Cherokee, NC and Gatlinburg…

My boy is visiting… and “I like that!”…

We are appreciating each other so much more…

and respecting each others boundaries…

He is getting better physical care than ever before…

He always has refused Dr. care… of any kind…

I can’t go in that direction…

The tears would start to flow…

I’m taking each day as it comes from NOW…

********************

My birthday was this past Friday… along with my youngest son and a cousin in Illinois…

My sister, Bobby and I went to Cherokee, North Carolina… and spent two nights…

The weather was grey and rainy all of the way down… 6 hours!…

My highlight on the way down was FREE BREAKFAST… because it was my birthday… at Denny’s…

We had free room, free food and a few free dollars to spend… at the Hotel/Casino…

so why not!…

The room was great… spacious and very clean…

the Hotel is at the Cherokee Harrah’s Casino… just beautiful…

We went a different route… and it rained the whole time down… and after almost being run over by a semi

We were ready to get there!…

We played slots, ate and talked…

and finally went to bed much earlier than we usually do …

WE WERE TIRED!…

We went over the Smoky Mountains to Gatlinburg, TN the next day…

Sun was shining bright and the view was breathtaking as usual…

The sky was a beautiful blue and fairly warm…

Ice covered the side of the mountain… but, roads were fine…

The town was a bustle with tourists… more crowded  than in the summer…

Bumper to bumper traffic and the sidewalks were crowded with shoppers, sightseers and lines of folks waiting to get into restaurants and attractions…

Very crowded… Christmas was still hanging around…

We opted to go out-of-town a little ways and ended up at Mountain Lodge Restaurant

on the East Parkway… right outside of Gatlinburg…

Never had been…

Not some place that would attract you… by outside looks…

But, the service and food was really good!…

Home cooking…

Open for breakfast and lunch closing at 3:00pm I read…

Glad we tried and will return…

We decided to forgo stopping in downtown… we have all been there…

Just too busy and parking would have been hard to find…

We made our way back over the Mountain to Cherokee… Stopping at a Cherokee Museum and display of log buildings of a homestead of long ago…

and looked around…

I liked this saying!…

“… it was more like livin’ in the Garden of Eden than anything else I can think of.”

It felt good to be out and getting some fresh air… although we could tell the air was getting colder by the hour…

When we returned to the Hotel… we went back to the casino… and won enough to pay for our trip expenses…

Nice way to leave…

The next morning there was a light covering of snow… in the hills and on the ground…

so pretty!…

We were told not to go over the Mountain but, to return the way we came down… so we did…

Ice and mountains didn’t sound good to us…

Made it home in time to go to my son and my birthday dinner at their house…

Salad bar, all kinds of pizzas and cake/ice cream completed our day!…

My nephew, Jon… made me this huge Jam Cake (HOMEMADE)… and it was wonderful…

Thanks Pam and Melanie… It was great!…
