Honey… Anyone???

Gift…

I had the program at TOPS  last night… that’s my weight loss group…

I had been reading about the benefits of “Honey” …Very interesting!…

So I decided to share what I had found out…

It has significant natural antioxidant properties…

It can give a natural relief to respiratory ailments

Improves energy and stamina

Helps to heal wounds and known to combat infection…

Reduces stress

It is soothing to minor burns and helps prevent scarring

Honey dates back to 2100 B.C. …

It was the first and most widespread sweetener  used by man…

It was used as a form of currency , tribute or offering…

It has been used in making cement, furniture polish , and varnishes

While the bee  is doing its business of honey production.. it is also performing the vital service of pollinating fruits, legumes, vegetables and other food-producing plants…

Honey bees have been known to travel as far as 40,000 miles and visit over 2 million flowers    to produce one pound of honey

Honey is the only one food that includes all the substances necessary to sustain life, including water  …

After giving my program I shared a recipe that uses Honey in its ingredients…

“Party Punch”

1-1/4 cup honey

1- cup lemon juice

2- cups boiling water

4-cups cranberry juice cocktail

2- cups orange juice

1- quart ginger ale

Dissolve honey in boiling water. Chill. Combine all remaining ingredients except ginger ale. Chill. Before serving, add ginger ale. Makes 20 servings.

Everyone tasted it and had lots of yummy reviews

You can definitely taste the Honey in it… slightly tart… but, sweet enough for sure and very good!…

as I am sitting here drinking the last glass I brought home…

and I think I’ll leave out the “other ingredients”   some suggested…

They are so funny!

“Jelly, Honey, Maple Syrup”…Maybe a little “Borax”???

Gift…

I sneak into my kitchen … turn on the lights… and look, hoping not to find anything!… Unusual???… Not when it’s an army that has invaded my territory!… They are so tiny… about 1/8″ long… They can pick up 20X their own body weight … They compare them to a second grader picking up a car!… How’s that for strength!… They have no ears …They only hear by feeling vibrations  through their feet… Getting an idea who I’m talking about yet? … They have no lungs … They breathe through tiny holes all over their bodies…. There species number in the 12,000’s!… Awesome, huh!… Some of their names are “Fire” , “Argentina, “Carpenter”  , “Pavement”  and my culprit is known as the “Odorous House Ant”… yes!…These tiny creatures… ANTS!  …have come looking for water and food… or the rain has made them find refuge in my kitchen!…GO AWAY!, “I say!”…I hear they have a home or colony as they like to call it… When they come into my “colony” they leave trails to get back home… So to eliminate them I have been looking for remedies… Of course there are pesticides…but, I was thinking more of a “homemade” remedy…I’ve read about them and have decided to try this recipe… So good, they might like it and take home some to their fellow comrades…

Homemade Ant Bait Recipes

Sugar

2 TBS Boric Acid (Borax)
Jam (or Jelly, Honey , Maple Syrup)

  • Mix the boric acid with the jam or jelly to make a paste. Slather it on a piece of paper, a plate or in a covered container with holes. You may have to adjust amount of Boric      Acid if the ants seem to eat up the bait like crazy, but are getting fatter from it instead of dying.

Important: When baiting the ants to bring poison back to the nest, resist the temptation to kill them when you see them. You want them to live and take big juicy pieces of poisoned bait back to the nest for the rest of the colony to feast on.

So… the battle has begun!… Although… as of this morning… no signs of my enemy … but, they can be quite sneaky… just hope they don’t try carrying me away… It would take quite a few of them for that job!
