Write the blurb for the book jacket of the book you’d write, if only you had the time and inclination.

Photographers, artists, poets: show us BOOKS.

Book Title:

They Call Them Special! k0662770

I met these children quite by accident…

In a park… I was confronted with their curiosity and love…

and then was placed in the position of learning and teaching…

My choice?… Not quite… Art was my dream…

But, I learned there was Art in these “Special Kids” …

and they taught me as well!

Daily Prompt: Imitation/Flattery

Write a post in the style of (or simply inspired by) a favorite author.

Photographers, artists, poets: show us HOMAGE.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I love the word that is a synonym to homage “accolade” …

“respect shown”…

I talk of this all of the time…

That our children are growing up not knowing how to give homage or indeed… not even knowing what it is!…

Have they been neglected in obtaining this type of praise???

Maybe as adults we fail to teach this to our children…

We give them a lot of things!… but, do we show them and tell them how worthy they are???

If homage was given for the good, wonderful, unique, funny things they do…

maybe they would know how to accept accolades… and in return give them!…

Accolades…Homage… Just plain “respect” is what I call it!

Give it to your young ones

making them feel special…

letting them know they are worthy…

Respect (homage) begets respect (homage)…

Causing it to happen!

I use the plate in photo often… I want all to feel special and it’s my way of paying homage!

“My” Favorite Fathers…

I picked my “immediate” favorite Fathers…

We have so many in our BIG extended family

Daily Prompt: Goals

When you started your blog, did you set any goals? Have you achieved them? Have they changed at all?

………………………….

The following is what I wrote that first blog day ( 12-31-2010) …k2527826

These were my goalsk8525651

I achieved them… by writing about my “Special Kids” for a whole yeark0662770

I don’t know how many readx22042384how many learned anything… k13912041how many people even made comments at that time…k12892580

but, my goal was obtainedk13456422

I also had as a goal to make this year of writing… about  “my kids”… into a bookcfr0052

That I haven’t done… but, has not been forgotten vmo0481

k11920421

I have decided to start a blog… I am learning… but, have decided to try new things this year… I’ve always wanted to tell about my experiences while working with “Special Ed” children… I call them “my kids”… This experience began over 30 years ago… when my youngest son was just a baby… we were at a park with my two boys, my sister and her kids and my Mother… We often took a picnic lunch to the park to let the kids play… We took whatever we had in the house, which could be peanut butter and jelly or tuna fish sandwiches… Kool Aid a must!…  A  group of children under supervision of a young man and others were there also… As we were walking around… watching the kids play, a young boy approached us and started saying, “baby, baby”… He was reaching for “my baby” and got a hold of him and wouldn’t let go… My sister was getting excited and hollered for our Mother to help her… By this time a young man who I had seen with this group of children came running up and got the boy… giving us much relief… He said, “I’m sorry that the boy had grabbed the baby, but he meant no harm”… We found out that the children were “retarded”  children as we called them at that time… We left soon after… with a tale to tell my husband and others… I didn’t know that would be the beginning of my experiences with these “Special Kids”… I had a cousin with cerebral palsy… He was very smart, but lived in a twisted body with speech hardly recognizable… I liked him… but, didn’t really understand his health problems except through what I overheard from family… He had a great sense of humor and he loved my Dad… who would make special visits to see him even though it was some distance from our house… Dad was a joke teller and my cousin would get so tickled!…  I remember him using a typewriter… so I knew he had to be smart, just hard to get around and talk normal… Oh, how advanced he could have been if he had lived to use all the equipment that has been invented for people with his disabilities… I would say his disability was more physical and but as you will read later “mental” disabilities can be even harder…

My stories progressed after this… dealing with the issues I dealt with as a Teacher Assistant with these most Special Children“… k0662770“My Kids”…

Daily Prompt: Bedtime Stories

What was your favorite book as a child? Did it influence the person you are now?

