“Just Do It!”

Saturday was a busy day!

My son had signed up all three of the kids (my grandkids) in a 5K race

I understand that’s about 3 miles

He had seen a sign up at a church near their subdivision…

It was to be part of the Spring Festival  k9465810 of the small town they had moved to recently…

They love the atmosphere of it…

He runs… but, hasn’t lately due to moving, etc. …

So, no doubt he was all up for it!

and they were all willing!…

Ages 8, 11 and 18… and a cousin that’s 20 wanted to run too…

They picked up their numbers… and were up bright and early

It was a spur of the moment thing… That’s what I like about Brian… Just Do It!‘… is his motto… like the NIKE commercial

and Raven, their cousin… seconds later…

Finishing was the objective…

A little running… a little walking

And, “They Did It!”… k3166575

They were proud I could tell… as I talked to them… when we met later that evening… for Kennedy’s Birthday Partyk6502549

The oldest was truthful in saying, “I probably won’t do it again!”… but, with graduating k6351412 from High School and College on her mind… I can understand…

The other two… probably would be willing to go for it another time…

especially if Daddy says, “Let’s Do It!”

Brian informed me that the girls actually slept later… and were awesome…

He was pleased to get some shuteye… after a full day with the kids!

He’s a good Daddy!… and he “just does it! “… nike_logo

Youth Coaches …Beware!

My son Brian, played football when he was quite young…It was called “Pee Wees” I believe…It was through a Youth League and near our home …He loved it! and continued playing through High School…I believe he would say it was a highlight in his early years…Wearing his uniform , having a special # on his jersey…having pride in his teams name, the “Cowboys”   and then the “Bulldogs”  …I believe he would say he learned discipline…what it is to win and lose and how to handle that…Congratulating other team members with a high 5 or a pat on the back…when inside they felt so bad about loseing…He went to every practice…He listened and tried to do whatever the coaches were teaching him …He learned plays …He tried to be tough…but, also he tried to be a part of the team…He was a leader…Now, his son Carson, is going to try to play…I say try…because it is something new for him…will he like it like his Daddy?…Who knows?…He has his equipment…he will have a team jersey with his special # …and he will have the support of his family …We will go and root  him on…Now it is up to him to practice…to learn the rules and plays …to follow the coaches directions …He’s great at this at school…so I believe he will try his best…He’s played soccer , has played basketball , has played baseball…So he knows how team playing works…Tonight Dad has to work…Mom has to work …so it is up to Grandma and Poppy to take him to his first practice…You better be nice to my Grandson, coaches …ya hear?…

“My Kids!”…

Some of our boys and girls played organized sportsbaseball , soccer, basketball and even football There were organized sports at school that some participated in…such as basketball, volleyball …but, after school sports participation came from their parents or a family member…The parents of these children had to give them their time …they had to get them to practices…they were there to cheer them on …they had to be involved…I think this is the reason sports can be so beneficial…the involvement of parents, children and friends/family…I knew of some of our students involved in swimming …bowling …track…Some of this was through Special Olympics …They had practices, played the games and then had tournaments …I would compare this to the playoffs of regular children in sports…As I’ve watched during these times…I saw the pride, the determination, the excitement and pleasure in winning  anything from a certificate, a ribbon or a trophyWay to go coaches!
