You Can Always Ask Grandma!

Granddaughter callsk9934059I’m usually surprised… because at 11 years old… she just doesn’t call me to chit-chat

She is wondering if I have anything I would like to have done… She is in need of money for vacationk14025282

My mind starts thinkingWhat can I have her do???

and whenk1426336

I tell her I will think about it… but, I’m sure I will come up with something…

Actually she will be having two trips

One with Mom, Dad, little brother and maybe big sister… to KennywoodlogoIn Pittsburg…

Her Momma has fond memories of it… where she grew up… and knows the kids will love it like her…

rollerCoastersclassicRides

The other is to a family reunion k2528525 with her other Grandma, her Mom, and little brother to Missouri k1896155and k13402358 …

Lots of plans for that and sounds like a lot of fun

But, she NEEDS MONEY! k12282242

With our son… coming over to have his Dad put brakes on their car k5922727k12404745before their trip… I called and asked if the kids were coming with him…

Yes, they are coming…

So, with me just getting up… my plans were slowly coming together… as to what they could dok8377680

Because now… it was Kennedy and little brother wanting to make some money

I had to come up with double the jobs… and ones suited for each…

plus double the money!

Kennedy… unload dishwasher… and reload… I will start it…

k8266619HOUS_22C

Carson… Come help me make the bed… k7783236

Carson… I’ll plug-in vacuum sweeper… You can run it in the hall, living room and computer room…k12349625

OK… no problem!…

Kennedy… through with dishes

You straighten my papers on my computer table… It will look quite a bit better in a straight stack instead of my “throw it in a pile” look… u10220881

and if you want to straighten anything else… feel free

Carson has now finished with vacuuming… so taking out the trash to the bigger can was done…k0599872

Looking around… what I saw… was quite nice and neat

Actually… they did a great job!u15116730

My day was starting out much more organized in such a short time…

They were giving me that look… you know the one… when they don’t want to ask

but,  want to find out how much I’m going to give them… for all they did!…

I told their Dad we are going to Wal-Mart to pick up a few things… and I needed to get some cash…

We walked through Wal-Mart… They kinda hint and sometimes come right out with something they might want… first watermelon k1598590… No, we have some at home…We keep walking…

I hear them whispering that they would be getting paid… so don’t ask for things…k13864888

They are just so cute!

They wanted to try the new “Sherbet” Oreo Cream Cookies7155657361_c35215617c“Shure, Bert!” …

and Gator Ade 1371652786084529423017is always a winner…

I picked up what I needed and when we left the store I handed each a $20.00 bill…

k0012268

I wish I could have done more… but, they were elated!…

Going on and on how great it was to earn their $20.00…

That made me feel good!… and with “thank yous” a few times…

Kennedy is explaining how they are putting all of their earned money together and then will split it up between them… k9196819

How neat is that!…

Carson was having a little withdrawal I think when we passed the Crane Machine… where you try to pick up stuffed animals or other objects …

but, he made it past it… and he was proud of himself that he was able to restrain himself… (he’s only 8)…

acme-crane-company-43-crane-redemption-game-benchmark

They were tickled telling their Dad what they had earned… and when Mom happened to call I heard them telling her too…k7259297

I think it makes kids feel good about what they achieve… when given these small beginning tasks…

I give their parents credit… for putting the “bug in their ear” k8641201 about asking Grandma for some jobs to do… What better way to teach… and have them learn!

12 YEARS

12 YEARS!…

That’s how long it takes to go from an Elementary student in first grade to being that “Senior”  in High School

In this case a little girl to a young ladyOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My Granddaughter achieved this small goal in her life yesterday…

along with 265 other students that were in her graduating Class of 2013

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I say… small goal… because it is only one of many she will obtain as the years continue on…

Next will be college… she has been accepted to the University of Louisville Louisville_Cardinals_svg

To say I am proud as a Grandma… Yes, for sure!…

and will celebrate this moment with her…

Marching in…

All there… because of their love of that special child… that they were honoring

Taylor had a little gathering that came to wish her best wishes

I only captured our little cheering section

Granddaughter with silly face… why do they do that!

Taylor with little sister, Kennedy…

Dad, Melanie (step-mom) , little sister, two cousins from Pittsburg and a friend that came with them and Bobby and myself…

Dad, Kennedy and Melanie…

(little brother at home)…

much too long for him!

but, many others had come to wish her congratulations…

Of course her Mom( Brian’s first wife) with Taylor’s other Grandma… a cousin who is like a best friend… one of her other “best friends” and her parents… and of course her boyfriend

Best Friend…

Even big girls make silly faces!… with boyfriend…

Of course there were friends and their parents that Taylor had grown up with… and had known all of those 12 years… graduating themselves…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Amber… “best friend” too… has known since first grade!

