Veteran : Delay, Deny and Die

It’s a very sunny… COLD… day…

Snow in Tennessee where my cousin lives… Go figure!…

I’ve straightened up the house… Cleaning my kitchen / living room floors was my biggest ambition today…

A day by ourselves…

Son visiting for the next few days after going out to have pizza with my little family

Love it when they initiate a get together

Bobby doing well with his 3rd new Chemo treatment…

A rash which was expected…(side-effect)…

but, he is a trooper…

I have to relate here…

that we are not perfect…

we have our days that sink us to the bottom of the well…

We stay afloat most of the time…

treading the water with each other as God’s hands act like life jackets for us…

We put on a smile…

laugh when appropriate…

say, “all is well”…

Bobby has severe neuropathy from diabetes and chemo meds…

Explained to us…

that with him having diabetes they hesitated to give certain chemo meds… because of theses side-effects…

but, DID!… a chance to live longer…

since they said this about his diabetes being the culprit

and he having this service connected

we applied for further compensation for the neuropathy…

after 6 months of waiting

Even having Senator Rand Paul’s VA representative helping us…

He was denied!…

stating chemo drug caused itNOT service connected…

This is how the VA works…

what’s related in their eyes…

not what the Veteran is dealing with…

I sometimes feel they think we are quite stupid…

and can treat the Veteran any which way they want… and do…

Mainly the “waiting game”…

If they had seen him and diagnosed him early… which they could have!… we would not be dealing with this …

Took 4 visits to Emergency Room at VA hospital… numerous phone calls to VA Clinic he was going to…

and then a mild heart attack got their attention!…

and although heart has been related to service connected disease already on his record… they say, “since you are better… no compensation for that either!”…

I see and hear others being given 100% disability compensation for little or nothing… and then my husband and others who have definite issuesbeing turned down

He sometimes wishes he had been an alcoholic… drug addicted… mentally impaired… and then maybe he would be heard…

Of course we are not like that!…

we do what is legal and right

and so “the good guy… is tossed by the wayside”…

His colon cancer is not covered either…

although prostrate and other cancer are…

They even say, “that they believe it will be covered later”…

as we see so many of the VETS at the hospital with this problem…

There are many stories of this kind we have heard…

and yet, no action can be taken…

no one REALLY listens…

Hopefully with new administration policies concerning the VA Department and treatment of Veterans will succeed in making changes…

but, we know… “our time is up!”…

they have the expression…”Veterans”…

“‘Delay, Deny and Hope that I Die,'”

So true!

“GOOD NEWS”

This was the coldest morning we have had this year…

single digits and below freezing all day…k16234683

Bobby and I awoke early to the alarm I set last night…

Setting the alarm is rare anymore…

Only when I HAVE to get up early!…k7490433

Bobby and I were due at the VA hospital to hear the results of his scan after receiving all of his Chemo treatments…

Although clear a little over half way when tested… my stomach and nerves were giving me a funny feeling…k3013980

They checked his blood pressure and then we waited…

I have mentioned before… the waiting game is played at the VA Hospital all of the time!…

Robyn… his oncologist Doctor was ready to see him…

asking how he was feeling as we walked into the room…

She got right at it…

They had seen no signs of cancer!…

We were ever so happy!…

Robyn loves her job!…k3626657

with this being the best part… telling good news…

We listened as she talked about cancer and all of its forms…

the treatments of past times… and the new discoveries every day…

Her eyes lit up as this is her passion!…

Caring and helping people with this dreadful disease…k22588353

The main things we learned with our experience…

is…

Early detection!…

Looking for signs in your every day happenings with your body…

Any abnormal changes…

We left saying good-bye and giving hugs… to several of the nurses… and office personnel…

We feel so blessed with our Good News…k11232926

Bobby will have to have colonoscopy yearly… and scans twice a year…k24014363

The magic number seems to be 5 years… when the ugly cancer word has not come back…

We are going to live again as normal as possible… enjoy life as much as we can…

We met Doug for a late breakfast and enjoyed the afternoon with him…k19794573

He is doing so well!… another blessing!…k6953904

So many have prayed for our little family this past year…

I don’t take that lightly!… You have made us feel so loved… and filled our hearts with gratefulness…

k32810738

Thank you!
