My oldest son turned 42 years old yesterday…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Doug … had the prettiest curly hair…

with brother and our special puppy, Sugar…

We had celebrated with our little family on Sunday evening…

Blowing out his ONE BIG CANDLE… beat putting 42 on the cake!

His Dad… me, his Mom… his brother… sister-in-law and his two nieces and nephew…

This is all he wants!

We are his world!

We make him happy!

so proud of niece graduating from High School…

His Dad has become his best friendOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

They kid a lot… telling corny jokes k13041725… play scratch tickets together… go to the River Boat Casino every now and then…

If his Dad needs a hand around the house … he is right therewith lots of advice!

but, he does know how to do so many things… has that knack of fixing thingsredoing things…

He buys and sells on Ebay3625v1-max-150x150 for extra money(he’s on disability) and does well at it…

He loves to collect items and knows what it’s worth by his investigating on the computer…

Yes, he is smart!… he is loving… he is a good son!…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Doug on right…

with Uncle visiting from Georgia… Rebellious years for sure!

I’m his partner in shopping at thrift stores… peddler’s malls…yard sales…

We have a common bond in loving older things… music… collectibles… movies…

He seems to have lots of confidence in me… although I’ve had to be the “mean” one at times… in discipline… pushing him forward… making him do for himself!

The neighbor lady calls him the “supervisor”… because he loves telling others how to do things… and has great confidence in his opinions…

Most people who know him… love him…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

with cousin at her son’s wedding…

He has a natural ease in talking to all kinds of people…

especially people he feels has had a tough life

I imagine he can relate!

You would never guess… he suffers from bi-polar disorderP_culture_svg

He shys away from certain people at times due to their scrutinizing him …

He doesn’t go to some placestoo crowded… suffocates him and gives him anxiety…

Has a little paranoia… in what others think of him… what others may do… safety issues and doing right all of the time…

He would fight for those he loves with all of his might!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Family is what’s important to him!

He is concerned of his looks and has recently lost around 40+ pounds… Looking good!

Last Birthday…                                    3 months later at Christmas…

He is more content around me and his Dad…

He has become a wonderful person

He loves his nieces and nephew above all things…

with Kennedy, Carson and Taylor…

Wants to do for them and wants them to succeed…

He’s achieved so much in his 42 years… more than he realizes… but, being his Mom I see the accomplishments

Happy Birthday to my first-born… my Doug!

Mother Nature Crashes Wedding Party!

It’s been a busy weekend… Not… that I actually thought of it being Labor Day

I remember asking my Mom what Labor Day was???

She said, “Labor Day is a day for your Dad… who works so hard every day for us…Wallpa_Cwhere we can have food… a nice place to live… a car to drive… clothes… and money for fun outings sometimes”…

to have a day to just rest… and not have to work…k9073603

I was so young… that I thought it was “my Dad’s” own Special Holiday for a while…

Later… understanding that Mom was making it clear for my young mind to understand the answer to my question…

I don’t have to work any more… being retired after working for 40 years…

So I quite understand the reason behind this Holiday…

President Cleveland signed into law  the creation of a National Labor Day… brought about by Alderman Matthew Maguire… credited with the idea of a National Labor Day…

My Holiday this year was not celebrated with a big family picnic031c9801dcnot, even a cook-out…

although the stores were packed with people with this intent on their minds…

My cousin from Tennessee came up … and we were busy every day!…

My husband was sweet enough to let my sister, Vera and myself “Play”…

First day…

Vera got here in time for us to go out for a nice lunchk8638972 at one of my favorite restaurants lately… longhorn-logo Yes, it’s just a steakhouse… but, the preparation of the food is so tasty… the service is so nice… and the atmosphere is quiet enough to be able to talk and hear each other …

We had a nice drink to start off with… A Frozen Raspberry Margarita for me… Cold and Yummy!… and what was called a Black and Blue Margarita for her… Blackberries and BlueberriesSo pretty!k4721825

We ordered my favorite… Creamy Tomato Basil Soup and a Strawberry, Orange, Grape Pecan Salad with Grilled Chicken…k12738225 Raspberry Vinaigrette Dressing…

It was good to catch up even if we do talk about 3 times a week…x30104644

We couldn’t catch up with my sister until we all went to a Great – niece’s Wedding later in the evening… My brother’s Granddaughter1150271_633047090052354_631426888_n They laughed through a few parts… which I thought was endearing… trying to get their rings on and filling a vase with sand…

It was lovely… held outside… in a Garden1352947508with the reception under a large pergola with a canopy roof2315654

Colors being purple and bright wildflowers for bouquets and decorations

It was quite beautiful… 130831_019

This “Family Tree’ was signed by all guests… on the variegated green leaves…

A clever… unique idea for a remembrance…

which they can hang in their new home…

Wonderful appetizer food passed as we waited for Bride and Groom and Wedding Party who were getting photos made…k11646542

The round tables covered in the wedding colors were big enough to hold us 3 + 6 other of our close family members.

