Babysitting at the Laundromat!

Another trip to the laundromat to dry clothes…

k23730644

Almost completed with running all the necessities to move washer/dryer to upstairs from basement…

I am so ready!…

but, have to say… I will miss the friendships made from talking to so many people where we dry our clothes…

As I have said… Lots of refugees in this area… and communication is lacking… but…

when we are there… we make do… expressing our words in a different manner…

A mother dressed in full dress of her country comes in with a baby girl in a carrier… and another daughter… probably 2-3 years old…

She is looking around with a questioning look on her face…

Being a Mom… I could relate already…

She has LOTS of clothes to bring in… but, no one to watch the children… while she does this…

I get her attention… and reassure her… that I will watch them while she gets her laundry in the building…

The kids are smiling… and seem to understand too… although a baby and a toddler…

I smile to let them know that I am just going to be there… to keep them safe…

Mom proceeds to bring in load after load of clothes…

and the little girl starts grinning at me with a comfortable way…

When “baby” girl decides she needs her Mom… I pick her up and hold her and walk around consoling her… as tears begin…

She is seeing Mom coming in and then leaving again and again…

The children had big round suckers to occupy them… k16892939

…a mother’s thought before she came in…

Now… sticky… I offer the mother a clean wash cloth to wet and wipe them off…

She takes it… knowing my meaning… and proceeds to wet the cloth and wash faces and hands…

Mom finally is settled inside and reaches for baby… and then the little girl with big bright brown eyes… scarf wrapped around head like her Momma’s…

reaches her arms for me to take her…

I pick her up… and hold her… and she is quite happy…

Just then my Bobby appears by my side and those little arms reach out to him…

She is perfectly content for him to hold her… as he sits down to wait for the Momma to get finished…

Finally Mom is able to sit down and gather her babies… and with a knowing smile we part…

I have to pull myself up and continue on… or I would definitely lose it…

Kennedy… my 13-year-old Granddaughter is pretty much complete…

she is my fun one to buy for this year…

Grandson Carson… 11 years old… is too…

but, the 20-year-old… a little to do for her…

We  drew names between the adults as I’ve said before…

I can finish that quickly!…

Our dryer being out… has us running to the laundromat…

Interesting experience… for sure…

We have an area in our end of town… where for a better word…. Refugees…

have been placed…k31359787

Not a lot of English is spoken… but, with us having to use these facilities… until probably after Christmas… we will be making contact with people we do not normally see…

It is an awakening adventure…

Language can be… a barrier… but, it doesn’t seem to stop kindness flowing if you allow it…k3886315

My husband having chemo has him wearing his Viet Nam Service Cap a lot… Loss of hair being that side effect…

He is shown such respect…

A little boy and his mother told him, “Thanks for your service”… and this has happened several times…

A lady in clothes that are wrapped around her in so many directions beautiful dark skin k9395755 … offered to help him load clothes yesterday…

and shared her Fresh Cherries with me…

as I see… a token of kindness….

We have shared fabric softener k16449772… quarters… etc. … and smiles abound…

Hearing “God Bless You”…

One gentleman even asked in his own way for instructions on use of washer/dryers…

Not knowing how the machines worked…We communicated enough for him to get the idea… with a gratefulness that shown on his face…f2_face18_c

Maybe… just maybe… we are given these little tests k4275667 from God to check our Humanity…

I hope we passed!
