Best Wishes Carson… and Melanie!

As I’ve said, “Adding a part-time job… to my agenda… has made some slight changes in my life”…

Still figuring out my managing techniques in my changing world…

but, I still have time to fit in my family…

Yesterday… we celebrated my Grandson’s Birthday with lunch at his favorite

“Restaurant of the Moment”… The Golden Corral logo

WHY?… is it his favorite right now!… Because it has 3 chocolate waterfall fountains

to dip all kinds of goodies inScreenShot20131101at2_21_33PM

plus, a cotton candy machine to make your own…

The girls(sisters) had fun at the cotton candy machine!

and thefood” bar is extraordinary with every kind of food possible…

I usually don’t like these “food troughs” as we have called them… but, the food here

is great!…  OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Carson enjoying everything he likes!

He wanted his family… which consists of his two sisters, Mom & Dad, both sets of Grandparents… and his Uncle Doug… OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

They are so cute and funny!

“Our Little Family”… is what I call it…

Of course being the Grandparent… my eyes are only on her… my granddaughter, Kennedy… for most of the play…

A Children’s Pirate Shanty by Mark “Cap’n Slappy” Summers (can be sung to the tune of Monty Python’s “I’m a Lumberjack and I’m OK” – or make up your own!

http://youtu.be/KAexZ3M-b-s

Chorus I’m a pirate! That I be! I sail me ship upon the sea! I stay up late – till half past three! And that’s a peg below me knee!

Yo Ho, my friends I have a tale of treasure, plunder, sea and sail my story’s bigger than a whale it gets so deep, ye’ll have to bail.

Chorus I’m a pirate! That I be! I sail me ship upon the sea! I stay up late – till half past three! And that’s a peg below me knee!

I like to fish, I like to fight I like to stay up half the night When I say “starboard” ye go right! Me ma, she says, “Ye look a fright!”

Chorus I’m a pirate! That I be! I sail me ship upon the sea! I stay up late – till half past three! And that’s a peg below me knee!

I’ve got no hand but that’s me hook! I pillage stuff but I’m no crook. Me booty’s in this chest I took. They’ll write about me in a book!

Chorus I’m a pirate! That I be! I sail me ship upon the sea! I stay up late – till half past three! And that’s a peg below me knee!

And that’s all there is to this song. I hope it hasn’t been too long. A pirate’s life might just be wrong So grow up nice and big and strong!

Chorus I’m a pirate! That I be! I sail me ship upon the sea! I stay up late – till half past three! And that’s a peg below me knee!

“Pirate Talk”…

“Drivelswigger” – One who reads about nautical terms too much.

I always investigate things I’m writing about… so this could be me!

“Picaroon” – From the Spanish word for rascal, it was applied to a form of verse about pirates that was satirical or humorous.

As you know… anything concerning kids… would have humor in it…

“Cackle Fruit” – Chicken eggs…

I just had to mention this term… because my brother-in-law from Georgia used to call eggs …”cackle berries”

“Avast” – “Avast Ye!”  – From the Dutch term for ‘hold fast’ and means “Stop and pay attention.”

How many times do you think the teacher said this to this “crew”…

I told you I investigate too much on the subjects I write…

Bare with me and read this joke…ha-ha-ha-ha!…it’s that funny!

A pirate k2289460walked into a bar and the bartender said, ‘Hey, I haven’t seen you in a while. What happened? You look terrible.’

‘What do you mean?’ said the pirate, ‘I feel fine.’

Bartender, ‘What about the wooden leg? You didn’t have that before.’

Pirate, ‘Well, we were in a battle and I got hit with a cannon ball, but I’m fine now.’

Bartender, ‘Well, OK, but what about that hook? What happened to your hand?’

Pirate, ‘We were in another battle. I boarded a ship and got into a sword fight. My hand was cut off. I got fitted with a hook. I’m fine, really.’

‘ Bartender ‘What about that eye patch?’

Pirate, ‘Oh, one day we were at sea and a flock of birds flew over. I looked up and one of them pooped in my eye.’k2070810

‘You’re kidding,’ said the bartender, ‘you lost an eye just from bird poop.’