She always smiles… but, I caught that twinkle of “achievement”u14931924  in her eyes today…

An accomplishment!…

There’s the usual speeches… musick5432485 … and calling of each graduates name as they came forward for their diplomas

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Taylor just received her diploma… Yes, there was a little cheering!

Cheers from the parents and friends as they crossed the front of the auditorium

Hats were flung into the air… A true celebration… and a traditional show that it was over!…

A bittersweet feeling for sure!…

Melanie’s Mom had us all over for dinner…

Her BIG PARTY is TODAY!…

Plenty of good food… and conversation… Taylor invited a few close friends… Actually the ones mentioned… her cousin, her “Best Friend” and her boyfriend… Content as apple pie

We had Boneless chicken breast off of the grillk4888068 , broccoli casserole, hashbrown casserole, salad and good french bread

Yummy!… to say the least… after sitting for 2 hours and getting there an hour early for seats…

I took dessertStrawberry Lemonade Cake

Daily Prompt: Perspective

Write about the last disagreement you had with a friend or family member — from their perspective.

This lady… I don’t even remember her name… who helps my Grandma by taking her to Doctor’s appointments… picks up her prescriptions… takes her to Wal-Mart to shop… uses her car and gas…was so mean to me the other day…

I had met and talked to her one time when she picked us up and took my Grandma and me to Wal-Mart to grocery shop

Anyway… she had picked Granny up from the hospital after some tests were run on her… and then taken her to Wal-Mart to pick up prescriptions as usual and to do some major grocery shopping…

You see… my Mom and I had been living with Grandma for a couple of months… and we had finally gotten an apartment…

Granny had loaded the back of this lady’s car up with things for us… The lady had to help my Grandma with her walker… and take the riding grocery cart back in the store… after loading all of the groceries… They were really heavy!..

Anyway… I got home from school to find I had forgotten my key… and my Mom and Grandma were not home!… I dare them!… I called both of them and wanted to know when they would be home??? … I was cold!… and didn’t want to wait long… so I said, “Hurry up!”…

The lady evidently didn’t realize that I was COLD!…

Because when she and my Grandma got home… she had the audacity to ask ME to help them in with the groceries!… I said, “No way!… I’m COLD and I’m going inside!”…

and I said to my Grandma, “You could have at least had the key ready!”

The lady said, “Will you just take some things in as you go?”…

“No way!”, I said…

and proceeded into the house…

The lady seemed to think I had done something bad…”I dare her!”… I thought…

“Who does she think she is!”… asking ME to do anything…

So my Grandma hung 3 big bags on her walker and made it slowly up the ramp… as the lady grabbed as much as she could carry and came into the house…

She said, “You really aren’t going to help your Grandma in with the groceries?”… “Like NO!”, I said…

“I’ve been waiting outside in the cold … My Mom will get them in when she gets home”, I said….

She acted like she couldn’t believe her ears… and proceeds to go outside twice more and bring in all of the stuff my Grandma had bought my Mom and me…

She even seemed a little put out… when I said, “You need to mind your own business!”…

My grandma says to her… Just leave the things inside the door…

And this lady says, “No way… I’m very capable of bringing in the groceries, unlike some people!”… I do believe she was talking about me!… I dare her!… and let her know I didn’t like what she was saying in the least…

I start to cry… She had hurt my feelings… I even ran outside and met my Mom coming down the street… and by the time this mean ole’ lady came out of Grandma’s house, my Mom jumped her butt good!… I had really laid the tears on… and made this women out to be the mean thing she was!… Who in the world does she think she is!… as my Mom is hollering at her as we drove up and slammed on our brakes… My Mom was really mad that she had made her little girl cry… The lady proceeds to say something like, “All I was doing was helping your Mom and your Grandma… and I’ve done it often… I just asked her if she would help bring in some groceries”…

The lady seemed to be upset with us… I don’t know why?… and just got in her car and left…I say, “Good Riddance!”… How could she treat me so bad?

A Tired Grandma???

