Love for Baby Jesus

When my oldest Granddaughter 487075_280642388714422_2000357850_n..

was about two years old…

Christmas had come and I put out the Nativity with Baby Jesus… Mary/Joseph… 3 Wise Men… Angel… Sheep… Cow… Donkey… Camel… Shepherds…

The figures were placed inside the Manger my friend’s Mom had given me…

My Granddaughter would walk up and look and look at it… and I would tell her all of the figures names…

She really liked Baby Jesusk3123947

and I would find Baby Jesus everywhere

In other rooms… on the couch… on the coffee table… in her toys…

As you can see by this grin… she was so sweet… and still is!

When I would ask her, “Where is Baby Jesus Taylor?”…

she always seemed to know…

We still have this set of figures…

They have been handled a lot… and are 44 years old this Christmas…

bought when my husband returned from Viet Nam and we had our first real Christmas together…

Today our little new one… “Kitty” decided our other Nativity was very pretty… or maybe she liked Baby Jesus k3123947like Taylor…

I found her laying right beside it… Staying there for quite awhile just looking at the Holy Family

I loved how she had laid her paws on it…

“A Tree of Memories”

Today’s the day… putting up the tree …oh, the memories come flooding in of past Christmases… and they all seem to involve the “tree”…We always had a real tree brought home by my Dad … then, it was up to my Mom with help from us kids to get a bucket, some rocks and a saw  …Why you ask?…The saw to trim it a little, there were no tree stands… you then put it in the bucket and straightened it with rocks, from our creek at that time… to brace it and get it as straight as possible… then into the house, the best side of tree facing forward and then adding water to the bucket to replenish the moisture that had been lost in route from the tree farm … The ornaments had been gotten out of the attic…a mixture of old and new …Some of them my Mom had bought while Daddy was in the NAVY and stationed at Treasure Island, California… She was back home in the country with her Mom and Dad until he returned… She had ordered some ornaments that glowed in the dark… no electricity… just the ornaments glowing on the tree  at night… She said, “My Dad just stood there and stared at that tree for hours”… He was in awe!… So of course these little white stars  , moons and other shapes were very special… Some had glitter and were so fragile  … some were newer and blue  … my favorite color… lots were homemade by us and loved each year like they were something we had never seen before … We had silver garland  …sometimes flattened from packing it away for several years… and of course silver tinsel to reflect the glow of the different colored lights that had to be checked all the time for a blown bulb … because at that time … if one went out… the whole string went out… Oh,what a bother!…Finally the Blue Star  that was placed on the top… and straightened to shine just right… Underneath was a paper nativity that I had put together from a kit… and then later replaced with real resin figures and a wood manger… a blue light pushed in from the back to shine on Baby Jesus … Our traditions of putting up the tree have not changed so much… The joy that makes your heart happy as you unpack the ornaments collected over the years…a pre-lit tree now… lights won’t go out if one bulb does  … Thank goodness!… the manger with Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, Shepherds, the Three Wise Men, a cow, a donkey and some sheep, and an angel placed under the tree  … A light illuminating what Christmas is all about… It’s time to feel this wonderful joy again… Our Savior has arrived!
