After Christmas “FINDS”!

Cleaned out my pantry to start off my day…

Did I plan to???

NO, but, when it hits me… I do it!…

Why not!

and it feels so good to accomplish these things…

********************

Have you ever found Christmas remnants after Christmas…

These are the things I found yesterday around my house…

140102_001

A Santa hanging high… you have to know I’m kinda short!…

An Angel holding a kitty…

I like cats so much… maybe I didn’t really want to take it down…

A few ornaments in the bathroom… They matched so well… they just blended in

*******************

Do you after Christmas shop?

I like to… but, only a few oddities so far this year…

Unique Thrift shopping had me finding this cute older Santa Sleigh with Sweet Reindeer…

It requires batteries and when inserted later… it worked!…

The little reindeer move their legs and it plays various Christmas Songs…

I played it for the last time this morning as I will pack it away until next year… 140101_002

Another thrift find…

Snowman Candles… aren’t they the cutest!… Using them as my winter centerpiece on my kitchen table…140101_017 140101_019

Makes me smile!

A brand new Christmas Mug with a pretty ceramic topped spoon to match… These 50% off sales at a thrift store are the best finds… 140101_020 140101_021

A few boxes, wrapping paper, clings , pot holders, placemats… was fun to find too…

I’m a “think ahead” girl…

I will still be on the look out for more bargains… because like I’ve said before…

“The fun is in the hunt!”…

SOAPS: Pretty Enough to Eat!

I finally made some of the soaps I had planned on making for Christmas presents…

You know… those people you just need a little something for…

These would be more “ladylike”… but, I think I’ll experiment with some men fragrances soon…

I had a few forms which were in varied shapes… and then I experimented with a couple of things I had around the house…

Why not!

I had bought the one “JOY” Christmas form in a kit from the Thrift Store OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

https://babyjill7.wordpress.com/2013/10/17/easy-soap-making/

I then saw some cupcake / muffin silicon forms as well… and bought them…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Sprinkle natural ingredients in bottom… before pouring in soap…

Soap poured into forms…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I checked around my kitchen cabinets and found an E’clair Tin OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Oatmeal sprinkled in tin… Put in first… then pour in soap…

and a glass Candy Dish… OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

After I popped these out… I decided to cut them in half… Making more like little hand soaps…

After cooling… I stick in the refrigerator to speed up the time… just barely pry up on soap and  they pop right out… As I say to my Grandkids…”LIKE MAGIC!”…

They all worked… Of course I have my favorites…

Glycerine Squares come in a bag at Hobby Lobby“…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Melt soap squares on low heat in a saucepan… stirring occasionally…

Liquid Scents and Coloring too…

I chose Honey Almond and Plumeria some of my favorite scents… OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Add as much of the scent to please yourself…

Red, Blue and Yellow seemed like soap colorsOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Of course the more you use… the brighter the colors…

Just add a drop at a time and stir… until shade you desire…

You can add natural ingredients for exfoliating…or texture…

I used Oatmeal OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA …

Poppy Seeds  OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA …

and Dried Orange Rind OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA …

I’m just experimenting at this point… Will learn what works best as I continue to make them…

I love pretty soaps… and I know I can do anything if I try… So why not make my own!

It was fun and easy… OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

One of my favorites… The poppy seeds make the “JOY” really stand out!

The scents of “my soaps” ended up being called…

“Honey-Almond-Poppyseed”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“Orange-Honey-Almond”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“Oatmeal Plumeria”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Now to wrap them in a unique way… and make sure people know they are “SOAP”… not, something good to eat!

Unintended Uses…

I saw this unique 16 inch wire basket… at my favorite thrift store of course!

Cream colored… It was OK

But, I visualized it hanging on my wall in my Paris Bedroom k8281040which is black, gray and bright pink

I fell in love with the circular wires that formed the pattern…

But, what a waste to fill this beautiful design with fruit… or something else…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I bought a can of black spray paint…

Painted it on the front and backdrying each side until dry…

I got out my paints… knowing I had my bright pink paint… and my bottle of black and white would certainly make gray

I randomly painted some of the solid circular shapes the bright pink… and gray… leaving some of the black… OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I then decided a little flair was needed… but, not too much… It is representing “Paris!”…

So… a yard of black ribbon from my ribbon bag … bought  two yards of pink satin ribbon… and tied in a bow near bottom of basket ( now my beautiful wall hanging )…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I love the way it sticks out from the wall giving it some dimension!

I like using things in other ways than they were intended!

Something Old Becomes New!

I decorate my home usually from things I can redo…

I like it!

coming from necessity maybe… but, I tend to believe it’s just the artk8413105 in me…

I have slowly decorated my Paris” themedk15281802 bathroom and bedroom…

I am using black, gray and bright pink accents…

I think of things I would like to have and in my hunt… I usually find it!

I have an eye ebo1x014for the unusual and can visualize the finished product…

Sometimes people are quite amazed at my way of doing things… or what comes out of something I picked up at a thrift store Antiqu_Cor  Salesign

I just call it my hobby… my way of having fun… my peace

I had wanted a small sturdy chair black in color… but, could paint it if necessary… with a cushioned bottom

Sometimes my husband watches TV in our bedroom… and to have a place to sit besides the bed would be nice…

I found it yesterday… and it was already black…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Needed a slight sanding and a coat of black spray paint… that I already had… just to brighten it up…

The seat was padded but had an old (dirty) print that would NOT work…

I spotted material across the way… in the thrift store… about 30 feet away!…

I know what I like… and what will work…

I call it the “Magic” in me!

