Christmas Wreath Redo…

Gift…

As PILLOW A LA-MODE … a fellow blogger was saying…”I use some of my Christmas Decorations in another way for winter… without removing them… just changing them a bit!”

I do the same thing

My Christmas Wreath on the front door was lighted with just a red bow to match the window wreaths I had on the front of the house…

All have been taken down…but, I left the door wreath k11084123… and removed the bigger bow that says, “CHRISTMAS!”… just by looking at it…

Today I had my two youngest Grandkids… and Carson decided to help me with an update on the wreath… a new look…

I decided Snowmen would work great for the winter monthsk6349691

I wasn’t going to buy another thing…

I was going to find and use what I had around the house…

I remembered I had Christmas Cards left over… Surely a few Snowmen would be in them… and YES there was!…

I cut them out… deciding to just use the same design on the wreath… I had four cards… just enough!… They are so cute!…

Then of course some cut out snowflakes would be a neat addition…

(That made Kennedy want to try her hand of making some later)…

So I folded paper and whatever came out that resembled a snowflake was used…

Some leftover white and red ribbon…  for a bow

My helper was there to unfold… cut… give suggestions… and approve of what I did…

Postal Gifts…

Christmas k10774444seems to actually arrive when I get my first Christmas card k10234922 … One from my friend Dorothy…  is the first I receive usually… followed not too far behind by my cousin, Vera… and then they slowly arrive… one or two at a time… almost every day…

I so look forward to going to the mailbox and seeing if there are any cards along with all of the advertisements…

I really thought I might not receive any this year… with the economy being so bad… People having to cut corners wherever possible…

I look at giving Christmas cards as a small gift to the person I send it to… It might be all of the communication we have during the Holiday Season… Some living far away… and others unable to get together…

A First Class stamp cost 45 cents… not so much for a gift if you look at it like that…

And if you can find Post Cards with a Christmas theme they will only cost 32 cents…

There’s just something special when you open that envelope… with your name addressed on it… and a sneak preview of who it is from if there is a return address

Some of the designs of the Holiday Stamps are quite pretty… and refer to different faithsSome even collect them…     untitledPhilatelic Product ImagePhilatelic Product Image

The cards themselves are works of art… which I truly appreciate… The colors… the theme… the sparkles…  Just beautiful!…

There have been surveys… and all have said that people prefer getting a real stamped and mailed Christmas card over an emailed one… Does that not say something???

My brother made my Mom a handcrafted wood box depicting The Little Drummer Boy“… It was for her to put her Christmas cards in… He self-taught himself to paint and do wood working… Very impressive I think…

Both my Mom and Brother have passed away… but, “The Little Drummer Boy” brings them closer to me at this time of year… as I set it out in my house and place the little gifts of cards I receive from friends and relatives

To “Christmas Card” or Not?”

My next agenda for Christmas is, “Do I send Christmas cards or not?”… I just love receiving them!… and I have always felt cards were like little gifts… some old-fashioned , some religious , some funny , some modern …something for someone I don’t see often…or who lives far away… A stamp cost less than a $1.00… 44 cents to be exact here in the USA… So where could you buy anything better… a special note from or to someone… or just a pretty card  ... At the beginning of sending letters or cards anyone could send you something and then you as the receiver had to decide to pay for it or not… Then in 1840 the Penny Black stamp came into existence and the sender had to pay the postage… The cost was five cents with a picture of Queen Victoria  and was British made… In 1847 Ben Franklin‘s portrait  was put on a five cent stamp and George Washington  on the ten-cent…  In 1856 Thomas Jefferson  was added and in 1863 Andrew Jackson … Of course since then many stamp postage rates have come about along with many different subjects and faces… One of the best-selling Commemorative Stamps that was made in 1993 was of the young Elvis Presley … So now I will make my list of my card recipients… Some will be hand delivered and others will be delivered by thePony Express” Oh,no!… I’m not that old!… I’ll place them in the mailbox in front of my house and raise the flag … so the postman knows I have something for him to pick up… As I write this… it sounds pretty primitive, doesn’t it?… but, I like it just the way it is… Someday I’m sure email… Texting… Facebook… phones of all sorts will take the place of this simple way of giving a small gift… so why not enjoy it while you can!… Now… which Christmas Stamp will I choose for my gifts… maybe…

because these are the choices this year… I choose… … Which one would you have chosen?
