Patriotic Cake

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I had bought this cake mix thinking I would make it for the 4th of July…

months ago…

I’m just glad I didn’t forget!

I decided to buy a plain white cake mix too…

A red, white , blue cake would be fun to have…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Mixed the blue batter after preparing the white…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Mixed the red next…

The colors have no flavor… Taste like white cake!…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I had enough batter to make two cakes…

so, my neighbor got the other one…

Put white in first…

Added blue next…

and then red…

It looked redder than what the photo shows…

Baked for 30 minutes…

a little longer for ours… which had a little more batter…

At this point the red took on more of a reddish chocolate cake color…

They had called it a Velvet Cake Mix…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

They turned out perfect…

one a bundt and one a tube…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

After frosting with white canned frosting…

I dyed a little of it with red food coloring…

and some with blue food coloring…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Placed in baggiesnipped the corners and squiggled red, blue on the white frosting…

Not perfection… but, colorful…

A few red/blue sprinkles…

and was ready for delivery next door…

They had a few friends over from work…

and was pleasantly surprised by the dessert…

My guys really liked the red, white , blue Patriotic Cake…

  1. The cakes look great! I love celebrating with patriotic themes on the Fourth. This year we are having a grand-daughter baptized tomorrow (The fifth), so today has seemed more anti-climatic than it usually does for us…tomorrow will be the big celebration this year. Have a terrific weekend. :)
