Easy Soap Making

On one of my trips to my favorite Unique Thrift Store… I found this little Soap Making Kit … Made by Delta… and called Soap Creations…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This one happened to be an Evergreen Scent in a pretty green color and the mold said “JOY”…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It was supposed to make two bars

Soap included… scented already… mold…

What did I have to lose…

I might even be able to make a few Christmas Gifts from it… and Homemade too!

You cut the bar of soap into pieces and microwave in a microwave safe dish… I used a clear glass…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Only for about 15 seconds

It melts quickly…

You then let cool a few seconds and push back the film that occurs…

pour into mold… and cool…

I put it in the refrigerator to hurry up the process… which it says you can…

I made a bigger bar evidently… more than I was supposed to… so I got out my leaf candy mold and made 3 little guest soaps…

They turned out quite well… OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Popped right out after cooling… OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I have read how to make glycerin soaps… and now that I have a few molds I think I will give it a try…http://www.marthastewart.com/

I also found my “turkey” candy molds (Thanksgiving) and “hearts” (work anytime) … that would be good… for the seasons coming up…

I have some “bunnies” and “Easter Eggs”… but, will wait for Easter to use them…

This was fun!

Weekly Photo Challenge: LOVE!

Gift… Memory

Hearts have always reminded of me of Love for all of the obvious reasons… So I thought I would see how many Hearts (signs of love) I could find in my house…

A Valentine Candle I found at my favorite Thrift Store… When you burn it… you find little treasures… like:

* gold-plated or sterling silver charms and pins…

*pewter figurines…

*semi precious stones

It’s so pretty I hate to burn it… so I may never find out what’s inside!

This “Casino Cash” jar was given to me by a little aide that was in the classroom I was in during my last year with my Special Ed students… She did sign language with our hearing impaired student… She knew my husband and I enjoy playing penny slots… I still use it for our loose change

and Window Clings for Valentine’s Day… which I think is such a fun way to decorate for the Holidays…

What better way to show love…than through our hearts…

Bracelet Purses…Enough to Share!

I was going to make more… but, time has run out… I did manage to sew together 5 of these cute Bracelet Purses that I read about on “The Mother Huddle”… I believe my Granddaughter Kennedy will like them…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I actually made 10 purses… because they are all reversible… Isn’t that nifty!… and the Bracelet Handles slip right onto your wrist… Great for going shopping… but, big enough to hold money… lipstick/gloss.. keys…(no, she’s way too young to drive)…House key!… and a few other things a girl has to have…CELL PHONE!…

The Mother Huddle has the full tutorial on how to make them… It does help to have some sewing experience… But, really quick and easy

I used materials I had left from making doll clothes a couple of years ago… My girl is growing up way too fast… Us Grandma’s like them to stay small and cuddly longer than they want… So instead of dolls … we are wanting to shop look at the boys… have the latest shoes and fashion… and texting/calling their BFF’S all of the time…

The Black/Leopard is probably my favorite… but, then I’m older… They all will coordinate with her many outfits… and maybe… if she really likes them… I’ll finish the others I have cut out…

Rosy Pink with Small Print in Rosy Pink/Blue on reverse…

Fleece Leopard Print with Beige on reverse…

That would make her 6 more …

I thought Kennedy might also like to share one with her Best Friend

It would be fine with me!

“Lil’ Biscuits” for Everyone!

The Loveless Cafe‘ used to have an adjoining motel After years of being in business they turned the motel part into mini stores and craft shops… So as we waited for our buzzer to go off… telling us our table was ready… we wandered around the shops…

“Lil’ Biscuits” was the name of the first shop…

They had cute baby outfits… toys… and items for your favorite pet… The young cashier girl was so sweet and asked if I would like her picture… I had told her I wrote a blog and would like to take a few photos if it was alright… They had an area for kids to color pictures with crayons… and a few were loving it!

Our next stop was…

A small shop packed with unique artPaintings, jewelery, sculptures, pottery, etc… Quite whimsical!

