Weekly Photo Challenge: The Hue of You

I love neutral colors… beiges…tans…grays…creams…rustic…black/white photos…

with just a splash of color every now and then that just POPS!

Maybe I’m plain…maybe I’m blah… but, just maybe…

I’m at peace with myself!

Black/White Photos of Granddaughter and my Dad and Brother…

Granddaughter in a Champagne Colored Dress… couldn’t be more beautiful in my eyes!

Tree Bark with just that splash of color!

My lady statue… all in cream… so pretty… with details… doesn’t need anything else…

The different hues of Fall Leaves… makes me feel at peace…

Nature in her natural beauty…

The rustic bell makes me happy!

The wild toadstools (mushrooms) are so naturally pretty…

The rustic browns in the bricks laid in a semi circle step …

The worn brown color of my glider… just draws me to it…

The natural browns in my centerpiece… with a splash of greenish yellow… I just like!

An Iris of light golds… cream… browns… What could be prettier…

An older brown / white photo of my Dad when he was a young baseball player…

Just love it!

The gray / brown feather of a bird… left when eating from the birdfeeder…

My pale green / brown worn painted swing… gives me rest …

The sun faded fence with the neighbor’s dog peeking through…

makes me smile…

The tans… grays… creams in my bathroom wallpaper with just a “pop” of color…

I won’t tire of it soon…

Unintended Uses…

I saw this unique 16 inch wire basket… at my favorite thrift store of course!

Cream colored… It was OK…

But, I visualized it hanging on my wall in my Paris Bedroom which is black, gray and bright pink…

I fell in love with the circular wires that formed the pattern…

But, what a waste to fill this beautiful design with fruit… or something else…

I bought a can of black spray paint…

Painted it on the front and back… drying each side until dry…

I got out my paints… knowing I had my bright pink paint… and my bottle of black and white would certainly make gray…

I randomly painted some of the solid circular shapes the bright pink… and gray… leaving some of the black…

I then decided a little flair was needed… but, not too much… It is representing “Paris!”…

So… a yard of black ribbon from my ribbon bag … bought  two yards of pink satin ribbon… and tied in a bow near bottom of basket ( now my beautiful wall hanging )…

 

I love the way it sticks out from the wall giving it some dimension!

I like using things in other ways than they were intended!

Sunday Gratefuls- June 30, 2013

Blue is my favorite color… Has been since I was a little girl…

Not that I don’t like other colors…

but, blue makes me calm…

makes me content…

makes me comfortable…

makes me happy…

and looking upward at blue skies makes me smile…

These are the Blue Skies of Kentucky taken Saturday…

I couldn’t keep from looking up at them…

and as you probably know… known for and called the “bluegrass” State…

I found the answer to the question…

WHY??? is the sky blue?

The sun’s rays hit the Earth’s atmosphere, where the
light is scattered by nitrogen and oxygen molecules in the air. The blue
wavelength of this light is affected more than the red and green wavelengths,
causing the surrounding air to appear blue.

Art has been a part of my life forever…

My coloring books  when I was young were my best friends… and don’t touch my crayons…

They were almost sacred to me…

It seemed when someone used them… they always ended up broken…

I really hated to have anyone else color in my books… but, I did… to be nice…

I remember coloring the girls in my books with blue hair… my favorite color…

I just said recently, “I must have foreseen the future of dyeing hair!”…

  

I later started drawing… then painting … crafting and decorating…

I still get excited with color… textures… unique art work…

Something that speaks to me…

New paint… brushes… materials… draw me to them all of the time…

That section of the store is so me!…

I thought I would share some of the art in my house… not, expensive art… just things that make me happy…

This rustic blue chair… loved its color and story of being there now… just to hold flowers… not sturdy enough to hold a person any longer…

My blue again… Blackberry Pickers… Family… Children… out on a summer’s day…

Kind of a retro look… of kitchen items… and my color blue…

says to me… come and sit a spell…

I painted this one… Have just now started hanging some of my paintings…

The pear and colors match my Wallpaper Border in my kitchen…

 

These are a few of the Cardinal Birds I framed… for my computer room… Louisville Cardinals and Kentucky’s State Bird… Just funky and cheerful… for a place I use a lot!

Loved the bright pink and black accents for my Paris Themed Bathroom…

Metal Wall Hanging… Paris theme… Just too cute!