Memory…

A day with my Grandkids is the best day I can have!…

They just have a few days left until Christmas Break is over

As Dad went to work… he dropped them off…

Not the oldest one… being almost 18… she has a job… a boyfriend and lots of friends

Not that she doesn’t come over and like being with me… but, does not need to be watched

I give of myself for the day…  when they are over…

That means little cleaning k9574809 cooking  k0589216 but, for them… and thinking of interesting things for us to stay busy…

They arrived a little sleepy and me… still in my PJ’s k10910249

Dad had gotten them pancakes  k9288661 at McDonald’s

They decided on some chocolate milk k7319212for Carson…and strawberry milk k1333550for Kennedy… and to watch some TV… for a little while…

After Grandma got herself together… we headed for our walk to Wal-Mart… We cut through the back woods near our home as all kids do…

130103_002

and look for anything interesting along the way…

Today we saw Lichen growing on some logs since we have had lots of damp weather

They say “YUCK!”… and I say it’s quite pretty

130103_004

 130103_003  (“powder-edged ruffle lichen”)

The path is worn from all of the kids and adults taking a short cut

We cross the back parking lot

and spot some interesting looking concrete blocks used for decorative purposes… Carson said they would make a great garage… We have called him “Builder Bob” since he was small… loves to make things!

130103_015

130103_016

We decide to get a movie… at the Red Box… for $2.00… it’s a deal

Kennedy picks “Timothy Green”  51Bh0jHefUL__SX500_ and Carson picks “Madagascar” 61pNq2T3EQL__SX500_

130103_019

They get to pick lunch from the deli… for quickness sake… and then something they will eat for supper… Kennedy picks Popcorn Chicken and Mashed Potatoes… Carson… just BBQ Chicken but, says, ” I want something in the Cake Mix aisle”…

I guess we will be baking!…

He has already indicated PIZZA would be great for his supper!… and of course that’s fine with me… He’s at Grandma and Poppy’s house!

Kennedy decides on Cheeseburger Macaroni Hamburger Helper… How easy can it be!…

and they both decide on corn…”We love corn!”, they both say…

Big Red from the soft drink aisle and then Carson shows me what he wants to bakeChocolate Whoopies… sounds like fun to me!..

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

After I pick up a few things… we decide to head back…

Uncle Doug shows up as a surprise… and says he will take the groceries back in the car… He kinda figured we would have a “few” things to carry…

Thanks , Doug!

130103_021

We sttart walking back and find a new hat (toboggan) with the tags on it… Hate to think it… but, I think someone has stolen this from Wal-MartSo sad!…

130103_010

We see where the fence opening is as we get to the path behind our house…

130103_024

The kids cross over the bridge Poppy has built across the ditch that runs behind our property…

130103_026

We close the gate…and arrive home…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The fresh air has felt good!…

We rest…

We eat…

We make hotels and castles from all of the empty boxes I save…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We make books with stories…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We play on the computer… k3896878

We play soccer ball outside…

We watch “Karate Kid” 220px-Karate_kid … instead of the movie they bought… pretty typical

Carson did watch Madagascar later…

They play on their indoor basketball goal in the hallway…k0213453

to save my breakables…

Suppertime comes and their favorite foods are fixed… with their help in making the Whoopies

I tell Carson to get a wooden spoon to beat the cookie batter… and he proceeds to tell me, “I don’t want splinters in my cookies!”… and gets a plastic spoon…

That makes me chuckle

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Time has gone by fast… and Daddy is coming in the door to pick them up around 9:45pm… He works a funny shift… but, it works with their schedule

They leave with hugs and kisses… and Grandma collapses! k3145675 …

I wonder why???

The Rainbow Hotel

My son, “Mom, do you remember about next weekend… watching the kids?”… “Uh, no”, I said… “You mean I didn’t ask you”, from son… “Don’t know a thing about it”, from me… “Well, I thought I had… I’ve been so busy!” son talking  … Son says, “We’ve planned on going to Nashville  with our friends”… “Well, I don’t know… I might have some plans of my own”, I say…

Anyway … you can tell how this conversation continued  …

I said, “Of course!”… love having my grandkids… My plans can be put on hold!…

I guess… I hesitated only for a second… Mainly because I don’t want to be taken for granted…

And I have to admit they usually don’t do that to me… but, sometimes it sounds like it…

So Poppy and I picked the two younger ones up after Carson’s Football Game… The oldest being almost 18  … had somewhere to stay…

Carson is 7 and Kennedy… she is 10Great ages for doing things with…

After letting Carson get out of his uniform … I took them to get some fast food They are at Grandma’s!… They can have anything they want!