Wood birds with paint brush tails and maps applied to their bodies… because they were “migrating!”…

The heads of clay were of people the artist actually knew her sister, herself and a second grade teacher were a few… All had a bird friend attached in some way…

Painted pottery sat on the shelves and origami bluebirds flew from a wind chime

A mixture of Religious artifacts, small keepsakes and wall hangings…

The “Loveless Hams and Jams Country Market” was packed with homemade jellies, jams, country hams, soft drinks, candy, honey, cheeses, pickles and souvenir gifts… They have a mail order service for all of their products…

A picture to finalize our day seemed very appropriate

What do you think?

“Bell Buckle Craft Fair”… Already Planning for Next Year!

Gift…

We arrived back at Vera’s and Jack’s… pretty tired… We chilled… Only had a little snack since we had such a wonderful lunch at the “Loveless Cafe’ “

Knowing Vera and I had a big day coming…we opted for bed pretty soon after watching a show on TV… and talking  as we always do when we get together…

Vera’s friend, JoAnn arrived right on time… early the next morning… a lady just like us…wanting to get out and see what we can find at the “Bell Buckle Craft Fair”!

I was really excited! … because I had never been… but, as I said in an earlier blog… it sounded a lot like the one we go to in Glendale, KY

It was not a long ride… JoAnn and I had never met… only knew each other from what Vera had said… Her description seemed pretty accurate… and I believe JoAnn thought the same thing about me

We found a parking place at the city park  “no charge” if you parked there!… and it was just a couple of blocks to all of the festivities…We all had worn our “walking shoes”

We came to the center of town… A small place with a train track running right through the middle … Vendors were everywhere!… already selling their wares

Knives, homemade dish towels and crocheted items , toys, jewelery… lots of jewelery!… from necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings, hair accessories to scarf holders

Brightly colored scarves… to match any outfit… A popular item!… Hats , blouses, sweaters, kids clothes, doll clothes…

Sunglasses, jellies/jams , sauces, purses…

Wreaths for Fall, wreaths for Christmas , handmade wood items, handmade quilts

Picture frames, wonderful smelling soaps, sun catchers, leather items such as beautiful bound diaries , belts  fitted to your waist, hammered and embossed with your initials or your name…

I wondered why I saw so many people were wearing “orange?”…but, then I remembered it wasn’t just a Fall color…It was “Tennessee Volunteers”   country…

We hopped on the wagon pulled by a big tractor… bales of hay to sit on… even roll around stairs for the elderly to climb up on since the wagon was so high… Everyone talking to each other and pointing out the different sites… It seemed everyone was out to have a lovely day and the weather was cooperating just right!

We rode over to Maple Street

More vendors lined the streets and it seemed there was no end in sight…

We had our eyes looking for the “Roasted Corn on the Cob… We found it!… but, I think it was our noses that found it first… dipped in melted butter , the husk used for the handle… sweet and tender… a little salt/pepper… Oh, my~ was it good!…

We passed the cloggers… girls dressed in full skirts… keeping up with the music and tapping their shoes to the “fiddle” beat!…

People sat on more hay bales to eat and enjoy the show…

We made our way around lots more booths…

The smell of Kettle Corn wafted through the air… and we found the booth we wanted!… They had Regular , Caramel, Candy Apple, and “Variety” which had a mixture of about 6 different fruit flavors… and we all chose different flavors… That way we could taste each others…

By this time… Vera had bought a necklace with a cross… very pretty… a purse for a little girl she knew… also cute, with a big flower on the front…

JoAnn had purchased some steak knives… for her husband… Scarves for herself… 4 to be exact… and I had bought some pretty fragrant soaps… I love that they are homemade and make such nice gifts for Christmas… a Butterfly Hair Clip for another niece… dainty and pretty…

The scents were “energy”, “blackberry”, “orange grove” and “white magnolia”…

Vera and I both bought a book called “Secrets From Behind the Chair”… and the author was there to sign it… She was the sweetest!… It will be a gift for my niece who is a hair dresser and Vera also has a favorite hair dresser that she has had for about 20 years…

Both Vera and JoAnn watched ( were mesmerized ) by a vendor who sliced, grated, chopped, stirred and peeled  with a Food Processor  for about 20 minutes… I never saw so much wasted food… cabbage grated to about a 1-1/2′ tall mound… tomatoes chopped in a bowl that held about 3 gallons… corn on the cob grated off the husk into a pile a 1-foot deep X 1-foot wide… Used for demonstration purposes… and it must work… because…

as they caught up with me at a couple of booths down the row… They displayed their purchases… saying, “We got a great deal!”… I kinda giggled… because I think I’ve heard that before… and then in about 6 months it will be sitting in a closet somewhere… but, as long as they like it and use it at least one time… it will be a great memory!

