Not a House Divided Tree… U of L All the Way!

Living in Louisville Kentucky… You would think everyone would be a Louisville Cardinal fan…UL

Not so… the Kentucky Wildcats uk in Lexington draw an immense following also… from Louisville rsidents…

It’s Blue vs. Red… Cards vs. Kats… thumb Uof L vs. Uof K…

actually called “house divided” at timesUK 3 … due to family members taking opposite sides…

I never went to either of these universities… so my loyalty had to be chosen… and I seem to sway for the Cardinal Birds of Louisville…418160_310389649078482_820614589_n

My computer room is decorated with University of Louisville WallpaperCardinals sit here and there… https://babyjill7.wordpress.com/2013/02/15/daily-post-a-room-of-my-own/

So when I decided to put up a little Christmas Tree in this room… for me to enjoy during the season… I decided on a Cardinal theme… using what I had left over in decorations…

White lights already on…

131112_002

red ornaments of course… 131112_004131112_003131112_005

and then a few homemade U of L ones to add that Card theme I started…

I remembered we did this at school… when we made these kind of trees to raffle at our Holiday Bazaar… pretty much “house divided” back then with people buying chances…

I printed Cardinal Pictures on photo paper…

Cut out to look like ornaments…

Punched hole at top… added black ribbon…

Simple… no fuss…and my Jill loves it…

Before Card Ornaments were put on she had found her a spot!

Actually her favorite perch… Low enough to lay beside and look out the window…

Brown County Shopping…

With Fall approaching… a few friends and I started talking about going to Brown County Indiana… or Nashville, Indiana

The Fair Came Last week

Louisville has a big State Fair

Animals, crafts, concerts, food, rides k10322270 , displays…

AlanJackson-Website-new

2013KSF-Logo

We weren’t going this year… The cost of getting in is $10.00 a person + $8.00 to park…

$28.00 just to get in… and then you smell all of the food cooking and want something like a foot long corndog k0087791x13582244… or a funnel cake u13484842 k4242260or a fresh squeezed “Lemonade Shakeup”… k10651277 or ice cream… or a Pork Chop Sandwich k4158059

Well, you get the picture!

There are displays selling everything!

Clothes, jewelery, pot/pans, leather items , glass items, things I’ve never seen before…

It really is quite overwhelming!

I was on Facebook… when a nephew of mine said he had two tickets that included parking for $10.00… 4561v1-max-150x150

That I could handle!

Late in the day… and the last day… but, I wanted to go…

You have to know why…

My husband and I met at the Kentucky State Fair… September 1968… and were married February 1969…

5 months of knowing someone… my Dad was about to have a fit!…

Not that we had just known each other for such a short time… but, that he was leaving for Viet Nam in March….

NOW, I grasp what my Dad was thinking…

but, LOVE conquered and we were married…

So, you see why I “need” to go whenever I can!…

It will be 45 years… this February-2014…

So, we went and walked and looked and talked…

We didn’t eat… because we had a good dinner with our kids before we left… and the only thing I bought was  some eye-glass/ jewelery cleaner

Didn’t need that!… but, it worked so good!

Better than food that would go straight to my behind!… is the way I looked at it!

Our short visit was very nice… the smells… the atmosphere… the memories…

One of my students from when I was at middle school…

She is just a doll… (Special Needs Class)… she was 11- or 12 … now I guess in her 30’s… Her Mom and Dad sell Glass Figurines at the Fair every year…

so good seeing her… She had her face painted with a pretty purple design… her favorite color!

She hollers, “Mrs. Griffin!”… every year when I stop by for a visit…

It didn’t win a ribbon… but, I thought it should have…

Hundreds of quilts on display… just a sampling! of some of the Blue/Purple Ribbon winners…

Donuts for buns on these hamburgers… and lots of stands selling any kind of food you could want…

It was a fun evening… and just long enough…

My dream…

My hope…

My talent put to use…

and just perfectly fits my life at this time…

God is good!… and when the time is rightprayers are indeed answered

I have to give praise for this wonderful happening that has been given mek0266791

I had taken a painting class about two months ago… and while there… I happened to ask the owners, “Do you need someone to teach the painting classes?”…

and they said, “As a matter of fact we will need someone!… in a month or two when we move to a larger location”…

What was so surprising… they were quite impressed with my “natural” talent… and took my phone numbercha0005

310051_478260112253576_233174985_n

Painting class I took with daughter-in-law…

The new location was only a store over from their immediate shop… so the location was ideal for me… less than 15 minutes away from my home…

I was elated!…k6437384 that they seemed interested

and this past week the owner called and wanted to now if I was still interested…

YES!… I wanted to shout!… Yes, indeed!

