“Good for the Soul!”

A niece asked us down to her house on Rough River…

I know she felt it would be good for us to get away for a while…

and view different scenery…

and she was right!…

Bobby, Doug, my sister and I drove down together…

The weather cooperated by not raining while we visited…

Cheryl has a knack for decorating…

and it shows in her country home…

She has painted… refurbished… bought unusual items to use a different way… planted flowers… and enjoys cooking for others…

Her yard is a maze of different bird feeders… OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

and an old wooden cart with iron wheels… sits in the yard in view… filled with big pots of red/white flowers… OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

They have made this place into a sweet home… OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

that includes 3 foster children…

The children have flourished being in this environment…

We were met by a mother cat and three of her babies that have not found homes…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

and another cat that seems so put out with all of the hullabaloo over those pesky kittens…

The momma cat purrs and talks with small noises constantly to her babies…

They are all over her and the house…

even making their way to the front porch…

The Momma brought us a present of a caught chipmunkSo proud of her kill!…

we were not as enthused!…

Dinner was ready!…

Spaghetti/ meatballs… salad and hot rolls…

Later… Moist Chocolate and Lemon cake served with coffee on the porch…

We walked around to view the yard… and her brother’s place next door…

There are several people they know who live or have camps in the area…

They get together and enjoy cooking… talking… swimming…boating…and riding around on golf carts and small vehicles to go from house to house…

We took a ride to tour the camp ground… and the birds were abundant

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Red headed woodpeckers were everywhere… along with so many other kinds…

All who live there have made their camps their own… OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A place to rest… enjoy… and be with their friends/family…

We left before the rain set in…

Tornado warnings following us home… with huge black shelf clouds hanging overhead…

We made one slight stop at the cemetery where my Great-Grandparents are resting…

Born in the 1800’s and was brought by horse and wagon for the 100 miles to their final resting place…

I made an etching of the tombstone for my brother…

He would laugh at my sister and I standing in the cemetery…

showers beginning… umbrellas being held by my sister…

as I laid paper on the stone and rubbed with a black crayon to get the words carved into the stone…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We made our way back to the car… as Doug is telling us a tornado has been spotted a few miles behind us…

My brother calls my sister and I “the twisted sisters”… and we almost got caught up in one for real…
