Vacation Trip… Finally Here!

Will be leaving my computer to be repaired while on vacation…
Think I need new driver…
It will be like leaving my old cat… sad…
I will miss both…
and my Jill will be looking for me I’m sure…
A sweet neighbor/friend… will be checking on her for me… along with mail… etc. …
but, my computer will just have to bear it until I return…
waiting for me to pound out my ideas… thoughts… and words to whoever will listen…
My computer has become like an old friend…
I was intimidated at first and then starting exploring … and now…
I love her!…
No, I haven’t actually given my computer a name…
but, she is a good friend…
letting me sit and pound out my frustrations and joys…
We will be leaving for Panama City, Florida this Friday…
My countdown is down to one more day…
I can’t believe it!…
Bobby and I are going with our kids, grandkids, daughter-in-law and her mother…
Separate cars… but, will meet in Alabama for a night …
taking it easy… ALL of us…
and then heading to the beach the next day…
I feel pretty prepared…
clothes about ready to pack…
cooler cleaned and drinks/snacks bought for the road trip…
Bobby has the car in excellent condition…
going over tires, brakes, oil/fluids, transmission and a cleaning/wax job even…
That’s my guy…
We will finish up last-minute things today and tomorrow…
Some friends want us to go for ice cream this evening… before we leave…
Love this sweet thought…
Letting us know we will be missed…
Neighbors are excited for us getting away as us I do believe…
They are the kindest…
declaring our house will be watched…
In my thoughts…
I feel this may be the last trip together with our little family for my Bobby…
so… it is important for us to go and enjoy the boys… the grandkids and our little family we have made…
Skipping a treatment(chemo) will let Bobby be at his best for the trip…
more energy… less side effects…
so wish us a safe trip please…
and prayers are welcomed for a lovely time…

New Cancer Meds… Visits and Kind Words …

Long week…

k29732696

Bobby started a new chemo medicine along with the two he was getting…

The Doctors hope to get him on the onedrop the other two

if it maintains like the others…

The objective…

to have only a two-hour infusion every two weeks and no pump to take home…

As with any cancer drugs… there are side effects…

k22313737

the other drugs causes neuropathy… numbness in feet and fingers…

hand / fingers very susceptible to cold… No touching anything very cold… and being in cold winter air is bad…

This new one has it’s “pretty” side too…

Breaking out in rash… k19603048

on chest… neck… face…

only thing to try to help this is just washing with antibiotic soaps and shampoos…5d942ba5-8cec-444c-93a8-daf9c2e1b331_1_ef5378837881511b281880fbaa483ed16185_dialsoapacne_moneyback

A few bad days when this started appearing…

but, today…

as always…

my Bobby is adjusting to situation and said, “If this is as bad as it gets… I think I can handle it!”…

k17219731

What strength he shows me after just a little “break-down”…

Just so disheartening…

but, I tell him, “We are in this together… and we will do the best we can!”…

So as of today… although energy level down

He has put up our last two window blinds for the house…

He always amazes me with the energy he pulls up…

Oldest Granddaughter came by for a visit… like rays of sunshine when she enters the house… with her sweet smile…

and of course “Dexter”    is a joy… her “buddy” as she calls him…

We walked around the block and felt sunshine on our skin…

Our weekend has been nice…

with a friend of ours coming by to get Bobby… “a man trip” to Home Depot… eating some pizza too…

then my sweet sister shows up with fish, slaw, fries, hush puppies… 14690921_10154563105652836_8489886634317319224_n

A welcome sight!…

Phone calls every day from my special cousin… another friend calls… and then a neighbor comes over to check on Bobby… bringing the Dial soap… and talks until we are both tired…

These are things that keep people going…

keep people feeling up beat…

keep people believing in their words of encouragement…

Real Friends

Walking together

Lily Mugford

A fellow blogger I follow “Lily Mugford“… posted this blog and photograph

It got my mind stirring as to… who are “My Real Friends” ???…

and as I contemplate …

I believe there are different groups for friends…

There are friends (true… real…) that have been there ever since you met them

You might not see each other every day…

talk every day…

but, if you decided to get in touch… they would open their arms to greet you and be glad!…k9896399 and some how keep in touch!

There are true friends that I have that are also “relatives”… so close… they know your inner thoughts u16413070as well as what you show to the outside world…

Love… love… love these friends…nri0123

I have neighborly friends

They sit and talk about a lot of things… a couple of times a week… but, keep a distance to a certain extent…nri0107

Not wanting you to come in too far…

I do this too!…

You have acquaintance friends

People you might see at different clubs you belong to… or have worked with…

talk about lots of things againk11964578but, there is still that little thin wall that keeps you from becoming “true friends”…sca0393

Social media friends… I do call you my friend!…and I feel I know a lot about some of you… but…k13661731

I still believe I would have to actual meet you in person to really get to know you and then maybe we would become true friends!… probably a lot of you!u19077096

That’s OK… When true friends are meant to be

all barriers are pulled down… your heart opens k10072213 … and love enters… k6794719

We are a strange lot… us humans… with all of our feelings… past experiences... lifestylesentwined… k12371025

Do some of these things keep you from making friends???

or do you just give yourself freely to all who come into your life…k3953177

Labor Day… aTime to Rest… a Time to Celebrate!