We decided to go to the park to eat and afterwards they could play on the playground equipment We had about an hour before we were going to see the movie, “Timothy Green”  I told them I had heard it was quite sad … Kennedy seemed to have known but, they both still wanted to see it…

While eating at the park… I recognized something on the groundPersimmons … just like we had in our yard when I was young

I showed the kids the fruit… tried to get them to taste one… but, barely stuck a tongue to it … They were good and ripe… I could tell… so they wouldn’t be bitter like they are when they haven’t ripened…

They helped me collect a McDonald’s bag half full…

I have plans for this neat fruit

After playing at the park for a while… we headed to the movie

We were a little early… so Carson tried out the Race Car Game  … He does pretty good!…

The movie had a lot of life lessons in it… but, it was quite sad … The kids must be getting older… because they seemed to understand the meaning… and talked a lot about it today…

TV and sleep was the agenda after getting home after dark

Oh, yes… both had to have their backs scratched … just like their Grandma

Today…we ate breakfast… Yes, McDonald’s again… thanks to Poppy... Breakfast Burritos and Cinnamon Rolls…

I had saved a lot of different boxes  for Carson to build with… His imagination is awesome... He decided to build a Hotel… complete with swimming pool…main entrance… several levels of floors… windows… delivery entrances… a Palm Tree… The name “Rainbow Hotel” came from the piece of rainbow-colored paper we had… and because the boxes had every color on them that you could imagine…

Kennedy also got into the creation… and extended the Hotel… I just loved it and they were so proud to see Mom and Dad’s faces when they showed them what they had made… I overheard Carson saying, “We had an awesome time!” and I had received a lot of “Thank You Grandma’s”   from Kennedy…

I guess I’ll have to start saving boxes again… Who knows what they will think to build next time…

“Show By Example…Will Never Be Forgotten!”

Gift…

I just talked to my daughter-in-law… she wanted to know if I remembered I was having my grandson tonight?… uhhhh?… I hate to say it, “I had forgotten!”  … not a big deal… I’ll take my grandkids anytime I can… I couldn’t believe a week had passed… I had him last Friday  night… Mom and Dad both having to work… and had promised I’d have him this Friday too… Both working again…

This time I will have Carson

and his big sister, Kennedy

… Great!… Love seeing them both… I say, “They can spend the night if they want”  … Sometimes they do and sometimes they have other plans… I’ve learned to understand that they are growing up and have friends they like being with…

Last week Carson couldn’t spend the night because he had a parade the next day… A parade with his fellow football players … all of the teams riding in trucks  and walking to show their team spirit

He was excited about making some signs to show his support… so Grandma (me)… with her never-ending supply of ideas … helped him make a sign  … We made it out of a box… covered in paper… glued “Viking” pictures … and drew pictures… and painted … put it on a stick provided by his Poppy… and hung gold and purple ribbons  from it… Well, I guess you get the picture… He thought it was just awesome!… Our heads put together can usually come up with some pretty nifty stuff

We made various other smaller signs… and he told me, “Taylor made me one too”… that’s his older sister

I left him to watch TV for a while and got on   … He would come in and get a few supplies from my stash … I had no idea what he was doing until he brought 3 cards to me and asked me, “Will you spell a few words for me?” He’s seven … and he had written most of what he wanted to say by himself… The gist of it was… He had written notes to all three of his coaches telling them how they were the best coaches his team could have… then placed them in envelopes to take to them the next day…

Of course tears came to my eyes of how thoughtful he was… how he had done this all on his own… how “smart” I think he is!… but, of course the main thing is that he has a good heart  … and maybe he’s already learning to show it to others … I just think that’s such a wonderful thing… Way to go Mom and Dad… Sisters… maybe even Grandparents… for showing him the way others should be treated

I always say, “Show by example… and it will never be forgotten!”

Love you Carson!

PS… Mom held the sign high and everyone commented on how great it was at the parade… I knew it all along!

“A Remote What?”

Gift…

Oh my!… I never know what I might find at my favorite Thrift Store  … as I have said before, “It is called “Unique” “… a most appropriate name!… I usually look at glassware… decorative items… pictures… really anything that catches my eye! And so the item that did this for me today… well, you would never guess!…It was a “Remote Snake” Brand new in the box  … and my first thought was that my grandson would just love it!… He’s right at the age that being a jokester is his perfect way of expressing his humor … So, being Grandma … I couldn’t resist making his day with this “unique” toy… All it needed were two AA batteries and two AAA batteries … This snake was called a “Banana Boa”… 20″ long… with glowing eyes…and moved forward…backwards…and side to side  …  I was actually impressed with it’s functions… It didn’t like the rough terrain my Grandson wanted to put it on… (it’s got tiny wheels on the bottom)…that makes it slink around… and he wished it liked to go through tall grass … That would be more real and actually scare people!… but, even at that, he was quite satisfied with his “unique” gift… Without me telling him… he turned off both switches to save the batteries… although I provided more  in case he played with it a lot… and then carefully put it back in the box to transport it home… I had went to his sister’s soccer game and he immediately showed it to her when she was finished… I paid less than $3.00 for it… and retail showed it to be running around $35.00… So, “I was quite pleased with my purchase”,  as his Daddy used to say when he bought something he liked… and by the way… Kennedy’s soccer team won  their game!
