Hot Tea… Warm and Satisfying!

This winter hot tea x17649960 has become one of my favorite drinks… Now, I love that first cup of coffee in the morning… but, after that other liquids take over…

I should be drinking more water… and I find that quite easy in the summertime… but, colder weather requires warm, satisfying drinks…

A cappuccino k13125489 every now and then… hot chocolate k3530700sometimes… fruity flavored hot teas… and I must have real sugar…

I bought my sister a Tea Pot since she started drinking hot tea also… and gave it to her for Christmas…

Sorry to say… it was accidentally broken…

It sits on her counter now as a decorative piece… since her daughter glued it back as good as she could… but, unable to hold hot tea anymore…

My cousin and I looked for her one on our trip to Illinois to no avail at an antique store…

But, after telling our cousin who we were visiting… she gave us one to take to my sister… Wasn’t that sweet!… and so special since it came from her…

I didn’t have one of my own… so I decided to keep my eye out during my thrift store Antiqu_Clooking trips… and today I found one I really like…

Not too big… just enough for me… about two cups…

I’ve already used it… Isn’t it pretty?

I need to find me a pretty Tea Cup k4495201

next… One with pretty flowers… thin… dainty china… It will make the hot tea taste even better!…

Warm and satisfying…

Rabbit Tobacco…or Chamomile Tea…

Winter sets in with it’s cold days… and my taste buds reach out to Hot Teak3719087

It can be plain… but, I must have a little sugar k4064426 … which I prefer… or sweetener… if I’m trying to cut calories… and sometimes a spoonful of honey k11423077is just right…

It warms my body… has such a relaxing feeling… and sitting at my computer or watching TV… or reading… it is just right!…

I’m sure there are many brands better… but, I’d say these are pretty good

I had heard it’s a calming tea… for “quiet moments”…

I slept like a baby!…

Of course drinking Chamomile Tea brought up memories of my Mom telling me the story of Peter Rabbit…by Beatrix Potter

Just loved that story being read by my Mom… actually… she told it from memory… I wasn’t drinking the tea… but, her voice was just as soothingk0299168

“What’s Growing In Your Garden?”

I never knew I was growing a hallucinogenic , mind altering plant…Interested now, aren’t you?…At the beginning of summer I went to Wal-Mart  and bought some perennials ( grow, bloom and have to be replanted the following year) plants…just leafy plants in shades of deep purples and greens …The leaves grow bigger and bigger and this year they got extremely tall…about 3ft. … They must have loved that moisture holding Miracle Grow soil I bought…and I water almost every day…I had wanted a tree like plant for each side of my front door…Well, I got it…they grew so big I can hardly open my door… You are  still wanting to know what is the name of the plant…I’ll tell you in a minute…Relax…These plants are native to Tropical Africa , Asia, Australia , East Indies and the Phillipines…They do grow a pretty small purple flower , but if you keep the flower pinched off…the plant will continue to grow taller and taller…As of now, I haven’t had to do that…I did do that to the ones I had in the past…In southern Mexico the Mazatec Indians consume the plant…either by chewing the leaves or making a tea out of it…It gives them a very mild relaxed feeling and hallucinogenic effect …”mind altering” as they say… These people cultivate (Entheogens) for spiritual and ritualistic use…They are very secretive and protective  of their practices…I was just surprised to learn this information about a plant I grow every year for its beauty!…The name is probably something you have heard of…Coleus Blumei or as I call it just “Coleus” Have you got some of them in your flower bed?… Have you been feeling a little more relaxed? …Is tea brewing  in your pot right now?…Have you been seeing pretty colors? …Just wondering!

My Coleus…

“My Kids!”…

At school I worked in an afternoon program, called “21st Century” It was a program designed to help kids  improve their grades…math and language arts skills…The students were referred by teachers …I was asked to do an arts /crafts class to add some fun to the program…you know, cake is good, but adding frosting to it ….it’s even better!…Kids like to have fun…So I came up with ideas every day…I scoured the internet which is loaded with ideas…maybe changed them a little from time to time…So during our summer program we grew “Grass Head”   people…Sounds funny?…well, they were!…It didn’t take them long to grow…which is what’s so neat…and they all are so different looking…This is because of how each student decorates the cup it is in…whether you make it a girl or a guy…how much hair (Grass) actually grows…and how you decorate the face… We surely had some groovy “Grass Heads”… As people came in and looked at all these little heads they began to laugh and smile …and it wasn’t from drinking  any strange Coleus tea!

How to make “Grass Heads”…

Materials

2 tablespoons grass seed

Nylon stocking foot

1 cup potting soil

Plastic yogurt container

Water

2 googly eyes

Permanent marker

Double-sided tape

Card stock, craft foam, and so on, for clothing

Instructions

Spoon the grass seed into the stocking foot, and the potting soil on top of the seed. Tie a knot in the stocking, leaving the excess fabric hanging. Fill a yogurt container halfway with water and place the stocking head on top with the nylon tail in the water to serve as a wick. Attach googly eyes to the head and draw on a mouth with permanent marker. To decorate the yogurt container, tape on clothing made from card stock or other materials.

Tips:

Be sure to check the water level in the yogurt container every day, keeping it at least half full.
