“When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems as though you would not hang on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn”…

Harriet Beecher Stowe

This was the quote we are to write about today… and what is so strange… is that I had this same quote taped to my desk x11776976

when I worked with Special Education Children at a public school for 30 years…

At that time I didn’t even know the authorkh13339 … and it didn’t matter IT spoke to me…

Every day when I walked into our classroom k6990051 … I knew MY days could never be as hard as it was with the children I worked with…

handicapped physically and mentally…

They brought joy to my life every day I saw them…

k14135446

Their determination…

Their strength…

Their grins…

Their hugs…

Their resilience…

Their innocence…

I had my own struggles as all do.. and to be able to look at my little verse on the edge of my desk… gave me the strength… laughter… love… the focus… and caring

to keep going…

Sometimes it’s just a few words… a few moments of someone’s time… a simple pat on the back… that helps the “tide to turn”…

Summer Solstice

Then followed that beautiful season… Summer.

Filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light; and the landscape

lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood.

~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Summer’s Lot            by: Marilyn Griffin

Sun reaching highest point…

Sunlight direct… overhead…

Ancient celebrations…  anoint…

Written tablets read…

Equator… North of Hemisphere

Sun… seems to stop…

Some may look in fear…

While others look atop…

Summer’s Day… longest now…

Showing off its ware…

Farmers know it’s time to plow…

Winter clothes we bare…

Days becoming very hot…

Following… a Super Moon

This becomes our lot…

Summers heat reaching Noon!

I was leaving… I had planned it for a long time…

With the way the world was becoming… why not!…

I had nothing left here…

He had left … without a word…

I could only imagine he was as fed up with my actions as I was with his…

The life that had been… lost…

Somewhere between the war… his return… and trying to get back that special something we thought we had…

I believe it had just slowly crumbled…

Like the paint on some of the older homes here… The sun had just faded them… they had lost their brightness… their clarity… their strength to stand upright…

No one lived in them… had been abandoned…

Our lives coincided…

Our love tried so hard to hang onto the happiness once shared… the brightness of smiles… the clarity of the shine in our eyes… the hope that it could be renewed…

Neither felt anything… Time to go…

He had just taken the first step…

and now, here I was…

Hitching a ride to ………………. who knows where…

But, my fingers were feeling the breeze… my face was feeling the sun… my heart was beating in my ears…

maybe… just maybe… I would be able to feel again!

“Looking Up”

121104_002

Clouds drift by…

Looking up… I see blue and white…

I give a sigh…

World seems right…

121104_003

Clouds drift by…

Looking up… sun is shining through…

I give a sigh…

Looking bright and new…

121104_005

Clouds drift by…

Looking up… clouds darker now…

I give a sigh…

Trees seem to bow…

I give a sigh…

I made my own “Cards “… to hand out to the members of a group I belong to… It was our Christmas Get-together…

I found pretty Silver Bells“… and attached them to my letter (card)… I had chosen the Christmas Poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow as follows:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This poem was written on December 25th 1864 during the American Civil War by one of America’s greatest writers, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The references to this war were removed when the poem was rearranged and set to music by John Baptiste Calkin in 1872.

‘Christmas Bells’

I heard the bells k10791590on Christmas Day

Their old, familiar carols play,

And wild and sweet

The words repeat

Of peace on Earth , good-will to men!

And thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along
The unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Till, ringing k10791590, singing on its way
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime,
A chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Then from each black, accursed mouth
The cannon thundered in the South,
And with the sound
The Carols drowned
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

And in despair I bowed my head;
‘There is no peace on earth,’ I said;
‘For hate is strong,
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!’

Then pealed the bells k10791590more loud and deep:
‘God is not dead; nor doth he sleep!
The Wrong shall fail,
The Right prevail,

With peace on Earth, good-will to men!

My “closing” was…

Wishing you a joyous Christmas!

May the “Bells of Christmas” ring out for you!