I had decided I would look in the material section… but, then my mind said…

“You could use anything that is big enough to cover the seat!”…

a blouse, a pillow case… a shirt…k2466734

and I immediately spotted it…

At this time I didn’t know what it was… but, found it to be a pillow sham… like brand new…

Black and white print… PERFECT!

It was mine!

The chair cost me $4.99 and the pillow sham $1.48…

It couldn’t have been better unless it had been 25% off day k1237647… which it wasn’t!

I brought it home… and immediately my husband sees what I see…

WE share like images in our minds!

I washed the chair good… after he removes the seat… just four screws…

I begin to check out the print of the pillow sham and center it on the seat… OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAcutting here and there k10696784

and without me knowing it… my husband has it sanded u18165107… just needed a little… and had sprayed it with my black paint k15376001

After drying… we attached the material I had cut from the sham… and stapledapl0022 it on…

Screwed on the seat… OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

and my chair was finished…

and we all loved it!

I couldn’t have been happier if I had went out and bought it at a furniture store for new!…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We will enjoy it even more probably… by sharing the work we put into it together!

Unique Thrift

Some of my unique finds from my favorite Thrift Store… which happens to be called “Unique Thrift”…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I couldn’t resist this clock… because of the pretty glass artwork… and it keeps time perfectly…

Now to find a unique spot for it…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

These cute Chicken Magnets made of painted wood with metal feet and wings…

aren’t they the cutest!

Of course they have found their “roosting place” on my fridge…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

If you look closely… you will see that these are candles

about 3″ l X 2 – 1/2″ h…

These four little birdies haven’t found their “nesting spot” yet… but, will soon…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Brand new flower pots… 7′ X 9″ and 6″ X 7″… Flat on the back… Great for outside on my deck… I can just see some hanging vines planted in them…We’ll see!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This little Rooster Vase made in Japan… sits in my windowsill of my kitchen… sometimes holding a cut flower from my yard…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Brand new Table Umbrella… 16 ft around by 8 ft…

so big and nice…

Loved the colorful birds and leaves…

for my new table on my deck…

Oh!… forgot… Table and chairs at son’s house… (graduation party)…

So… whenever they return I will have an umbrella for my table…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

and finally… Blue Jean look Pot Holders… complete with stitching and red/white check bandanas in pocket… patches… and fringed

Thought these might be a sewing pattern for me… for little gifts

Just too cute!

I’m always going to my favorite store… so you never know what I might find…

by the way… ALL of this for $20.00… Can’t beat it!

Photos of Today…

Today…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I had planted Poppys and Marigolds about a week ago… Do you see the little sprouts starting???

946505_10200248935005027_1218806216_n My Granddaughter, Kennedy broke her wrist and she finally had it cast today… It’s decorated with University of Louisville colors… black/red… her favorite team…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  I tried to capture the birds who have taken up residence in my little red birdhouse… for the past 3 years it has been occupied   every spring… but, they were just not having it!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  When I took a friend to pick up her prescriptions… she handed me these flowers (yes, they are real)…when she came out…

Just enough for my little vase… Aren’t they pretty sitting in between my funky little birds I bought on Easter clearance…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA I bought my “Lady”  statue from the thrift store many years ago… I thought she was lovely… She’s been sitting inside for a long time… so…

I thought she would look pretty outside in my flower bed… just sitting on her bench… enjoying the sunshine

I Used Paas Dye…

I picked up a package of Paas Easter Egg Dye … a little kit… at the thrift store the other day…

Why not!… it was marked $1.00 on the package as the original price and then the store had marked it to their price of 68 cents

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’ll take it!…

The thrift store has more bunnies… Easter decorations… grass and baskets… of every shape… and even clothes to dress up the little ones…

and they were quite busy!…

I bought a little bunny too… He’s sitting on my bathroom shelf

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I decided I could wait no longer to dye the eggs… so after making some sugar cookies

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My guys love their sweets…

I boiled about a dozen eggs

Just enough to say I did it and to get that urge out of my system…

There were 5 colored tablets in the kit… pink, blue, orange, green and yellow with a little wire egg holder…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

plus a few colorful cardboard egg holders and a matching game of Easter characters… I was feeling like a kid again…

Simple pleasures!…

I read where just vinegar and the tablets in a cup k0996563 would make the brightest colors… lemon juice would make medium colors… and water for pastels

I opted for the brightest… only using vinegar!… u17660117

They turned out quite bright and pretty… and I managed to keep my fingers pretty clean…

Not dyeing them too much!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I read about these Paas dyes… and a gentleman named William Townsley… who was a druggist… invented these special egg coloring dyes around 125+ years ago…

He renamed the company paas-logo after the Pennsylvania Dutch word Passen which was used for Easter

Quite interesting… that after 60+ years… I have learned that tidbit…

I hope you have dyed a few eggs… It is quite fun! cottonHeader2