Memory…

Labor Day   came and passed with not even a picnic … at least not for me…

My Dad’s birthday was September 1,  and he would have been 105 years old this past Saturday…

He has already passed… leaving behind memories of wonderful chidlhood days for me…

That’s wonderful to me!

Right before his last birthday hear on Earth… I had taken him to get his hair cut … renew his driver’s liscense … even though Mom was sure he would not drive any more…

My thoughts were…”Let him hope!”…”Don’t take that from him!”…

After our errands were run… I left, with him sitting in the swing on the front porch of the wonderful home he had built for us with his own two hands…

Every board… nail… screw… pipe… concrete work had his handprints on it!…

Less than a week later he was gone… The many heart attacks he had… finally took him…

He passed with my Mom by his side… watching his favorite sportbaseball … at home

He was only 72 years old… Too young according to figures now… But, we never know our time…

Labor Day brings back memories of many picnics  family get-togethers… The yard full of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Brothers, Sisters, Friends, Neighbors and whoever else my Dad had invited Tables and chairs under the trees my Dad and Mom had planted Food prepared by my Mom and every one bringing a dish cold drinks ready… for an afternoon of ball playing, horseshoes , croquet  or badminton

Ladies sitting and talking… observing the kids and bandaiding a few knees or arms … from playing so hard in the creek than ran in the backyard

My ears can still bring back all of the chatter… the laughing… the voices praising the good food

and then the good byes… as people started packing up their chairs and containers of leftovers

The kids so tired from catching lightning bugs  after dusk had come… that many had to be carried to the cars…

It was a joyous time!… and it seemed as though  celebrations were just meant to be for my Dad’s Birthday…

I remember asking, “What is Labor Day?”

My Mom explained it like this…

“It’s for people like your Dad who work so hard all year to make money for their families… To be able to provide food, clothing and a nice home … It’s a day of rest… to celebrate their labors”…

Rest well Daddy!

To “Facebook” or NOT to “Facebook”?…That Is the Question!

I hooked up with Facebook   today…Have actually fought getting on…Reasons???

#1. Safety Issues …who’s going to get my info?

#2. Time consuming  …I already spend so much time doing my blog …which I thoroughly enjoy

#3. My husband just doesn’t get it!…”Who are you talking to?…Who is getting all your info?…Why do you want to do it?…Don’t you think you’re on the computer too much as it is?”, he says.

#4. I like to hear all the pros and cons before I try something.

 #5. I didn’t understand the concept fully.

#6. Just because everyone does it…doesn’t mean I have to or even want to.

#7. My husband is watching someone on TV right now… who had their bank account and their “Friends” bank accounts compromised and pretty much depleted…just by being on Facebook.

The reason I changed my mind was really quite by accident …I was looking at a sites Facebook account…when they said I needed to join or could go no further…so right then and there I did it…Within minutes you are pretty much hooked…all those people who you know…just waiting for me to become their friend …Is’nt that grand!…I thought I was already their friend…but, evidently not …They seem to think they can only talk to me and share their thoughts and activities with me this way…I agree it doesn’t take as much effort…

No going to the telephone and sitting in one spot for a while and having an actual conversation… after eavesdropping   on the other parties conversation that shares the line with you…Oh no, that was when I was in Elementary School…1950’s I do believe …Hmm…

No getting out a pen…more likely a pencil…and paper with just some lines on it or plain white…and actually writing in cursive  …Dear _____, … How have you been?…and so on and so on…until you’ve told them everything that had happened the last couple of weeks…signing it with Love, ______… having to buy a stamp and licking it  and placing it on the envelope …and you actually knew how to address it the correct way…I even remember when zip codes  started being used…Oh no, what year was that?…July1,1963 to be exact…

No going to the dime store  and actually buying a special birthday card or get well card  and actually mailing it to the person…and they thought that the card was the gift  …Oh no, just a card…I thought you had to buy expensive presents…I believe I like the card idea…Let’s try it for a year…wouldn’t people be surprised?

No walking across the street and sitting on the porch …having a cup of coffee or a glass of iced tea…with your neighbor…Oh no, you don’t really know your neighbor that well…you just say hi and by…as you get in your car to go a couple of blocks down to Wal-Mart  or Kroger…

So it looks like our way of communicating has changed a lot…so do I keep on blogging???  Do I keep on “Facebooking” ??? Do others keep on texting??? or talking on cell phones while doing 5 things at once??? …I’m sure that gives the person you are talking to, lots of your attention…

So here’s the dilemma …Do you want me for your friend??? and do I want you for my friend???

<<<<<<<Which one would you rather do?…

“My Kids!”…

Some of our students knew about Facebook   long before I did…They saw their parents, relatives or friends doing it …Some said they had their own Facebook account…Who am I to doubt it…One thing I do know is that “Friendship”  was so important to these children…Some of our kids were so friendly we had to teach them what was appropriate and what wasn’t…You just can’t hug everyone  …even if you think you like them a lot…Some of our kids even wanted to sit on others laps …NO, NO!…that was quite unacceptable…We were not their Mom or Dad…even if they thought that way of us…another teaching time…When we would be out in a public place such as a movie theater  …a grocery store… an amusement park …a playground area…We would have to watch and make sure our kids were kept safe   from unfriendly people…They loved talking … had so much trust…so suseptible…so easily swayed …These children will need to be supervised  as to who they accept  as their Friends …Because they themselves, are just too friendly!