I painted this little Parisian Artist… design taken from wallpaper…

I liked the simple lines of this Painting I did…

I even hung it… in my hallway…

 

The colors grabbed me for my spare bedroom… Lavender and green…

Peaceful… relaxing… but, cheerful too…

The metal sculpted Iris was so unique and seemed to go with this picture…

I love kitties… so this was MINE!… and went with my  feminine theme in my spare bedroom too…

Another painting I did… trying to tie in all of the bright colors I had chosen for my bigger bathroom…

pink/peach/salmon/orange/yellow/red/teal blue…

Flower plate that I just had to have… matches my ideas for my brightly flowered bathroom…

As you can see… I surround myself with color/art…

Painting for Fun!

Last Thursday Night my daughter-in-law and I went to a painting class…

Painting classes have become very popular in Louisville in the last year…

Some classes are held in restaurants… some at their own business sites…

They might serve wine… cheeses/fruit… crackers…

maybe cupcakes for kids…

I’ve been to three…. so far…

I love to paint!… but, having never had professional training…  I dare not say that I’m a true painter…

I have painted murals on walls at several schools… wall murals in people’s homes… and just for my own pleasure… to sell at craft bazaars…

I guess you can say I’m self-taught… and have God-given talent…

Some find my work quite good…

This painting class was not far from where I live…

Koch’s …

They do framing … display and sell art of different artists… and have painting classes for all ages… Parties may be on their agenda as well as the pre-set classes for any age…

They were painting an interpretation of the Louisville skyline for a booth they were setting up for a fair… “Louisville Independent Business Alliance” …when we were there…

Painting still wet …

Painting at the fair with our Louisville Mayor… that weekend…

There are many designs to choose from on their monthly calendar…

My daughter-in-law chose the artwork we were to paint… I wanted to treat her… since she was excited about the fact that she would be painting something she could actually hang in her new home…

It was called “Magical Tree”… I called it “whimsical”… and it was fun to do…

You could follow along and do just as taught… or change it up a bit to make it your own…

Melanie chose bright colors… so fun!…

and I went with a more subdued coloring to fit with my decor…

This photo was posted on their Facebook Page… how neat!

The swirly lines for tree branches were so fun to make…

and leaves were just depicted by dots…

Melanie has already hung hers and mine is still sitting there… waiting for me to decide on an appropriate place… or I might even give as a gift …

I am going to another class next Wednesday… with a friend from the YMCA… She chose the subject also… as this was new to her…

Looks like fun to me!

Some day I will pick a subject… but, for now… I’m enjoying seeing my friends paint who never thought they could…

I knew they would love it!…

I hope fine… because we are going to have fun in the next 5 minutes…

I’ve given you a piece of white paper…

Now choose your favorite color plus five more out of the crayons in front of you…

You need to hurry… because we just have 4 more minutes…

Draw your favorite shape as big as you want…

I’m putting them up here on the board where you can see them… I know you are just learning… and some of these are new to you…

The shape you draw may be a circle… square… rectangle

… triangle … oval … diamond… star… trapezoid… hexagon …

Now add another shape anywhere you want… But, it has to be different…

Are you using all of the colors you chose?…

Add another shape… Why not connect this one to one of the shapes you have already drawn…

Another shape please

… add another one…

I don’t care which one…

Color in a few of the shapes quickly…

We are down to 3 minutes…

The last 3 shapes you haven’t added are next…

Did you make something you know?…

or did you just make a design?…

Finish adding whatever you want in the last minute…

with any of the colors you chose…

No WINE!… I’ll paint anyway!

I posted on a painting I did with others at

…

I went to another class with “Wine and Canvas” last night…

Doesn’t compare… sorry to say…

The people were very nice… no problem there..

The surroundings were OK…

It was held at Mimi’s Cafe here in Louisville…

This group holds classes at different restaurants in the area… on different dates…

Faults I found…

Crowded…

No wine or snacks as their name indicates…BUMMER!… you could order and pay for your own…

They didn’t provide all colors of paint… Only the colors of the painting that the instructor had chosen…

I came to paint an Eiffel Tower for my bathroom…pinks…gray…black…

No red…or pink to be had… Only black, blue, green, white and yellow…

See why I was disappointed??? …Both my friend and I needed the pink or at least some red/white to make our own pink… to finish our painting…

So… I finished it at home this morning… and she is doing the same…

As I said …It’s a great idea… and holding it at restaurants is OK too… but, not what I expected!…

I love to paint and being with my friend I used to work with was great!…

I also had gotten a coupon off of the internet for 1/2 off … So instead of $70 for the two of us… it was $35 for us… and sharing that… made it $17.50 each…

That should have nothing to do with the wrongs I found… They had done the advertising and deal…

So… it helps to check out these things…

Finished work… If I had some pink I could have been finished too…

Young girl named Beverly sat next to me… I thought she did a great job!

