Christmas Gift Giving…

I’ve started stashing a few presents for Christmas… I have to buy a few things at a time… with our money coming in on certain days… u13311684

YOU know what I mean!…

and the every day bills are still there… and food needs to be bought sfo0814… and gas for the car…

We do draw names with the adults in our immediate little family… consisting of 7 of us…

I suggested it last year and everyone jumped at the ideak15480118 … and we are continuing this tradition… Thank Goodness!…

I have three Grandkids… and have a budget ( certain amount I spend ) for their gifts too…k4399683

They like gifts… ( wrapped presents ) x18728389and maybe a gift card… to a favorite storek4809558

and it makes me so happy buying something I feel they will really use or enjoy…

I give this great thought…

My husband , my son who lives with us and myself… fill each other’s Christmas Stocking including our cat, Jill’s…

We are not allowed to peek until Christmas Eve night when everyone has left for the night…

My niece gave my son “A Christmas Story” stocking last year for fun… since she knows that’s one of his favorite Christmas Movies…A-Christmas-Story-30

Mine is a quilted one…

My husband’s is the Santa and Jill has a kitty on hers… which is only appropriate for a cat!

Our own private little celebration…

Our own little tradition!…

And we are so surprised at our own ingenuity in finding items that fit into the area of a sock u17965586and are items that each will enjoy!

We do good!

Other than these few gifts… I draw names with my BUNCO group… and we exchange when we go out to eat to a favorite restaurant…k13712070

When we go to my niece’s house for a pre-Christmas get-together… Women bring a $10.00 lady gift… and the men bring a $10.00 man gift… ( if you want to participate… which is optional ) and then a game is played where everyone ends up with something…sma0111

Fun and not expensive

The men seem to have more fun than the ladies… passing a certain present from one to another… like it’s worth more than the $10.00 paid!…

The children here… also draw names… with each other… and they are all satisfied… u23842863

I feel we have become smarter in our thinking on this gift giving idea…

Less stress…

Less a financial burden…

and we have learned that just being togethermardep0013s

enjoying good food prepared by all  x10497109

is the best Christmas Present we could ever have!

Bells of Christmas…

When I go to sign my Christmas Cards IS431-094 … I sometimes wonder what to write…

Of course “LOVE”  is always good k11475327 … but, maybe not for just an acquaintance… or a co-worker…

Merry Christmas??? k7942552

and a Happy New Year!???k10911768

These are a few but, I also found these “closings”…that were just a little “more”… and I liked that!…

I made my own “Cards “… to hand out to the members of a group I belong to… It was our Christmas Get-together…

I found pretty Silver Bells“… and attached them to my letter (card)… I had chosen the Christmas Poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow as follows:

This poem was written on December 25th 1864 during the American Civil War by one of America’s greatest writers, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The references to this war were removed when the poem was rearranged and set to music by John Baptiste Calkin in 1872.

‘Christmas Bells’

I heard the bells k10791590on Christmas Day

Their old, familiar carols play,

And wild and sweet

The words repeat

Of peace on Earth , good-will to men!

And thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along
The unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Till, ringing k10791590, singing on its way
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime,
A chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Then from each black, accursed mouth
The cannon thundered in the South,
And with the sound
The Carols drowned
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

And in despair I bowed my head;
‘There is no peace on earth,’ I said;
‘For hate is strong,
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!’

Then pealed the bells k10791590more loud and deep:
‘God is not dead; nor doth he sleep!
The Wrong shall fail,
The Right prevail,

With peace on Earth, good-will to men!

My “closing” was…

Wishing you a joyous Christmas!

May the “Bells of Christmas” ring out for you!

Postal Gifts…

Christmas k10774444seems to actually arrive when I get my first Christmas card k10234922 … One from my friend Dorothy…  is the first I receive usually… followed not too far behind by my cousin, Vera… and then they slowly arrive… one or two at a time… almost every day…

I so look forward to going to the mailbox and seeing if there are any cards along with all of the advertisements…

I really thought I might not receive any this year… with the economy being so bad… People having to cut corners wherever possible…

I look at giving Christmas cards as a small gift to the person I send it to… It might be all of the communication we have during the Holiday Season… Some living far away… and others unable to get together…

A First Class stamp cost 45 cents… not so much for a gift if you look at it like that…

And if you can find Post Cards with a Christmas theme they will only cost 32 cents…

There’s just something special when you open that envelope… with your name addressed on it… and a sneak preview of who it is from if there is a return address

Some of the designs of the Holiday Stamps are quite pretty… and refer to different faithsSome even collect them…     untitledPhilatelic Product ImagePhilatelic Product Image

The cards themselves are works of art… which I truly appreciate… The colors… the theme… the sparkles…  Just beautiful!…

There have been surveys… and all have said that people prefer getting a real stamped and mailed Christmas card over an emailed one… Does that not say something???

