Daily Prompt: Playtime

Do you play in your daily life? What says “playtime” to you?

Photographers, artists, poets: show us PLAY.

I drew and painted these memories of play when I was young…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Dad put up a swing between two “twin” trees

that grew close together…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I would swing as high as I could…

trying to touch the limbs with my toes…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

When I grew too big to swing between the trees…

and my playing days changed…

my Mom placed this wagon wheel between them…

and the trees grew around them…

I felt the trees embraced me as I played for many years … and then embraced the wagon wheel… when I left…

Summer Solstice

Then followed that beautiful season… Summer.

Filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light; and the landscape

lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood.

~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Summer’s Lot            by: Marilyn Griffin

Sun reaching highest point…

Sunlight direct… overhead…

Ancient celebrations…  anoint…

Written tablets read…

Equator… North of Hemisphere

Sun… seems to stop…

Some may look in fear…

While others look atop…

Summer’s Day… longest now…

Showing off its ware…

Farmers know it’s time to plow…

Winter clothes we bare…

Days becoming very hot…

Following… a Super Moon

This becomes our lot…

Summers heat reaching Noon!

sweet – lavender – flute – heir – willow – bask

You may use all six words if they fill in naturally OR you may work off only one if it better feeds your page. Take a moment, look them over and write…freely.

“Soon to be Queen”           by: Marilyn Griffin

To bask in the warm sun…

Willow tendrils waving in the breeze…

What a feeling of contentment

The sweet smell of lavender…

drifting through the air…

Music of a flute caressing her ears…

A princess… an heir…

706339_445347928856948_586625765_oWent downtown the other night…

Actually went over the Ohio River Bridge to Indiana to attend an art class….

It’s called “Downtown Canvas and Cocktails”…

I imagine these events have hit your town as well…

This one was my first…

and loved it because my nephew was holding it… He’s an excellent artist… but, this is just a side-line from his pastoral job

He’s fun… energetic… and has the talent to help us “wannabes”…

They provide the easels, canvas, paints, aprons, instruction with  wine and snacks of cheeses, crackers and fruit

Great combo!

I admit… I do paint… but, self-taught… Just comes natural… but, could probably use some lessons to perfect my God -given talent…

I forgot to mention every night the classes are held… there is a different subject… This night it was a “PEAR”… and you interpret it any way you want… Such talent comes out… all good in my eyes!…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A niece, Whitney… her “green pear…on a blue/purple background…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Carol Ann (another niece) chose more of a “red pear” on a variegated background of bright green, yellows and rosy pinks…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Phyllis… Carol Ann’s mother-in-law chose a more abstract style

I really liked this!….

with a “pair” of “pears”…

Similar colors of her daughter-in-law…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Molly (niece) made a lovely “yellow pear” on a background of purple, orange, yellow…

She’s signing her masterpiece…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

If you can keep from looking at Lindsey’s (niece) beautiful smile

This was her first attempt at painting… and I loved her different color combo…

and finally mine…

I took a piece of my wallpaper border to match my painting…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

a few touch ups and it will be hung in my kitchen soon…

I forgot to tell you…

The cost is minimal in thoughts…

All supplies as mentioned with instruction… a night out with some friends…

a “nice” drink/snacks$35.00…

I hope to return another night… wondering what subject might be offered…

Daily Post: Ready-Set-Go… Only 10 Minutes!

http://dailypost.wordpress.com

Set a timer for ten minutes. Open a new post. Start the timer, and start writing. When the timer goes off, publish.

