Starting My Day Off Right!

I feel like TODAY I might get back some normalcy… I’m up earlier than my guys

“I like it like that!”…

I’ve made coffee k5415900… which my Bobby will appreciate…

I’ve petted my cat, JillShe loves that!… since I have to rub her from one end to the other for about 5 minutes… and say how pretty she is…

She leads me to my computercr01p022 … WE have our little routine… I check my email… Facebook… weatherk5498252 … a little news of the world… my blogging friends posts…

She climbs upon her stool to look ut the window… I imagine we are checking the weather also… how many birds dbe0019and squirrels k7896149are in HER yard… and if anyone is passing by

What a great way to start my day!

Signs of Friendship…

Gift…

Have you ever had a day that you were glad you were “YOU!” ???

Well… the reason I feel so good … is that I have such a variety of wonderful  friends…

I call my sister and get her out of bed … Does she mind???… “No”, she says… as we immediately get to talking about this and that… We laugh… we discuss different topics… we talk about our kids… we are true friends… Yes, my sister but, friends…

I go to swimming aerobics… and I’m greeted by several ladies that I talk to at least a couple of times a week … “How are you today?”… and they seem to really care…

We chit-chat back and forth about the temperature of the water… the sun that wasn’t shining… the rescue by our little life guard  that ended up being… just a guy… playing around in the water… We have a new instructor… young and full of vigor… and we leave saying, “That was a good workout”…

The time was well spent… and the new friends I’m making are so sweet… It was just a good way to start the day…

I get home right when my teenage granddaughter Taylor, arrives… I still find it hard to watch her drive up in her little car … with that big beautiful smile on her face… A “Hi Grandma!”… and I melt…

We are on a higher level than we were a few years back… She is growing and maturing… We chit-chat like my lady friends… but this time it’s about boyfriends workinglittle brother and sisterher Mom and Dadmoving … (Mom and Dad have decided to buy another house) … I love having her as a “friend”… Because friends can talk to each other about anything…

She leaves and I get a call from a young girl that taught sign language in our classroom the last year I worked… Mindy was the interpreter for one of our Special Ed students who had hearing loss… and couldn’t talk…

I admired her abilities and we became friends… Me… more of a Mother figure… but, friends… She had called me  last year about the same time I recall and we pick up right where we left off… I encouraging her… and her telling me all about her life since the last time we talked… She’s married… going to school… changing her goal to elementary education  and loving it… looking for a house… I heard every detail… and loved it!… Why?… Because she thinks of me as a friend and that makes me happy

I then read a few blogs and my Facebook page  on the internet that I keep up with and chit-chat again… just a few words… but, keeping the lines of friendship open…

As I’m coming in from being outside helping my husband in the yard… the telephone rings … I check the number and know it’s my cousin, Vera who lives in Tennessee… She is on her way home from work which takes about thirty minutes… This is our time to talk (chitchat) at least three times a week…We get right to it!… discussing our day… exchanging ideas… relating news of each other’s family… We could talk for hours but, usually limit it to this time… Why?… because we are friends besides cousins… We know each other thoroughly… and can tell how each is feeling immediately… Friends are like that!… Even “cousin friends”…

This was just one day!… and it was full of happy thoughts… laughs… and contentment… Isn’t that a wonderful thing!… Praise!… is what comes to mind!… and  ED!

To “Facebook” or NOT to “Facebook”?…That Is the Question!

I hooked up with Facebook   today…Have actually fought getting on…Reasons???

#1. Safety Issues …who’s going to get my info?

#2. Time consuming  …I already spend so much time doing my blog …which I thoroughly enjoy

#3. My husband just doesn’t get it!…”Who are you talking to?…Who is getting all your info?…Why do you want to do it?…Don’t you think you’re on the computer too much as it is?”, he says.

#4. I like to hear all the pros and cons before I try something.

 #5. I didn’t understand the concept fully.

#6. Just because everyone does it…doesn’t mean I have to or even want to.

#7. My husband is watching someone on TV right now… who had their bank account and their “Friends” bank accounts compromised and pretty much depleted…just by being on Facebook.

The reason I changed my mind was really quite by accident …I was looking at a sites Facebook account…when they said I needed to join or could go no further…so right then and there I did it…Within minutes you are pretty much hooked…all those people who you know…just waiting for me to become their friend …Is’nt that grand!…I thought I was already their friend…but, evidently not …They seem to think they can only talk to me and share their thoughts and activities with me this way…I agree it doesn’t take as much effort…

No going to the telephone and sitting in one spot for a while and having an actual conversation… after eavesdropping   on the other parties conversation that shares the line with you…Oh no, that was when I was in Elementary School…1950’s I do believe …Hmm…

No getting out a pen…more likely a pencil…and paper with just some lines on it or plain white…and actually writing in cursive  …Dear _____, … How have you been?…and so on and so on…until you’ve told them everything that had happened the last couple of weeks…signing it with Love, ______… having to buy a stamp and licking it  and placing it on the envelope …and you actually knew how to address it the correct way…I even remember when zip codes  started being used…Oh no, what year was that?…July1,1963 to be exact…

No going to the dime store  and actually buying a special birthday card or get well card  and actually mailing it to the person…and they thought that the card was the gift  …Oh no, just a card…I thought you had to buy expensive presents…I believe I like the card idea…Let’s try it for a year…wouldn’t people be surprised?

No walking across the street and sitting on the porch …having a cup of coffee or a glass of iced tea…with your neighbor…Oh no, you don’t really know your neighbor that well…you just say hi and by…as you get in your car to go a couple of blocks down to Wal-Mart  or Kroger…

So it looks like our way of communicating has changed a lot…so do I keep on blogging???  Do I keep on “Facebooking” ??? Do others keep on texting??? or talking on cell phones while doing 5 things at once??? …I’m sure that gives the person you are talking to, lots of your attention…

So here’s the dilemma …Do you want me for your friend??? and do I want you for my friend???

<<<<<<<Which one would you rather do?…

“My Kids!”…

Some of our students knew about Facebook   long before I did…They saw their parents, relatives or friends doing it …Some said they had their own Facebook account…Who am I to doubt it…One thing I do know is that “Friendship”  was so important to these children…Some of our kids were so friendly we had to teach them what was appropriate and what wasn’t…You just can’t hug everyone  …even if you think you like them a lot…Some of our kids even wanted to sit on others laps …NO, NO!…that was quite unacceptable…We were not their Mom or Dad…even if they thought that way of us…another teaching time…When we would be out in a public place such as a movie theater  …a grocery store… an amusement park …a playground area…We would have to watch and make sure our kids were kept safe   from unfriendly people…They loved talking … had so much trust…so suseptible…so easily swayed …These children will need to be supervised  as to who they accept  as their Friends …Because they themselves, are just too friendly!