We had a great time anyway… Nothing can keep us from that!

We had to turn our paintings upside-down to paint bottom edge…

I left with just black…gray…white…

It now sparkles with bright pink lights… Much better!

The “VISUAL” Gift…

“Gift”…

I’m definitely a visual person… seeing would be a sense I would hate to live without…

All senses are just as important…

but, to not be able to see the sun come up  … the green of the grass … the blue of the sky with the white clouds  drifting by… would devastate me…

  

The smiles on faces … the colors of our world  …

Maybe it’s because of the “art” in me…

Color has always played such an important part in my life… The blending… the hues… the brightness… the darks (cools)… the lights (warms) … the softness…

I paint … I sew  … I decorate… I  match clothes… I plant flowers … I bake … I choose colors in buying a car… furniture… decorative items…

It’s important to me!…

The beauty that  is front of us…

Even the most ugly of things… I can see the good and beauty of them…

Be it an object or human…

I’ve been said to have an “eye”  to put things together…

If I do… it is a blessing from God…

I’ve had no training…

I just seem to see things in a magical way  …

I’ve known of this talent since I was quite young …

My coloring in books…

My drawings…

The love of pencils… papers…textures… paints… crayons…

Anything!… that could achieve some kind of visual stimulus  for others to view…

I feel so fortunate to have this wonderful gift… 

It gives me pleasure…

It brings me happiness…

It gives others something pleasing to look at…

It keeps my mind busy in thinking of new projects… ideas abound! …

New things to make with my hands…

This “visual” concept helped with my chosen… given… field of work that I did most of my life…

Using it to benefit the special kids …I worked with… and now my own Grandkids…

I truly hope that I will pass this “visual” gift onto someone else…

“Don’t Just Be Anther Crayon in the Box”…

While walking in a toy store the day before today, I overheard a Crayon Box with many things to say.

“I don’t like red !” said Yellow … And Green said, “Nor do I! And no one here likes Orange , But no one knows quite why.”

“We are a box of crayons  that really don’t get along,” … said Blue to all the others. “Something here is wrong!”

Well, I bought that box of crayons and took it home with me and laid out all the crayons  so the crayons could all see…

They watched me as I colored with Red and Blue and Green … And Black and White and Orange and every color in between

They watched as Green became the grass and Blue became the sky … The Yellow sun was shining bright on White clouds drifting… by.

Colors changing as they touched… becoming something new. ..They watched me as I colored …They watched till I was through…

And when I’d finally finished… I began to walk away… And as I did the Crayon box  had something more to say…

“I do like Red !” said the Yellow and Green said, “So do I!…  and Blue , you are terrific!…  So high up in the sky.”

We are a Box of Crayons … each of us unique, but when we get together the picture is complete…

Procrastination… An Artsy Thing???

Have you ever had a hard time getting started on a project?… even if it’s something you really like to do?… I have been asked to paint a chair for my son and his wife… It’s an Adirondack chair in shape… but, not wood like the older ones  … this one is a brightly colored plastic type… blue in color…

I’m not just going to paint it… I’m going to paint a beach scene  on it… The ocean… a sandy beach… palm trees … maybe a hammock  … a parrot   for sure … and a sign depicting “Margaritaville”

… They want it to be fun… to sit by there pool… I have a few ideas… but, getting started is sometimes the hardest part… and then I get so involved I can’t stop until I’ve finished it completely… It’s all or nothing!… I went through all of my paints … to check what colors I have and what I will need… I might not even have to buy any…I had more than I thought

… A few new brushes might be good though… I let my Grandkids paint every time they come over… Something they love to do… So at times my brushes don’t get cleaned out as good as they should

  

… That’s OK… because the enjoyment they have is worth it… and I love to see their creativity  … I believe they might take after their Grandma… Isn’t that neat!… Oh, well… enough procrastination! … I think I’ll get the scene sketched out on the chair… and then I’ll have more incentive to paint this project… It will be fun!… I just needed a little pep talk to myself to get me started… Thanks for listening!

PS…Do you think that we all have a little trouble with the time being just right to begin an art project… Is it an artsy thing?… I always seem to say,

“I have to be in the right mood!”

… Just wondering what you might think…
