Weekly Photo Challenge: Backward

All I seemed to be able to get were the backs of my Football Player Grandson, his Mom and Dad…

I guess they were too busy to look around…

Carson is always attentive to the coaches…

“Just Do It!”

Saturday was a busy day!

My son had signed up all three of the kids (my grandkids) in a 5K race

I understand that’s about 3 miles

He had seen a sign up at a church near their subdivision…

It was to be part of the Spring Festival  k9465810 of the small town they had moved to recently…

They love the atmosphere of it…

He runs… but, hasn’t lately due to moving, etc. …

So, no doubt he was all up for it!

and they were all willing!…

Ages 8, 11 and 18… and a cousin that’s 20 wanted to run too…

They picked up their numbers… and were up bright and early

It was a spur of the moment thing… That’s what I like about Brian… Just Do It!‘… is his motto… like the NIKE commercial

and Raven, their cousin… seconds later…

Finishing was the objective…

A little running… a little walking

And, “They Did It!”… k3166575

They were proud I could tell… as I talked to them… when we met later that evening… for Kennedy’s Birthday Partyk6502549

The oldest was truthful in saying, “I probably won’t do it again!”… but, with graduating k6351412 from High School and College on her mind… I can understand…

The other two… probably would be willing to go for it another time…

especially if Daddy says, “Let’s Do It!”

Brian informed me that the girls actually slept later… and were awesome…

He was pleased to get some shuteye… after a full day with the kids!

“Track Those Minutes!”

I keep thinking of trying to get into an exercise regime …but, one problem…I hate the word exercise… and to commit to something is so not me… I like to walk… so I thought I might try again to start walking in the park … something to look at while doing this thing I hate… I used to do that and even enjoyed it… of course it won’t be long until it’s cold outside … then rainy … and then snowy … Do you hear me?… because I hear myself… Making excuses… So I’ll keep thinking about it and maybe come up with a nice warm, safe, interesting, peaceful place to try to exercise…but, now I think I’m going back to bed … it’s just been too much exercise on my brain so early this morning… Maybe tomorrow

“My Kids”!

Since we were supposed to set a good example for our students…we tried to have some kind of exercise routine  for our class…We watched videos geared for our kids to watch and do some fun, funky exercises … They were sometimes into it and sometimes not … We would go to the gym and walk a certain amount of laps and then play basketball , jump rope or play a game of kickball… Usually the more organized game of kickball  was met with more interest than anything… Our students also had gym(PE) classes for quite a few years…but, then can you believe it?… they discontinued it… No wonder our kids are obese and lack energy … Now, of course they are seeing how wrong they were and are trying to come back with what they want us to believe is a … “Magic Cure”… If they had left things alone to begin with…we would still be enjoying some exercise…we just called it “playing”  dodge ball, jump rope, chase, pitch and catch, etc. … No wonder kids balk about exercise, just like me…they think of it more as a job than something fun to do… Don’t forget to track how many laps you made…how many minutes it took you to do that… how fast you are… See what I mean???

Go Vikings! – GO!

Just checked on my Grandson …second night for Football Practice Hard time last night…lots of running, high-stepping, hot …new group of kids…new coaches …”Oh,oh!”, I hear my granddaughter  saying …”What?”, I ask…”Carson is going to cry”…”How do you know?”, I ask…”Because he’s got that look on his face”, she explains…and then I saw it!…as he came off the field with his little face looking so sad…so upset…and holding his stomach…He’s sobbing that uncontrollable sob …can hardly talk…I hate that feeling…but, to see my Grandson in such anguish…I could hardly bear it…He keeps saying his stomach hurts …through his sobs and tears…I hold him on my lap, get him cooled down with water and tell him just to relax…and try to calm down…He finally gets it together, but is NOT going back out on that field this night…Even after seeming to feel much better…he is emphatic about not returning to the group of other boys still practicing …He does though …go up to get directions twice…so I felt he was trying…and tell him so…probably all he could do …He just felt so bad!…He said he would come tomorrow…but, no more tonight…

So tonight I called to check on him…His big sister said, “He did just fine…practiced the whole two hours”…I hear him in the background…talking… I ask to speak  to him…”I’m so proud of you, I say…I heard you did well!”…I tell him I love him and Poppy is proud of him too… He responds with “I love you too!”…I hear in his voice that he is happy and feeling fine tonight…No more stomach aches …I guess we’ll be cheering on Carson and his Viking ” team  in the weeks to come…

“My Kids!”…

“My Kids”  had handicaps as you have probably ascertained from all my writings…These handicaps…call them physical, mental or just plain butterflies in the stomach  are real…Sometimes these handicaps have to be addressed …sometimes these handicaps have to be handled with kid gloves …sometimes these handicaps have to be hugged and loved without judgement …We all have some sort of handicap…I saw that many years ago…and after working with the children I did…I came to recognize the symptoms…That’s when you have to make a judgement call…just like a coach at a little fellows football game …You had to decide if the child needs a push to get past a roadblock …or if the child just needs a little prodding…to set them on track…or was it time to give in and just love  them…accept them for their disability at the moment …I hear love can cure a lot of things…praise gets you further than ridiculing…encouragement gives the person a feeling that he/she can do it …and love   lets the person know you care about them beyond the handicap that has popped up in their life… so we cheer the person on and in turn the handicap will diminish