I’m starting to write as my husband is watching TV… My son is pacing the floor… I’m so tired of television… it gets to be so boring with all of the news blaring… ads for everything no one needs… and movies that have been seen a dozen times… Don’t get me wrong… I like certain shows…but, Saturday night stinks for us trying to have something to watch…I started to rent the movie, Taken Two… when I went to Wal-Mart earlier… but, then decided against it… Mainly because a teenage boy was looking… very slowly… through all of the titles…

I had some shopping to do… My two guys were hungry!… Bobby is redoing our half-bath off of our bedroom…It has only been papered and painted… We want to open up the area a little by taking off the closet doors… redoing the little pink tiles on the floor that have been there since 1969… That was two years after I graduated from High School… and now I’ve been graduated over 45 years…

My son paces when he is bored… like me I guess… Although I don’t pace… He is bi-polar and it helps him to relax… Just makes me nervous sometimes… but, I’ve learned to just let him do it… He loves it when we are working on the house… He is so talented with his hands… but, it makes him so nervous… if not done exactly right… that he is unable to work… He is on disability… He has wonderful ideas… and is an avid collector… He keeps his area… the whole basement… in tip-top condition… Anyway he gives his Dad lots of supervision when we are doing make-overs… and I know if Bobby wasn’t the patient sort that he is… it would drive him right up the wall… No one could be as good as he is with our son… I guess that’s why God gave Doug to us… We love him no matter how he acts… He can’t help it!

“I Did It!”

Memory-Keepsake-Gift…

Two  years ago while in Panama City header_seal on vacation … my Granddaughter who was then sixteen… wanted to get a tattoo floral-tattoos-designs-53

Of course Mom and Dad said, ” No”… and used the phrase so many parents do with teens… “When you are 18!… Then you don’t have to have our permission” ...

I listened to their conversation and made a promise k0003042 that I would get one with her when she turned 18… I was then 62

I love the art in tattoos… Not all of the things depicted… but, a pretty butterflyk8701480 … a cute frog41bzXv2sXhL__SL500_AA300_ flowers floral_tattoo_designs_9.png special sentimentsNot all over your body!… then you can’t see the details of any of them…

Just something pretty

but, then “Pretty” to me is not what all of us see…

I like to paint and draw k8455764 … so there is something in them that I connect with…

Last summer we didn’t go on vacation with the family and I get a telephone call k7489916 from Taylor…

Grandma“… I hear her precious voice say…

Before she said another word I said, “I know!…you got a tattoo!”…

“How did you know?”, she says… worried that I would be disappointed

Because if I was a teen and my parents said “OK”… and I was at the beach… I would have done the same thing…

She had been saving her money ti075d0302from her job she works after school and on weekends…

She was 17 and is quite mature

We talked about what she got and she texted me a picture of it…

IMG_7625

It was very tasteful… and the verse was “her”She flies with her own wings!”… My independent… take care of myself little girl…

So when she turned 18 last Tuesday… a week before… she asked me, “Are you still going to get a tattoo with me?”…

130120_011

I said, “Pick the place, time and date… and pick me up”…

and so on her birthday we went to get the design I had chosen…

130115_001This was the first drawing…

She wanted one just like mine… she called it, “Grandma/Granddaughter” tattoo…

Was I not honored!…

We went to “Tattoo Charlie’s” … the best known Tattoo parlor in Louisville… the most popular place to get one… Do they still call them that?…. a parlor???

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThey give you a post card and $10.00 off your next tattoo…a balm to apply for a week…and “Pike’s” business card…who did my tattoo…

They were exceptional in all areas…

k11889509

from greeting and talking to us…

cleanliness and safety…

friendliness…

quick service…

Great Results!…

being discrete…

They can’t take away the pain… because it does hurt a littlek1205443

… but, not anything we couldn’t stand…

Nice conversation from our “Artist”, Pike… who definitely is an art person who has perfected his trade…

I asked many questions… since I actually had thought of the trade for myself at one time…

Very interesting… the competitiveness he described…

I left thinking…”I really did it!”…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe writing on upper right corner is just on the photo…for me to remember the date…although I won’t forget!

IMG_1004-001

“Pike” tattooing my shoulder…”OUCH!”…

and Taylor just saying, “It hurt more than I remembered”…

This was a “bucket list” item for me…k9486576

and probably just the beginning of adventures for my girl… because …
