Weekly Photo Challenge: Let There Be Light!

The sun is coming up… “Let There Be Light!”…

If you look closely you will see a little face peeking out from our bird feeder…

NO… it’s not a bird… although a Cardinal came by looking for food … and had a little surprise…

As the light (sun) gets brighter… a little body stirs…

The sun (light) has awakened our new baby…

She has made our bird feeder into her own little house…

We added a towel for comfort and warmth…

and she seems to be quite content sleeping in it…

She did come in…

making herself quite comfortable…

on the chair by the Christmas Tree…

Later… found her sound asleep…

stretched out under the “warm lights” of the tree…

It seems “Kitty” was pleased with the light also!

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. Genesis 1:3-4

Birds Are Much Happier!

I had painted an old wood ironing board that was my Mother’s for my niece…

and then she hands me this to redo…

It had been outside and the sun had removed all of the color…

She liked it … and like me… doesn’t like to get rid of things that can be restored…

I looked up photos of the birds… to help me get their coloring right…

There is an Oriole,

Dove,

Bluebird,

Cardinal,

Sparrow

and Wren…

All are quite beautiful in their own way…

and the sign will WELCOME all who come to my niece’s home!

After I spray it with some clear acrylic… it will last longer outside…

Looks a little better I would say!

Art has been a part of my life forever…

My coloring books when I was young were my best friends… and don’t touch my crayons…

They were almost sacred to me…

It seemed when someone used them… they always ended up broken…

I really hated to have anyone else color in my books… but, I did… to be nice…

I remember coloring the girls in my books with blue hair… my favorite color…

I just said recently, “I must have foreseen the future of dyeing hair!”…

I later started drawing… then painting … crafting and decorating…

I still get excited with color… textures… unique art work…

Something that speaks to me…

New paint… brushes… materials… draw me to them all of the time…

That section of the store is so me!…

I thought I would share some of the art in my house… not, expensive art… just things that make me happy…

This rustic blue chair… loved its color and story of being there now… just to hold flowers… not sturdy enough to hold a person any longer…

My blue again… Blackberry Pickers… Family… Children… out on a summer’s day…

Kind of a retro look… of kitchen items… and my color blue…

says to me… come and sit a spell…

I painted this one… Have just now started hanging some of my paintings…

The pear and colors match my Wallpaper Border in my kitchen…

These are a few of the Cardinal Birds I framed… for my computer room… Louisville Cardinals and Kentucky’s State Bird… Just funky and cheerful… for a place I use a lot!

Loved the bright pink and black accents for my Paris Themed Bathroom…

Metal Wall Hanging… Paris theme… Just too cute!

I painted this little Parisian Artist… design taken from wallpaper…

I liked the simple lines of this Painting I did…

I even hung it… in my hallway…

The colors grabbed me for my spare bedroom… Lavender and green…

Peaceful… relaxing… but, cheerful too…

The metal sculpted Iris was so unique and seemed to go with this picture…

I love kitties… so this was MINE!… and went with my feminine theme in my spare bedroom too…

Another painting I did… trying to tie in all of the bright colors I had chosen for my bigger bathroom…

pink/peach/salmon/orange/yellow/red/teal blue…

Flower plate that I just had to have… matches my ideas for my brightly flowered bathroom…

As you can see… I surround myself with color/art…

Daily Post: A Room Of My Own

I’m not unhappy with my little room that I have acquired to write my blogs… it was a small bedroom before this…

It’s not exactly like I would want it… but, I have a computer table… chair…

phone… file cabinet… light… drawers for “stuff”… waste basket…

a small radio to listen to soft music…

a retro clock found at my thrift store… just seemed to fit…

my camera for my photos I want to take… pens/pencils/paper/ruler etc. … a printer…

A stool for Jill , my cat… where she can look out of the one window… It let’s in enough light… and gives me a view of our front yard…

A bulletin board with stick pins (made by me)… holds a framed quilt piece that reads…

Families are like old quilts…

Although they tend to unravel at times…

Each can be stitched back together…

With Love!

This was given to me as a gift from my cousin…

I can hear my family near by… and I like that!

An extra chair in here also belongs to Jill… She has claimed it as hers to nap on…

along with her throw…

I upholstered the seat cushion in a red/black plaid ( can’t see in photo)

and made a little skirt for my computer table to match… to hide the hard drive and wires…

A closet holds things I have for the grandkids to play with… paper… boxes… crayons/paint/brushes… wrapping paper/ ribbons… It certainly could be organized better…

Family photos adorn one wall… making me smile every time I see them…

The wallpaper has the words “University of Louisville“ in red on a gray background…

so the decor has a Cardinal + theme…

Cardinal pictures I also made…

If you lived in Louisville… you would probably be either a Cardinal fan or a Kentucky Wildcat…

We’re partial to our Red Birds…

Although my favorite color is blue…

It’s a hodge podge of sentimental items… thrift store finds… necessities… family photos

“Cardinal” Crazy or Not?

Gift…

I have a little computer room decorated with “Louisville Cardinal“ wallpaper and a “few” decorative U of L items… No, I’m not one of the Cardinal’s crazy fans … I like them because they represent my city… Louisville, Kentucky … But, mainly I just love our state bird… the Cardinal! … I found the neatest little kerosene/oil lamp today in my rummaging at my favorite thrift store… It was 25% off today… Mondays… all the time… and Thursdays if you have your special “Unique” discount card which is free… This little lamp is 9″ tall… just right for my small black wrought iron shelf… and decorated with a Cardinal Bird of course… It was made in Japan …”It says so on the bottom!” …Brightly painted with the bird embossed on what looks like a wood stump… An amber-colored little glass chimney… Never has been used… and no chips or cracks… I feel as if I’m describing it to sell on EBAY …but, not at the moment… I think I’m keeping this little lamp for me and my “Cardinal” room for now… I did look up this little lamp on EBAY and found only one listed… It was with another one with a Blue Bird design making it a pair … Also the ones on EBAY have small shades on them… which matches the wood looking stump… Mine is missing the shade which would have been neat, but I still think mine is quite unique… If I hadn’t looked it up… I would have never known!… Just too nosey I guess! … I did find out that these quaint miniature lamps along with other ceramic pieces were made by the company of WALES in Japan … These stickers are rarely found on a piece… because they are so easily rubbed off… This company was trying its hand at lower cost imports… Back in the 1950’s they were not doing so well… but, later it seems we started buying these items and now think of them as quite special in their own right… At least, I like my “Cardinal Bird” lamp … even if it is not complete!