We made our way back to the pick-up point of the wagon to ride back to the center of town… We were going to eat at the “Bell Buckle Cafe’ “…

We put our name in and it was going to be about a two-hour wait… We stuck it out… taking turns… viewing the shops along the strip…

We spotted these cute poodle puppies sitting on their master’s motorcycle… They never tried to jump down and seemed to pose for pictures snapped by the onlookers…

I spotted some lamps made from kitchen  appliances and tools… People will never cease to amaze me with their talents and ideas…

Our name was called and we made our way back to be seated in this old refurbished building with original brick walls

We had BBQ, Chicken Salad, Veggies, cornbread

Of all my experiences so far… this was probably my only disappointment… but, then comparing it to my meal the day before at the Loveless Cafe… which was awesome food!… it probably didn’t have a chance!… It just wasn’t as good as I expected…

As we walked back to the car I was thinking of the things I wished I had done… Like drinking a glass of iced cold Fresh Squeezed Lemonade

and I was glad I got a photo of those pretty bird houses…

and plans were going around in my head for next year’s trip to the Bell Buckle Craft Fair!

“Small Town Bliss”

Gift…

I’m getting to take a short trip with my favorite guymy husband … and we’re going to visit my favorite cousin in Murfreesboro, TN

She’s invited us to stay with her and her husband… which I like so much better on short trips… where we can visit  more…

Going down on a Friday… then she and I are getting up really early to have some girl time…

We’re going to the Bell Buckle Craft Fair

in Bell Buckle, Tennessee… located in middle Tennessee not far from where my cousin lives…

She has come up my way to what I call the Greatest Craft Fair in our area… Glendale, KY

… so I’m going to check out her Greatest Craft Fair in TN… We’ll compare notes     later , ha, ha!

I find it interesting that both are Railroad towns… They sound so similar… from parking in the grass… lining the streets… to all of the Specialty Craft items being sold…

It’s small town bliss! …and all of us outsiders are biting at the bit to view all that they have to offer…

I read there are some neat accommodations if you were wanting a place to stay… Like the “Blue Tin Roof Retreat”…

or the “Red Rooster Bed and Breakfast“…

Of course we will have a wonderful time!… just being together… We are of the same mind on looking, looking, looking… at all of the neat Fall and Christmas Holiday Items

… purchasing small gifts for that certain person… and we are so willing to try out the corn  … the grilled foods… the homemade candies  ,cookies  and jellies

The perfumed homemade soaps enticing us to smell each scent… the whimsical wood creations   … the oh, so lovely… decorations

Oh, I’m getting excited just thinking about it!…

See you soon cousin!

A “Pick Me Up”…

Gift…

As I go out to my special stores that are discounted all of the time… I’m continually on the look for the unusual, useful, needful or just something that makes me feel happy… I look at what others buy… and wonder, “why?”… and I’m sure they look at my stuff and think the same thing… Today since it’s after Christmas… if you bought one item, you got two items free … Sounds too good to be true … but, it was so… The only catch of course was that you paid for the highest priced item… Still, a fantastic buy!… I purchased three items that were brand new… Cost me around $3.00… “Can’t beat it with a stick!”  as they say… I’m at the point that I really think about what I’m purchasing… It can’t be something that’s just going to lay around and collect dust... I put things back for birthdays , Christmas gifts  or just to give someone a “pick me up”  sometime… I look for items my grand-kids can make things out of… They love doing “Crafts” as my grand-son calls it… Costing little for us to have a fun time… Right now, I feel a little under the weather… Have you got a stash like mine where you can give me a little “pick me up!” I’ll be waiting!
