Weekly Photo Challenge: Let There Be Light!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The sun is coming up… “Let There Be Light!”…

If you look closely you will see a little face peeking out from our bird feeder

NO… it’s not a bird… although a Cardinal came by looking for food k12490074… and had a little surprise…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

As the light (sun) gets brighter… a little body stirs…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The sun (light) has awakened our new baby…

She has made our bird feeder into her own little house…

We added a towel for comfort and warmth…

and she seems to be quite content sleeping in it…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

She did come in…

making herself quite comfortable…

on the chair by the Christmas Tree

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Later… found her sound asleep…

stretched out under the “warm lights” of the tree…

It seems “Kitty” was pleased with the light also!

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. Genesis 1:3-4

She liked it … and like me… doesn’t like to get rid of things that can be restored…

I looked up photos of the birds… to help me get their coloring right…

Daily Prompt: Early bird, or Night Owl?

I’m both…

I love getting up early… and having the whole day ahead of me… My only stipulation… since I’m retired… is that I get up when I want…k11730938

Usually this is pretty early… because I love that first cup of coffee by myself… Nice and hot with a little cream… u16966773

I like my morning routine with my kitty cat

Her talking to me… getting her scratching and rubs… and me getting a few wet scratchy tongue kisses on my hand… leg… foot… well, wherever she decides…szo0016

I then check my emails… Facebook… blogs…u13656209

also checking the news by internet

Afterwards… I might wander outside on pretty days watching the sun risek9055265 … sit in our swing… drink a few more drinks of coffee k1098975 Pick a weed out of the flower beds u21492557 … listen to the birdsk10285438 …and watch our crazy squirrels

So… I am an Early Bird
At the beginning I said I’m both…

You hadn’t forgotten that had you?

I say I’m a Night Owl too… because I watch my favorite TV shows k6481286 late because that’s when they are on… I seem to get a second wind later at night… and also since daylight savings time… we have longer days…. and I don’t want to waste a minute of it!…

I seem to actually fight going to bed… the fight being inside of me

I keep finding something to do… be it readingk12110670 computer game… or bloggingSSH0003

But, when I finally lay down k8266661 … It feels awesome and I am fast asleepk11199174

So I’m an early bird catching the worm k0565114

Photo  and Post inspired by Kellie Elmore…

……………………………………………………………..

The birds were just sitting there… So many of them had been caught…

Not for any reason… just for the hunt…

They cawed as Crows do…

The sound was deafening…

I tried to shut it out…

but, to no avail…

I had been in this cell for so long…

Actually the birds gave me some pleasure…

Their beauty… their sounds… their black wings flapping…

So desperately wanting to be free..

I was unable to feel anything as of late…

My soul had lost its will to live…

But, with their screeches echoing in my head…

I felt that tinge of what I used to call freedom…

I lean my head back and close my eyes…

I visually picture me outside this prison of bars…

I picture me entangled with them… these large black feathered creatures…

Strings attached to my hands…

Take me with you please…

I could feel myself being lifted above the ground…

Light as a feather… their strength… overcoming my weight…

and in some way I could almost feel freedom again…

and my soul sparked alive…

Daily Prompt: Cliché

Clichés become clichés for a reason. Tell us about the last time a bird in the hand was worth two in the bush for you.

If anyone lived by this “cliché “ … it’s me!…

cfr0071

I believe I got this from my Dad

He always felt that keeping what you have is so much more important than using it unwisely

This probably came from the depression era… when he owned a wallpaper store k5660825and all of his savings and business were lost…

It took him a long time to trust banks k12370604 for this reason with his money… He would rather stash it in a secret hiding place sca0435 than earn what little interest they offered…

Starting over is so hard…

I don’t mind working hard… but, in doing so… I want to use what I’ve earned in the best way I can…

I can stretch a dollar pretty far!…k4197639

I don’t like taking chances… like playing the lottery… doing scratch tickets which is so popular… or wasting on frivolous funk11843414

I would rather get something I need… to make my life more comfortable… like a new couch over a short excursion

I know I will have the couch for a long time k1744005… but, the excursion will give me a few memories for a few days and will probably make me feel worse for spending the money…

That’s just me!… but, being married changes that…You have to consider the other person’s wants/desires…and so… even though it’s tough… going against everything I think is the right thing to do… I will consent… and give in to their wishes x18503911 ...

I’ve been told …”You won’t get ahead… if you don’t take chances!”

“How do you know it will turn out like you think… unless you try!”

and yes!…I’ve seen success with people who do this…k6237825 u15082881

But, inside of meinstilled deeply… is this saying…

k0969723

“A bird in the hand… is worth more than two in the bush!”

Take a piece of bread of your choice… whole wheat, white, french… and cut a hole out of the middle… save the circle of bread … (I used the top of my spray oil)… it was handy!

Now place in melted butter in skillet…

Break an egg into the center… Are you seeing the idea of an egg in the nest???

You can leave the egg yellow whole… which is probably preferred by many… but, I must have my eggs DONE!… so I break mine…

Salt/Pepper to taste… I like pepper!… let brown a little…

Daily Prompt: Through the Window

Daily Prompt: Through the Window/ The Daily Post

http://dailypost.wordpress.com

Go to the nearest window. Look out for a full minute. Write about what you saw.