I bet I was grinning from ear to ear!…k7098880

She wanted me to come in for a class and just paint again along with the customers that had signed up… taking some mental notes as to how they did things…

I had been one other time for a class with a friend of mine… so I was learning their ways already… and liked what I saw…

                                                        Painting I did with friend… 130522_008

We painted a Lake Scene… and I talked to all of the customers just to get a feel of what that would be like…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I love that part of course!… I love people… listening to them… and connecting…

I do think I have a natural teaching ability too…

I’ve never had the opportunity for college… but, the jobs that I have had… have prepared me well…

This company will also be opening a new shop in Elizabethtown, KY… not too far from Louisville… So, I feel I am getting in on the ground floor as to speak…

( There was a movie calledElizabethtown out a few years back… filmed in this small town)

220px-Elizabethtown_poster

The company called KOCH and CO. … have become busier since I first painted with my daughter-in-law over two months ago…

That’s a good thing for sure!

So it will be part-time… Money is good k9179637… will have a helper and all I have to do is teach the class…

How awesome is that! … BLD067144

I will have a couple of practice class sessions to begin with… being critiqued as to where I might need some help…

but, then will be on my own

My goal / dream k8377680being reached in my lifetime…

How blessed I feel!  k1589151

Daily Post: A Room Of My Own

I’m not unhappy with my little room that I have acquired to write my blogs… it was a small bedroom before this…

It’s not exactly like I would want it… but, I have a computer table… chair…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

phone… file cabinet… light… drawers for “stuff”… waste basket

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

a small radio to listen to soft music…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

a retro clock found at my thrift store… just seemed to fit…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

my camera for my photos I want to take… pens/pencils/paper/ruler etc. …  a printer…

A stool for Jill , my cat…  where she can look out of the one window… It let’s in enough light… and gives me a view of our front yard…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A bulletin board with stick pins (made by me)… holds a framed quilt piece that reads…

Families are like old quilts…

Although they tend to unravel at times…

Each can be stitched back together…

With Love!

This was given to me as a gift from my cousin…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I can hear my family near by… and I like that!

An extra chair in here also belongs to Jill… She has claimed it as hers to nap on…

along with her throw…

I upholstered the seat cushion in a red/black plaid ( can’t see in photo)

and made a little skirt for my computer table to match… to hide the hard drive and wires…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

closet holds things I have for the grandkids to play with… paper… boxes… crayons/paint/brushes… wrapping paper/ ribbons… It certainly could be organized better…

Family photos adorn one wall… making me smile every time I see them…

The wallpaper has the wordsUniversity of Louisville in red on a gray background

Some… Even Knew Me!

Memory…

I will be meeting with my fellow High School friends (classmates) for our 45th reunion… tomorrow… at a favorite hang out of ours when we were growing up…

It’s called Mike Linnig’s… a seafood restaurant along the Ohio River in the Southern part of Louisville… A more formal affair was tonight… but, I had a family get together and I really prefer the casualness of this restaurant… that follows the next day…

Typical serving of their fish… wonderful slaw…

By now most of us have retired… have Grandchildren… and have changed quite a bit…

But, as they say, “We’re all in the same boat!”

I’m going to wait until tomorrow to post this… because I hope to have a few photos of my closest friends… to share…

The weather has turned off a lot cooler… actually I got cold later this evening… so blue jeans and a sweater may be the attire… since it’s supposed to be even cooler…

So until tomorrow…

You’ll never guess!… I forgot my camera and also left my cell phone which I could have taken pictures with… on the charger at home…

I was so disgusted with myself… but, I wasn’t going to let this spoil my visit with old friends

I ask myself,How did we get so old?” I don’t feel old… well, at least most of the time… But, looking around we have grayed… put on a few pounds… some of the guys balding… and wrinkles have crept in…

Pleasure Ridge Park High School

One girl says, “I wish I could turn the clock back”… I say, “NO!… only f I could change a few things”…

Our colors were red/black… and the year I graduated we had a great season in football…

Many of us of course recognize each other… hugging… and joking… and saying how glad we are to see each other… It was just so nice… that as many of us that could meet and reminisce

Our 1967 Year Book… with my name engraved on it… since it would be my last…

Since I’ve no recent photos due to my forgetfulness… I have chosen a few of my memories to share… Just bear with me…

Our mascot… the “Panther”

I was totally surprised to be voted to be “Miss Panther” my Senior Year…

An awesome happening for the shy girl that I was!…

This was Mr. Panther and I on a photo shoot…

We had no clue it was for the honor of being Mr. and Miss Panther …

I had pages of autographs… and some of them were even of people I still remember… ha, ha!

My Senior picture…How wonderful! … those teenage years…

Our English Teacher was there today… I told her, “You were one of my favorite teachers!… She smiles… and says, “You don’t have to say that… I’m not going to give you a grade”…We all laughed… and thought how neat it was that we were so close that one of our teacher’s had come to join us…

So 45 years has passed… We left saying we hope we will be able to make it to our 50th…

How special that will be!