I don’t know if I ever had the book…maybe aGolden Book as they call them…

header

My Mother would tell me stories all of the time… She amazed me with her memory… and she never seemed to tire of telling me stories… at bedtime… at nap time… when I didn’t feel well… just for fun!…

I listened with great attention to every word

One of my favorites was Peter Rabbit

9780307030719

… I later found that the author was Beatrix Potter… and that she was also a wonderful artist

Other characters illustrated by Beatrix Potter…

My Mom in telling her stories was very demonstrative… Meaning… that I could just picture the characters and places vividly with her voice and descriptions… She seemed to illustrate with her voice…

Peter_Rabbit_character_portraitPeter Rabbit…

Peter Rabbit was a little naughty… getting into Mr. McGregor’s garden… munching on his fresh carrots and lettuce… Wearing his little blue coat that his hard-working Mother had made him…

I liked that his Mother disciplined him, but also showed her love for him…

Maybe his Mother reminded me of mine… and yes… in its small way… influenced me…

Chorus I’m a pirate! That I be! I sail me ship upon the sea! I stay up late – till half past three! And that’s a peg below me knee!

**************************

“Pirate Talk”…

“Drivelswigger” – One who reads about nautical terms too much.

I always investigate things I’m writing about… so this could be me!

“Picaroon” – From the Spanish word for rascal, it was applied to a form of verse about pirates that was satirical or humorous.

As you know… anything concerning kids… would have humor in it…

“Cackle Fruit” – Chicken eggs…

I just had to mention this term… because my brother-in-law from Georgia used to call eggs …”cackle berries”

“Avast” – “Avast Ye!”  – From the Dutch term for ‘hold fast’ and means “Stop and pay attention.”

How many times do you think the teacher said this to this “crew”…

I told you I investigate too much on the subjects I write…

Bare with me and read this joke…ha-ha-ha-ha!…it’s that funny!

A pirate k2289460walked into a bar and the bartender said, ‘Hey, I haven’t seen you in a while. What happened? You look terrible.’

‘What do you mean?’ said the pirate, ‘I feel fine.’

Bartender, ‘What about the wooden leg? You didn’t have that before.’

Pirate, ‘Well, we were in a battle and I got hit with a cannon ball, but I’m fine now.’

Bartender, ‘Well, OK, but what about that hook? What happened to your hand?’

Pirate, ‘We were in another battle. I boarded a ship and got into a sword fight. My hand was cut off. I got fitted with a hook. I’m fine, really.’

‘ Bartender ‘What about that eye patch?’

Pirate, ‘Oh, one day we were at sea and a flock of birds flew over. I looked up and one of them pooped in my eye.’k2070810

‘You’re kidding,’ said the bartender, ‘you lost an eye just from bird poop.’

Pirate, ‘Well it was my first day with the hook.’

“Life In Motion”

Do you know people who just can’t wait? They can’t wait to grow up …they can’t wait to drive a car …they can’t wait to get out of school …they can’t wait to get married They can’t wait to have kids…They can’t wait to have a house …They can’t wait to see their children grown…They can’t wait until they retireWHOA!…I say…slow down!  You think you have a lifetime to do all you want to do…Well, a lifetime can be minutes , hours , days or just a few years…Yes, some will live to be very old with many years behind them…but, I ‘ll bet they will still say, “It was not long enough!”Some people have such wonderful goals that they set for themselves…and achieve it …Some have the goals and never obtain them …Some know exactly what profession they want …Some never know what they want to do …Some want families …Some love being on their own Some people work all their lives and some seem to play their lives away …I’ve seen some people with such talents…some using them to their full extent and others seeming to waste them…or don’t even think they have any…I see people ruin relationships …and others wanting to have someone to care for them…and never meeting  that special one…I see people with lots of money …yet, not happy …I see others that have nothing …and are rich beyond belief …What I am seeing…is “Life In Motion”  …Just don’t rush it…It moves away from us fast enough!

“My Kids!”

My kids felt the same emotions as all of us…Wanting things to move but, not as quickly as most … I never heard any of them really talking about marriage …living without Mom, Dad or brothers/sisters…having children of their own…Their futures were only a few years ahead at the most…mostly…cars , girlfriends/boyfriends , family, clothes , hairdos, games , food  and school…some talked of working…but, only a few…It seemed most of our kids lived just for the presentSchool…People were important… Some activities at school or birthday parties… The boys liked any kind of sports … and they did notice the girls…The girls were thinking of their hair, makeup, fingernail polish, books, drawing, movies, pets and occasionally a cute boy … I liked what I saw in our kids… Their lives were in motion but, they were waiting for things … moving a little slower  …they seemed to want to enjoy each moment!
