Classmates, My Guys… and Strawberry Wine!

Had 4th treatment yesterday… not many side effects… just the touching of “cold” stuff…

other than that Bobby is doing about whatever he feels like…

and I see my guy back to what we call more normal…

At times I am a basket case yet…

the treatment days are the worse… brings things to reality…

I read… watch TV… eat… as he sleeps most of the hours we are there…

He will be scanned in about a week to see if treatments are helping…

I bought this yummy Green Tea/Ginger MuffinOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

and brought it home…

I ate two bites and gave the rest to Bobby… since I went to BUNCO with family last night…

We both liked it…

Carson cutting door frames and Bobby sitting on couch after a days work…

Probably would have been more comfortable with the cushions on…

My Grandson is 12 and loves to do any kind of work like this… following with his Dad… and learning…

He does a great job!…

When we are completed Saturday… We will go out for Father’s Day…

We will celebrate Brian and Bobby… but, I feel we should still celebrate Joe… my daughter-in-law’s Dad who passed away a little over a year ago…

We all still miss him a lot!…

My Dad passed away I believe 37 years ago… Still miss him too… A great Dad!…

I met up with a my High School friend that I went out to eat lunch with about a week ago… and we went to Huber’s Farm…

logo-hubers

(Yes… same place I bought strawberries … etc. … last week with some friends)

We met with a group of fellow classmates we graduated High School with……

and had a wonderful time…

Great conversation… “Strawberry Wine”… and good food… (just too much!) …

Strawberries were bought and placed on our tables by one of our nice guys… with Whipped Cream for dipping…

YUM! YUM!… what a nice gesture!

This farm is family owned and has grown in leaps and bounds since taking my boys strawberry picking there over 40 years ago…

One of the guys and his new wife gives all of his fellow classmates this dollar folded in a shirt shape… with the words…”IN GOD WE TRUST”… going down the side of the shirt…

Quite clever and also a nice thing to do!…

More of my flowers have bloomed… and I took a few photos as I wandered my yard…

How peaceful!…

“My” Favorite Fathers…

I picked my “immediate” favorite Fathers…

We have so many in our BIG extended family

My son Doug… is not a “Father” but, the best Uncle any kids could ever have…

Sometimes “surrogate” fathers are wonderful… the ones who play games, always have movies available, treats on hand and lots of love to give…

My son Brian… has turned into one of the Best Dads I know…

I’ve never seen so much love oozing out of a person for his three kids

and they know it!…

Hugging… smooching… playing with them… talking to them… disciplining them…

and working hard every day to provide for them…

A  wonderful Dad… as you would see by his 3 grown children

Two daughters and one son + two children who died as infants…

and three Grandchildren

Worked hard every day… taking them on many trips… eating out a lot and just showing his love in his hugs and grin…

Loving Father… hard worker… supporting… fun… active…

Giving all he could and still does to his two boys and his three Grandkids

Thanks to these guys in my life that have shown what being a Dad is all about!

Treasures Left From My Daddy…

My dad always made each one of us feel so special…

He was always laughing…k13327028

had a joke to tell…

Not affectionate in a huggy/kissy way… but, through his words and actions we knew we were loved

Taking us on outings

Always trips to the drive-in k6801775… parks/picnicsx12239912 … vacations… friend’s homes

People loved him so… Always visitors at the house…

k11129309

He was a hard worker… coming in from hanging wallpaper all day… so tired… but, with a smile on his face… as we greeted him…

He disciplined with a look and words only…

Things he left us when he passed…

discipline, work ethics, generosity, reliability, honesty, sense of humor, caring, love…

things he had made with his own hands…

a history of his youth…

a pride in his accomplishments…

He was raised in an orphanage where he said, “I got the best care and education I could have ever received!”…

In an exhibition ball game he struck out Babe Ruth 75px-Babe_Ruth and made headlines in the newspaper… A great young pitcher at that time… but, hurting his arm deferred that career…

ending with a career as a wallpaper hanger… known in Louisville as one of the best!

Happy Father’s Day Daddy!

I had to share this special poem by Freeda Nichols… a fellow blogger I follow… who is a wonderful poet and storyteller…

His Favorite Daughter

Three Girls Colorized Circa 1915Pocket watch, savonette-type. Italiano: Orolog...
Three Girls Colorized Circa 1915 (Photo credit: linkerjpatrick)

There once was a huntsman, John Dee– his name

who lived in the great Ozark hills

and he had three daughters, sweet daughters–all three.

He told each one she was his favorite–

his favorite was she.

Each girl admired her kind-hearted father

and smiled to herself thinking she

was his favorite daughter–

most favored of the beautiful three.

Now Sadie, the eldest, was certain that she

would inherit the watch that he wore

but Carly could tell by the glint in his eye

it was she he would leave it for

and Julie just knew she would get it–for sure–

the pocket watch trimmed in gold.

When each little girl had begun toddling around,

John held the watch close to her ear.

The little girls loved its tick and its tock–

the pocket watch trimmed in gold.

They lived on the hillside by rocks and rills

in the awesome and beautiful Ozark hills.