Pirate, ‘Well it was my first day with the hook.’

They just have a few days left until Christmas Break is over

As Dad went to work… he dropped them off…

Not the oldest one… being almost 18… she has a job… a boyfriend and lots of friends

Not that she doesn’t come over and like being with me… but, does not need to be watched

I give of myself for the day…  when they are over…

That means little cleaning k9574809 cooking  k0589216 but, for them… and thinking of interesting things for us to stay busy…

They arrived a little sleepy and me… still in my PJ’s k10910249

Dad had gotten them pancakes  k9288661 at McDonald’s

They decided on some chocolate milk k7319212for Carson…and strawberry milk k1333550for Kennedy… and to watch some TV… for a little while…

After Grandma got herself together… we headed for our walk to Wal-Mart… We cut through the back woods near our home as all kids do…

130103_002

and look for anything interesting along the way…

Today we saw Lichen growing on some logs since we have had lots of damp weather

They say “YUCK!”… and I say it’s quite pretty

130103_004

 130103_003  (“powder-edged ruffle lichen”)

The path is worn from all of the kids and adults taking a short cut

We cross the back parking lot

130103_013

and spot some interesting looking concrete blocks used for decorative purposes… Carson said they would make a great garage… We have called him “Builder Bob” since he was small… loves to make things!

130103_015

130103_016

We decide to get a movie… at the Red Box… for $2.00… it’s a deal

Kennedy picks “Timothy Green”  51Bh0jHefUL__SX500_ and Carson picks “Madagascar” 61pNq2T3EQL__SX500_

130103_019

They get to pick lunch from the deli… for quickness sake… and then something they will eat for supper… Kennedy picks Popcorn Chicken and Mashed Potatoes… Carson… just BBQ Chicken but, says, ” I want something in the Cake Mix aisle”…

I guess we will be baking!…

He has already indicated PIZZA would be great for his supper!… and of course that’s fine with me… He’s at Grandma and Poppy’s house!

Kennedy decides on Cheeseburger Macaroni Hamburger Helper… How easy can it be!…

and they both decide on corn…”We love corn!”, they both say…

Big Red from the soft drink aisle and then Carson shows me what he wants to bakeChocolate Whoopies… sounds like fun to me!..

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

After I pick up a few things… we decide to head back…

Uncle Doug shows up as a surprise… and says he will take the groceries back in the car… He kinda figured we would have a “few” things to carry…

Thanks , Doug!

130103_021

We sttart walking back and find a new hat (toboggan) with the tags on it… Hate to think it… but, I think someone has stolen this from Wal-MartSo sad!…

130103_010

We see where the fence opening is as we get to the path behind our house…

130103_024

The kids cross over the bridge Poppy has built across the ditch that runs behind our property…

130103_026

We close the gate…and arrive home…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The fresh air has felt good!…

We rest…

We eat…

We make hotels and castles from all of the empty boxes I save…

We make books with stories…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We play on the computer… k3896878

We play soccer ball outside…

We watch “Karate Kid” 220px-Karate_kid … instead of the movie they bought… pretty typical

Carson did watch Madagascar later…

They play on their indoor basketball goal in the hallway…k0213453

to save my breakables…

Suppertime comes and their favorite foods are fixed… with their help in making the Whoopies

I tell Carson to get a wooden spoon to beat the cookie batter… and he proceeds to tell me, “I don’t want splinters in my cookies!”… and gets a plastic spoon…

That makes me chuckle

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Time has gone by fast… and Daddy is coming in the door to pick them up around 9:45pm… He works a funny shift… but, it works with their schedule

They leave with hugs and kisses… and Grandma collapses! k3145675 …

I wonder why???

“Show By Example…Will Never Be Forgotten!”