The Gardens were dedicated to a Jean Wakefield Cain… by her son…

UNTIL! …

A major rainstorm came through with from what we heard… 60-70 mph winds straight through the reception…

A huge branch was taken down nearby…

Lightning played across the sky… k10740071

It turned very dark

but, the worse… were the windsk11347798

Table centerpiece spilled over… glasses tumbled over… tablecloths blew up over the Wedding Cake… the music people had to get their equipment unplugged… The gifts had to be grabbed up… and out of the rain…

and the Bridal Party which happened to be sitting on the side the storm blew in from were soakedThe bride… groom and all attendants…

It was chaos!

This happened when dinner was just being served…

which I have to say was awesome!…

Laughter started… comments… regrets  stated… checking on this and that…

but, they took it all in stride as the winds downsized and a hard rain continued …

130831_026130831_023130831_025

Some were pretty soaked… but, being on the opposite side of the area saved us… except for a slight mist blowing every now and then…

We estimated about 200 people had an unusual wedding day captured on cell phones k10271420and photographers lights were flashing

k8579510 k10278054to capture some unique shots!

The bride was beautiful… in her lovely gown… and the groom was handsome…

Just thankful the wedding itself was finished before Mother Nature vmo0011 showed up and crashed the party

“My” Favorite Fathers…

I picked my “immediate” favorite Fathers…

We have so many in our BIG extended family

My son Doug… is not a “Father” but, the best Uncle any kids could ever have…

Sometimes “surrogate” fathers are wonderful… the ones who play games, always have movies available, treats on hand and lots of love to give…

Celebrating a Loved One!… Happy Birthday JoNell

A spur of the moment Birthday Celebration brought joy to my heart this evening…

My niece called and says, “We are going over to the cemetery to celebrate Mom’s birthday… k0060188

do you want to go?”…

I immediately said, “Yes!”… I’ll meet you there”…

I quickly called my sister to ask if she was able to go…

Her husband is quite ill… so it’s hard for her to make sudden decisions

He was having a good day… and she met me at my house in minutes…

I got together some silk flowers I had recently bought… and threw in a couple of chairs

Now, you would have to know that our sister that passed 5 years ago would just love this!… This was to be her celebration… she would have been 80 years old

k9431900

Her two daughters, a granddaughter and her two little ones, her son-in-law, a girlfriend of her daughter’s son, one of my sons, my sister and myself…

Daily Prompt: Unknown Caller

You receive a call from an unexpected person. Who is it, and what is the conversation about? Go!

Unexpected caller075d3923

It’s usually a Holiday…. Christmas… Easter… Thanksgiving… etc. …

This young lady used to be a cousin by marriage

She loved my Mom and Dad

After my Dad passed… she would call my Mom on every Holiday… to wish her well…

My Mom was so happy to hear from her…

It was such a treat!…k11011359

They reminisced about my Dad… and exchange news briefly in each other’s lives…

Not… a long conversation… just a “keep-in-touch” phone call…

Linda would say she had a list of names k12930689that she called … and Mom was a priority

I loved her for that!…

This went on for many years until Mom passed… at 98 years…

Linda said she just loved them… “my parents”…

It seems that they showed her love and care

Linda said her list was growing short… so I suggested she add some new names… and I would love it if one of them could be mesca0386

So… now… unexpectedly unknowing… the phone rings… and I’m blessedk0982803 by a sweet voice on the other end… saying, “Just thought I would say hi… and see how you and yours are doing”… k11313815

We exchange a few words update our livesx30104644

Her… about her husband and their son/family…

Our last exchange was about a month ago… and I’ve promised to meet them at one of the last drive-in theatres k6791251 that is still in use in Georgetown, Indiana

I can’t wait!