Mini Adventure Ends… Al Di La’… but, there is “Beyond”

We’re almost done… Actually, we were pretty done by the time we reached our room … We showered… put on our PJs… and since we actually hadn’t eaten supper… just fried pickles much earlier… we had on our minds to warm up the leftover pizza  from the night before… It was still so good…Turning on the TV… what to our surprise… one of our favorite old movies from when we were teens came on…A Summer Place

with troy Donahue and Sandra DeeWhat a great way to end our little adventure… It couldn’t have worked out better!…

The movie came out in 1959… so we were actually 10 going on 13… This was probably a memorable movie because it addressed things that were so taboo in our young lives… Affairs… pregnancy … young love… And as we commented… not having to show all of the details… as they do now… Your imagination could paint the pictures even better than the real action… Why did this have to change??? … Just have to show more, more, more… and now our kids have no innocence It’s right under their noses… So they say, “It must be OK to do these things”… So sad!… Can you believe we got so much out of watching an old movie???…

I have to admit Sandra Dee  was sure a cutie… and Troy Donahue wasn’t bad either …

It brought back memories of another favorite movie of mine with him in it…”Rome Adventure

and the songAl Di La‘” which means “Beyond”… Just love that song and the music… We stayed up and reminisced some more… talked to our guys at home… Father’s Day  was coming that Sunday… Already had received a call from my son to come to their house for dinner and swimming… Sounded like a winner to me… Something to look forward to after having to leave our mini vacation

We slept soundly… as we had been doing… Vera got up before me and brought me back fresh coffee to have with another donut from the Friar Donut Shop… our last hurrah!… The coffee tasted so good since I had warmed up my leftover coffee the morning before… Thanks Vera!… You’re a great cousin!…

We packed… left the keys… and hit the road… We arrived at her house in Murfreesboro, TN  and I immediately got into my car and headed North to Louisville... I would make pretty good time if I could miss the Nashville going home… after work… traffic…

Arrived home safely… greeted by my husband , son and cat, Jill… I could tell they had missed me…. Isn’t that grand!…

The T-shirts I got for my guys at home… were a hit… and others enjoyed their small gifts as well…

I just saw a coupon for Zip-Lining near French Lick , Indiana through the Hoosier Forest… A stay at the French Lick Springs Hotel

…check out the casino  … Is that my next mini adventure???…We’ll see!

“Dads”…Special Fathers!

When I was a little girl …some of my favorite times were with my Dad…He was a great talkertold storieslaughed a lot…and everyone loved him…He hung wallpaper for a living …Worked every day…I never remember him being sick and having to stay home from work…I remember meeting him at his station wagon and carrying in his lunch box …The big, long station wagon held his wallpaper books that he showed to his customers, his ladders , his wallpaper pasting table  he set up in people’s homes to paste on…I loved that smell of wallpaper and paste…There were also his scissors that he would get sharpened at Heimerdinger Cutlery …still in business since 1861…At that time they were located on Jefferson Street in Louisville…You never used them for cutting anything else …These were his special tools…Tools  that made his work easier and helped him make a living for his family…His paste brushes, carefully wrapped after cleaning them everyday…Buckets for water and to mix the paste in…He had scaffolding …Boards that extended and that he would lay between two ladders to walk on…He always had a little black book  that he was writing in…No, it  was not full of girl’s telephone numbers…maybe customer’s numbers…but, he wrote down color combinations , prices, dimensions, estimates , dates , addresses, people’s names…anything he felt important…He kept a pencil with him all the time … a carpenter’s pencil they called it…because it was flat……and usually a tape measure …He was usually by himself hanging the wallpaper…and knew all the tricks to getting the job done…I have wall papered a lot It is not easy!…lot’s of climbing up and down ladders ..holding your arms up in one position until you get everything matched and even …but, just like him…I love it!…I guess it’s the finished product…Smooth colorful walls with pretty designs stripes  or flowers  that brighten up the room…I will always have a little wallpaper in my house…Then I will have that wonderful smell to remind me of those special days!…Happy Father’s Day Dad!

“My Kids!”…

Dad’s have many professions …but, I think the most important one is just Being a Dad! My son is what I call a real dad!…He watches his kids, goes to ballgames , skating parties , shopping , out to eat with them, plays with them , makes breakfast for them … I love it when I see them all sitting in his lap…He never seems to mind…He doesn’t even notice…They kiss him , hug him , tell tales on him…They can’t wait to see him! …Our school dads had “Special Kids” to raise…not the expectations that they had when they found out they were having a little girl or boy…Sometimes life hands us something we have never encountered…I’m sure these Dads were taken off guard…had many questions…had much apprehension…when they learned of their child’s special” handicap…All I can say is that I saw these Dads love their children like a Dad should…It showed! …and from what I heard them say…They were each given a little blessing in disguise…There were a few of our student’s dads  that stand out in my mind…The love you saw demonstrated was so touching …Every field trip …they were there…every event  at school …they were there…they talked about the progress they saw in their child …they told us funny stories …The smiles on their faces as their child ran to meet them …and those little hugs, as they dropped them off for school … said wonders… For those Dads that have loved the profession of being a Dad…Happy Father’s Day!