Gift…

I just talked to my daughter-in-law… she wanted to know if I remembered I was having my grandson tonight?… uhhhh?… I hate to say it, “I had forgotten!”  … not a big deal… I’ll take my grandkids anytime I can… I couldn’t believe a week had passed… I had him last Friday  night… Mom and Dad both having to work… and had promised I’d have him this Friday too… Both working again…

This time I will have Carson

and his big sister, Kennedy

… Great!… Love seeing them both… I say, “They can spend the night if they want”  … Sometimes they do and sometimes they have other plans… I’ve learned to understand that they are growing up and have friends they like being with…

Last week Carson couldn’t spend the night because he had a parade the next day… A parade with his fellow football players … all of the teams riding in trucks  and walking to show their team spirit

He was excited about making some signs to show his support… so Grandma (me)… with her never-ending supply of ideas … helped him make a sign  … We made it out of a box… covered in paper… glued “Viking” pictures … and drew pictures… and painted … put it on a stick provided by his Poppy… and hung gold and purple ribbons  from it… Well, I guess you get the picture… He thought it was just awesome!… Our heads put together can usually come up with some pretty nifty stuff

We made various other smaller signs… and he told me, “Taylor made me one too”… that’s his older sister

I left him to watch TV for a while and got on   … He would come in and get a few supplies from my stash … I had no idea what he was doing until he brought 3 cards to me and asked me, “Will you spell a few words for me?” He’s seven … and he had written most of what he wanted to say by himself… The gist of it was… He had written notes to all three of his coaches telling them how they were the best coaches his team could have… then placed them in envelopes to take to them the next day…

Of course tears came to my eyes of how thoughtful he was… how he had done this all on his own… how “smart” I think he is!… but, of course the main thing is that he has a good heart  … and maybe he’s already learning to show it to others … I just think that’s such a wonderful thing… Way to go Mom and Dad… Sisters… maybe even Grandparents… for showing him the way others should be treated

I always say, “Show by example… and it will never be forgotten!”

Love you Carson!

PS… Mom held the sign high and everyone commented on how great it was at the parade… I knew it all along!

“Stepping Up!”

We went to a special program  today…We arrived at our destination and enthusiastic greeters invited us in and proceeded to tell us where to go … as they stickered us with a little ID tag…As we went toward the doors…other greeters handed us a folded paper program …a Heart of Paw Prints was on the front with the words, “Step Up Program”…I thought I was attending a Kindergarten Graduation for my grandson??? We went in and found our seat in the wonderful bleacher section that all parents and grandparents endure for these school functions…It was crowded with parents, grandparents and relatives waiting to view that sweet face they love so much…It wasn’t long until those cute faces began to parade into the gym…one after the other…Three classes of cute, unique personalities … They weren’t in the traditional cap and gown  like I expected…These little faces had flower petals surrounding them red, yellow, blue, purple, orange and green…but, all smiling with excited, embarrassed grins…All those people looking at them…cameras flashing …voices muttering, “How sweet!”…”So cute”…”There he/she is!”…Then the program began…It was called “Growing Kindergarten Memories”… Songs with hand motions accompanying each one that was sung …All about growing…with help from the sun, rain and good earth…A cute worm song with wiggling students acting out their parts…The final song to the tune of “New York”…”New York” was First Grade” …”First Grade” After much applause the little faces removed their petals and proceeded to line up for their laminated certificates  and cute Cougar Paw Print Pins/Ribbons…They are the “Roby Cougar Cubs”! Applause sounded for each student…Grins abounded!…When the program ended we made our way to our special graduate, Carson …He smiled as he saw us … accepting the “Bear Grad Balloon”   and small gift his Poppy and I had brought him…pictures  were made again…It was great we came but, his thoughts were on the Pizza Party and Inflatable Bouncers  they would be having that afternoon…He was “Stepping UP!”

“My Kids!”

Yesterday, as the kids at school had their little luncheon and awards ceremony … I watched as parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters arrived…Some we know really well…so we were greeted with a hug and smiles…Some, a little more apprehensive …I hope we let all know how glad we were that they had come for their child…to celebrate their achievements …I liked how some of the parents knew each other…either from this year or years past…I find it always good to know people with the same experiences… I’ve gone to meetings where people talked about similar concerns …It is so good to hear someone talk and KNOW what I was feeling and going through…An awareness to have sympathy and the capacity to understand…So, I watched as the joy was shared for the progress of all the students …These parents celebrated together …watching their child’s face  with such love … knowing their children were “Stepping UP!”