45+ Years of Friendship…

We were friends during High School… and have remained friends through long distance phone calls… Facebook… word of mouth…e mail…

Of course we’ve all changed… We graduated 45 years ago!… 1967 to be exact… and our 45th Class Reunion is coming up in October…

We’ve all married… and we all are still married to the same guys… We figured that was one for the record books!… We all have children… Peggy has a son… Leslie has two daughters and a son… Dorothy has two sons… Georgia has a son and I have two sons…We seem to dominate with boy offspring … That’s another common trait we share.

We have a mixture of grandchildren… pretty close in age with a few younger… and we all are so proud!

We met yesterday at Mike Linnig’s…

A seafood restaurant that’s down by the Ohio River in the southern part of Louisville… It was there when we were youngsters and Georgia thought it a good place for us to meet… and it was!… They have outside concrete tables under big ol’ trees …                                           Small wood screen houses if you prefer…                                                                                                                        … a larger meeting building for bigger groups… and of course the restaurant…

This is where we opted to sit… more like a sun room with air conditioning… We hit about 104 degrees yesterday in Louisville … So you see why we didn’t sit outside as we would usually do.

All that are able, will meet here again after our Reunion Dinner at a Hotel… on the following day… Dressy to casual … Take your pick…one or both…I liked that!… Options are good!

Peggy couldn’t make our little get together… due to her husband being ill We missed her!… Georgia came, but her husband had to work … Life goes on even if we do want all to attend… maybe another day… Leslie and her husband live in Winchester, KY… and drove down to be with us… They have children that still live here in Louisville…so they would get to see them later… Dorothy… our planner… and her husband came of course… We live in the south end  as we call it…and yes my husband and I came…

There were hugs and kisses …lots of talk and memories shared… of the past and present… No one recognized Leslie until she talked… She would get the “Most Changed” Award … Dorothy , we think has stayed true to herself in looks and mannerisms…We love that!… She would get the “Remain the Same” Award … Peggy wasn’t there… has changed a lot also… and, is still the same sweet person we remember her as… She would have to get the “Sweetest/Caring” Award … Georgia is still her little independent self and is our philosopher... I just love listening to her stories and watching her expressions… She would have to get the “Most Expressive” Award …and then there comes me… I know how I’ve changed… I used to be the quietest/shyest and would have received that award way back then… but, now “I Love Me” as our aerobic instructor tells us to say to ourselves… so I’m quite the “Chatterbox” and this will be my award to myself … I can always come up with an opinion and an answer… Just ask me!

Our husbands enjoyed themselves it seems by all the chatter coming from their end of the table… and of course us girls could go on forever…

It’s so nice to be able to reconnect after 20 years for some of us… and just pick up like it was yesterday… I call that true friendship

Peggy, Dorothy, Leslie, Georgia, Marilyn…

We plan on making this an annual little reunion… and Mike Lennig’s can remain the spot… It was “just right”

“Do You Hear ?”… I Believe It’s “Thunder!”

We will be having Thunder tonight… but, not because of a thunderstorm… No rain is in the forecast… Cloudy and much colder though… The Thunder will be coming from our 2nd Street Bridge that crosses between Louisville, KY and IndianaZambelli Internationale has been working for days to set up this awesome fireworks display

It is the 23rd “Thunder Over Louisville“… one of the opening ceremonies that starts the Kentucky Derby Festival activities… We’ve been several times… Sitting in the hot sun… rain… cold temperatures… but, we always walk away saying, “It’s was worth it!”…”It was awesome!… You just have to see and hear it in person to understand!”… You feel the ground shaking and your heart beating wildly in your chest…

There’s an Air Show with about 100 planes… sky divers and acrobaticsTwo helicopters fly in around 8:45pm with two gigantic American Flags waving in the night air… spotlighted for all to see… There are “Warthogs”… “F4 Phantoms”… “F22 Raptors”…

One of the biggest crowds was in 2007… it was called “Magic of Thunder“… 850,000 in attendance… In 2006… 800.000 attended “Thunder Country”… and this year… 2012 … it is called “A Star-Spangled Blast”…

There is music blaring… concessions of all kinds… Bring your lawn chairs… a blanket… a cooler with drinks and eats of your own… and be ready for a most enjoyable time!… “The Great Lawn” is where you want to be… down by the Ohio River

Sponsors that provide this terrific show areHorseshoe Southern Indiana Casino”… Louisville Gas & Electric Company”… “Meijer”… “United Parcel Service“… and “McDonald’s also donates a % of their large drink sales…

The admission to most of the festivities is the one-time purchase of a $5.00 “Pegasus Pin”… Thunder included… T-shirts and sweatshirts abound with the Thunder Theme… Some display the Kentucky Derby Festival’s Poster illustrated by Andre’ Freman… depicting our Kentucky Derby beautifully!…

Sorry to say… it is just too chilly for us tonight to attend…but, will be watching it on TV and feeling so proud of our city’s accomplishments in putting on a wonderful… entertaining… “thunderous” show!
