a visit. I am sure that your visit did indeed help your cousin. Your kind words and lovely smile always brighten anyone’s day.
