Weekly Photo Challenge: “Growth”

Gift…

I decided to check out my photos and see if there was anything that would depict “growth”…

The Oak Tree seed I found seemed to fit perfectly…

It’s hard to imagine how this small seed grows and grows until it makes The Mighty Oak Tree…

“Acorns into Mighty Oaks

When I leave this world I hope
I leave a better place
Where deeds I’ve done
And paths I’ve trod
Have helped the human race;
Where seeds I’ve sown will blossom still
And trees I’ve planted grow
From acorns into mighty oaks I hope I’ve made it so.

For to leave the world without a trace
No footprints in the sand
No memory in a loved one’s heart,
No mark upon the land,
No legacy to show you cared,
No promises to keep,
Must surely make it hard to face
An eternity of sleep.

After reading a few poems I found about this awesome tree… I realized how special it truly was … to even be able to survive and “grow”…

To land in just the right place…

To survive the unknown surroundings…

To keep growing and finally have roots to push down into the soil…

To be watered by rain  sent to nourish it’s growth

To withstand harsh winters and hot summers…

To be left alone to grow without someone deciding it shouldn’t be …

To finally have enough strength to push its roots deeper and deeper into the Earth

To finally grow enough to stand alone…

To become shade from the sun…

To become a limb big enough to hold a swing

To become a writing tablet for lover’s to mark their place…

To become part of that treehouse built with love…

To become a nesting place for young fledglings  in the spring…

To hold a tinkling  wind chime  blowing in the wind…

To be strong enough for boys and girls to climb… looking out as far as they can see…

Maybe even tie a yellow ribbon around me…

The Acorn

An acorn on an oak tree grew,
The wind around him gently blew,
It whispered to him quite softly
‘Some day from your mother
You will be free
To grow and be a mighty tree’
‘Who’? ‘Me’? A mighty oak’?
The little acorn thought this a joke.

Cruel autumn wind whistled round
And knocked the acorn to the ground.
A little girl passing by
The small acorn she did spy
She picked it up but let it fall
Down a nearby rabbit hole.

All winter long it lay inside
Soon it withered and turned dry

In the springtime a shoot of green
From the acorn could be seen.
It grew and grew, as years rolled by
Soon it reached up to the sky.
So it was a tale come true
A mighty oak
From the acorn grew

One of the Oak Trees in my back yard…

I kept moving back to photograph the top…

and finally got it… about 60 feet tall…

I definitely think this shows “growth!”