My brother made my Mom a handcrafted wood box depicting The Little Drummer Boy“… It was for her to put her Christmas cards in… He self-taught himself to paint and do wood working… Very impressive I think…

Both my Mom and Brother have passed away… but, “The Little Drummer Boy” brings them closer to me at this time of year… as I set it out in my house and place the little gifts of cards I receive from friends and relatives

A “Doctor” That Still Makes House Calls!

I had to go get the Doctor today… I had waited until I couldn’t stand it any longer… It was evident it was in need

It was calling out in pain

Had actually started smelling pretty bad

Had many different colors in different stages of sickness

I had heard I could find the Doctor at several clinics near by

That’s what I needed… a quick trip to save its life

The first clinic said, “Sorry… the Doctor is out and I don’t know when he will return”…

So off to the next one… It had to be today… It was in too much pain to wait another day!

I was so happy to find the Doctor in at our next place of business… Actually they had two Doctors… and proceeded to tell me how each worked…What a good job each one did…

It was in such need… and I knew I had to be able to carry the Doctor in my car and get him into my house…

Yes, this Doctor does house calls

He’s upright… doesn’t cost too much for his services … and offers several products…  just use what you like… He really doesn’t care… He stands by his work… Guaranteed to give you his best

All you have to do is…

Have some energy

Read directions

Know how and what he likes to eat

Provide power Push the right buttons

and hope he stands by his work…

Actually YOU are the main ingredient in this Doctoring process…

You are the one who is going to push… pull… fill and unload

You are the operator

I’m talking about the “Rug Doctor”… That machine that has come to my rescue many times over the years… Actually it has come to mycarpet‘s ” rescue… Summer traffic had done a number on it… Grease. grime, food stains and plain old dirt!

It’s the Holiday Season and I wanted my carpet clean before I put up my tree or decorate

The Rug Doctor does a great job!… It’s easy to use…

It uses a liquid concentrated detergent for carpets… or you can use any type of cleaner you prefer… You fill with water and soap solution in the bottom container… Then a top container collects all of the dirty water extracted from the carpet with the vacuum part … Empty dirty water when full… and repeat process…

It just takes some muscle… Not for the faint at heart…  But, taking your time and taking a break every now and then… It does a very good job!…

It rents for a mere $26.00 and I got a rebate  for $7.00… which I will mail tomorrow…

I have 24 hours before I have to return it…

I felt it was a great deal… and am very pleased with the job it did…

The only drawback I can see so far… is how I will feel tomorrow… maybe a little sore… maybe a little tired … but, now my Christmas Tree can go up and company is welcome …

Thanks Mr. Rug Doctor… for your house call!

“Believing ” … Is So Important!”

What a wonderful time Christmas  should be… but, it’s getting harder and harder to feel the joy anymore… I try so hard…by baking …by finding small gifts to give… wrapping everything in pretty paper and ribbons… decorating a tree… decorating inside the house and out a little…but, I still feel quite empty at times… Everywhere you look there are festivities going on… movies, parties , shopping , cooking, TV ads, store ads …I think I know what it is that makes me feel blue … it’s knowing that so many families are in need … not just for Christmas presents, but food, utility and house payments , gasoline for the car … I see the pain in so many people’s eyes… wondering… What is going to happen to them and their families Where are they going to be living next year when they might lose their home Where will they turn to get help with the necessities to keep surviving every day… What will happen if they become ill… If they haven’t already lost their job… will they have one next year … And if they are working, will it be enough to meet their families needs… I didn’t say “wants” … just needs Who actually cares about them?… Who really understands their situation?… Clearly the world is in a bad way… and I have found personally, that the only thing that keeps me motivated, keeps me having hope, keeps me focused … is the love of those who share a kind word, a helping hand , a “pep me up” talk, a home cooked meal, a hug and a kiss , a promise that all will turn out OK!… And then it’s my turn to react… by having faith in others… having faith in our country … having faith in my families love… having faith that tomorrow is a new day with new dreams and mainly having  faith in the One who saved me… showing me what Believing is all about… And with that comes the   to endure, the strength to know there will be better days!

God Bless All This Christmas Season!
