You’ve probably read how my cat, Jill… loves the Christmas Tree

Sleeping under it…

Either size will do… our small one or the bigger… “Santa” one…

We have taken everything down and packed it away that says, “Christmas”… except the Santa Tree… Since it is her favorite…  it will be taken down last

Jill had a Christmas Kitty Stocking hanging right along side ours…

I knew I created a Monster Cat last year by introducing her to canned food

But, silly me!… put 3 little cans in her stocking along with some Cat Toys and Catnip

She has been playing with her toysOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

since Christmas Eve… and YES!… she has been eating her canned food Meowing loudly if I only sit out the dryk2833050

I did it to myself… now will have to undo …

Today we decided to pour the catnip from the tube it came in pPETS-7960504r200… into a sock of mine and tie it up…

Catnip being a perennial herb belonging to the mint family… When the leaves are crushed… a special oil is released…

It triggers a pleasure center in the cat’s brain

It’s perfectly safe and not addictive

The effect lasts depending both on the cat and how much the cat has inhaled

Jill loved it!

She has thrown it n the air…

She has tossed it…

Chased it…

Rubbed it…

She has laid on it…

Laying her head on it like a pillow!

Oh, my… another habit I have to undo…

Why do I do that??? …

Probably like my kids used to be… spoiled!…

And now it’s my Grandkids and Cat!…

Will I ever learn???… Probably NOT!

“Jealous Cat”

I adopted her after my Mom moved in with us… Mom was 92… So that’s how I can keep up with her age… Her certificate says that she was 8 weeks old when found… Brought into the Humane Society on July 18, 2001… She was a stray … a DSH breed…

My Mom has since passed… at 98 years old in 2007… but, I still have my “Jill”

DSH breed means… ordinary house catDomestic Shorthair

Now, I will differ with the “ordinary” because she’s mine!…

and I’m crazy about her!…

People have asked this week, “How can you like a cat that did that to you?”…

How can you keep her?…

How can you love on her like you do?…

How can you still rub her and want her to be your pet?…

You see… She bit me! not a nibble… not in playing She meant it!… and I have the marks to prove it…

As I’ve said, “She is my cat… she likes my son …she likes my husband… but, she loves me!” …

My husband says, “No way!”… a cat can’t love… she  is just a cat!…

After having her for so many years… I thought I’d learned her ways…

I know when she’s hungry and wants food

I know when she wants to go outside

I know when she needs the door opened to her potty

I know when she wants to play “hide and go seek”…

I know when she’s sleepy and just wants to be left alone

I know when she needs the blinds opened where she can look outside

I also knew she was a little jealous at times of anyone getting too close to me… even my husband

So… as my husband and I were watching TV the other night… She proceeds to get in-between us and start giving us the evil eye… as I call it… The ears are laid back… she stares… and there’s a different look about her body…

And then she pounced!…

She jumped at me and bit the top of my hand and instinct took over…

me screaming with pain

my husband swatting at her with a not too easy hand…

me jerking away as his hand hit mine instead of the cat…

as she ripped my hand across the top with her teeth

She runs! … I’m wrenching with a pain I’ve never felt before…

and my husband is just wondering how I could be in so much pain!…

He doesn’t realize he has hit me with full force of wanting to stop the cat from biting me…

Jill has ran away as fast as she could… plainly knowing something has happened bad and she must have had some part of it…

I’m scrubbing my hand with soap and hot water … because I’ve read a cat bite can be very dangerous… As much as I love her… I know she does some disgusting things sometimes…washing ( licking) her body all over … using her potty… and just being outside

By morning my hand has started swelling… I’m getting a chubby hand and by the next morning chubbier fingers

I take off to the Emergency Room

My story is quite funny… but, when said… It sounds like I have a deranged rabid cat … with vicious sharp teeth … and an abusive husband who likes hitting me on just my left hand

Of course they know better… and just asked if Jill is up on her shotsYes, she is !… I proudly say…

They write down a version of what I said… it did need wording quite right… and then proceeded to baby me with … “you poor thing”… and “How old is your baby?’… and “Exactly when did this happen?”…

I was told how dangerous cat bites are… Humans being #1… Cats #2… and Dogs #3…

I was given a tetanus shot… a humdinger of an Antibiotic shot in my caboose… and a prescription for more “horse”pill antibiotics to take twice a day for 10 days…

This was after an x-ray of my hand in several positions… Thank goodness nothing was broken… I was worried about how forceful the blow had been…

Later I was glad I got the blunt of the force… or my cat might be in “Kitty Heaven” now…

Of course my husband would never hurt me… this was purely accidental… but, I do know… no one… human or cat… better hurt me… because he would take my side every time!…

My hand looks like it’s starting to go down a little… a little tenderness on my arm and fanny due to shots… but, I do think I’ll survive

I am now known as having Cat Scratch Fever

Almost half the cat population carries the disease

and the bacteria  is contained in the cat’s saliva

A very powerful bacterial diseaseBartonella henselae medical name…

and if it doesn’t clear up… I will have to have surgery to remove all of the infected area

No way!… I’m taking all of my medicine … keeping the area clean  and I’m not going to sit too close to my hubby from now on when Jill is around…

I’m now aware of just how jealous she can be…

“Duck Lingo”

Memory…

We had a pet duck named Shirley  when I was young… She had pretty white feathers with reddish/orange webbed feet and beak … A good size duck that quacked loudly like ducks do, ran around the yard pecking at the ground, eating scraps my Mom threw out to her along with the feed bought for her… She loved my Mom probably because of just that… feeding her! … We got along OK… I just let her be… After being chased by a neighbor’s pet rooster I was a little bit leery of her… I loved watching her though… Shirley swam in the creek behind our house waddled along behind my Mom… seemed to talk to her in “Duck Lingo”… and my Mom talked to her like she knew what she was saying… My Mom decided one day that we needed to give Shirley to a man who owned what we called “The Pony Farm”… This farm had ponies  which I thought were just the most wonderful pet you could own, a buffalo , ducks, geese, a dog… probably a cat  and I’m not sure what else… more than likely chickens and a rooster or two… It was up on a hill not too far from our home… maybe a couple of miles… He had a big pond for her to swim in… acres to fly around… and other animals for friends … and if you’ve ever been around ducks they can be quite messy at times… I imagine that’s why Mom was giving her away…The man had agreed after Mom talked to him and so it was up to her and I to transport her to the farm… Mom picked her up and got her in the car… I think we put her in the trunk… It was just a short ride… We arrived at the gate  that was at the end of the long driveway winding up the hill to the house and barn… Mom lifted her out and put her over the fence…We said our good-byes to “Shirley” and got back in the car… As we were pulling away… I couldn’t believe my eyes… Looking in the rear view mirror  … “Shirley the Duck” was running as fast as her little webbed feet could go down the road behind our car… She was quacking and flapping her wings … I guess trying to yell and get our attention in “Duck Lingo”… “Please don’t leave me here… I’ll be good… I won’t make anymore messes… I’ll eat whatever you give me… I won’t chase anyone… Just please take me back home with my human Momma … I know she loves me and I love her!”    So we did! (Quack! Quack!)