I hear something… What is it??? … Maybe a bird k6060630 maybe a squirrel???

I jump upon my little stool placed right by the window… it was Bobby’s idea… and Marilyn made the soft red cover for it…

They make feel like a princess!…

I look out and view the front yard… I sit for about a minute… maybe more…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The sky is gray today… Very warm I can tell… because the kids have been out playing a lot today… Rain will soon be coming in… A storm maybe… and that’s when I will run to the basement…

The birds are quiet… like they know they better head for shelter… Usually they sit up in that big tree right outside the window… enticing me with their Tweets… and those pesky squirrels jumping from limb to limb… They are so relentless in their search for a nut hidden in the ground months before 75px-Blacksquirrelrevdigging with their paws…

The grass is green in spots… not having completely died for the winter… The sidewalk…  sometimes walked by Chewy the Dachshund dog Short-haired-Dachshund that lives next door..

He’s the reason I would rather just sit in here and look outside the window…. He barks and barks and just makes me a nervous wreck

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

There’s a bush right in front of my view… but, I still enjoy looking out… Sometimes that pretty black cat with white patches sits right on the ground in front of me… looking up and meowing… I have to act like I don’t want him there… This is my Master’s house… and mine!… But, actually as I paw at the window and meow I think he thinks I’m flirting

I’m not too old to dream…k1029721

I am getting up in age… 12 years old for a cat is pretty old… I think human’s call themselves Seniors… What would you call a cat that has reached her age of just wanting to sleepeat my favorite Meow Mix… get petted and combed… and sometimes even sneaking in at night to sleep over Marilyn’s head… I’ll have to think of that while I sit here… and just look and see if anything new passes by my window

Two Turtle Doves…Well, Maybe Not!

Gift…

I thought we might have  “Turtle Doves”… like they sing about in the Christmas song…”The Twelve Days of Christmas

but, after a lot of reading and comparing colors, sizes and sounds they make… I have to come to the conclusion we have what’s called a “Mourning Dove”

The name sounds so sad… like they are in mourning over the loss of one of their friends…

There are European Turtle Doves   … which have a rather deep, vibrating “turr, turr” purring song… and from where their name… “Turtle Dove” is derived…

There is the Oriental Turtle Dove   who has a sound that goes “her-her-oo-oo”

http://youtu.be/YO13jkkUhds        “Sound of Mourning Dove”

The name for Doves or Pigeons which is used somewhat interchangeably… is Columbidae

There’s a “Dusky Dove” andPeace Dove  who is white in color… The Peace Dove is looked at as a symbol for Peace by many religions… along with the Olive Branch sometimes being held in it’s beak…

Our Mourning Doves which have decided to sit in our tree in the front yard have a sound that goes…”coo ooo woo woo woo ooo”

These sweet birds who stay with their mates at least through winter… are also hunted… and used for food here in North America…

Quite the delicacy are the young birds called “Squabs”…

I’m not into this… so maybe that’s why our little Doves/ Pigeons have decided to spend some time in our trees…

At last count… there were twenty… and they are quite safe with me…

“Colors of God!”

I was forwarded an email showing these lovey creatures of God… His handiwork is quite awesome… I think we sometimes need to be reminded… so I’m sharing these beautiful bird photos in all of their glory…

Only a fragment that nature has to show us… and thank goodness for the technology we have to be able to share these beautiful sights with others… I hope they make you stop and take a moment of silence today and just take in the wonder of God

“Colors That Only God Can Do!

After The Rain

Gift…

After a good rain like we had this morning… I love to walk around and look at everything… The flowers… grass… and backyard in general has had a good bath… all shiny and clean

I go barefoot all of the time… I really like the feel of the grassdamp and cool…the ground… slightly muddy and soft… and the roughness of the concrete pavers and stones

The sun is coming out again… leaving some of the droplets on things sparkling in its light…

New seedlings are lifting their tiny heads…wanting the warmth of the sun to shine on them…until they grow taller and eventually bloom

The baby bird in the red bird house is resting… until he peeps so loud that Mom and Dad begin to look for food for him… He’s quite a talker!..

We sit in the swing that needs a second coat of paint…although I kind of like the rustic look it has become with the first…Might even leave it that way…

The bird bath that I turned into a little flower-pot of sorts is showing off its little leafy sprouts of Marigolds…

The bench that no one can sit on anymore… will get painted eventually… and hold more flower pots… too rickety to sit on…but, like it for another purpose now…

My new brightly colored tins attached to the deck rail are showing signs of filling with yellow… gold… and orange Marigolds when they mature…

The deck has had its rain wash… so I can just sit on its steps and enjoy the evening… maybe lighting a fire in pit… The concrete stone it sits on is from my Mom and Dad’s house that my Dad built with his own hands… and Mom so tenderly added to over the years…

My yard is not fancy… but, is shared with my little family… and adding memories every day…

Enjoy the tour of our backyard… It’s quite peaceful…
