Sleepover Movie…

The grandkids were over last Saturday night for a sleepover

We call it that…

I hadn’t seen them for a couple of weeks… so I was hungry to see them… I’m sure you know what I mean…

I could almost eat them up… I love them so much!…

They are growing in leaps n’ bounds

Kennedy is starting Middle School and Carson is in the 3rd Grade

and they love school…

Both are attending new schools this year… (actually they went back today)… since they moved this past spring…

I’ll have to call and check how it went…

Back to sleepover…

I had rented a video from REDBOX… $1.00 movie rental that is in stores and fast food places…

It was quite intense…

Maria Belon  and her real family who endured this tragedy…

You almost held your breath as you rode out this storm with them…

The wall of water…

The debris….

The destruction…

The pain of bodily injury…

The dead…

The struggle for clean water/food…

The people fighting to find out about their loved ones…

It kept you on the edge of your seat…

I believe all of our hearts were beating fast… and were relieved with the ending…

The effects were outstanding!…

After the movie went off… (we had already eaten hamburgers for dinner)… A light snack and drink came and then sleep came pretty easy…

They didn’t get up until 9:30am… watched cartoons… and then I fixed blueberry pancakes… bacon and sausage… Their choice…

I have pancake forms in the shape of a Rooster, Hen and a Barn…

So, I surprised them

Carson had asked, “What are we were going to do today?”…

I was going to make homemade pretzels with them… but, I think he was thinking of something more like outdoor funpassing the football… kicking the soccer ball or a walk to Wal-Mart…

and neither happened …

Mom and Dad came earlier than usual… Grocery shopping on their mind… and then to the park to play basketball

That seemed to appeal to both of them…

So… the pretzels will wait until next Saturday… as Kennedy suggested… when another sleepover is planned…

I had Carson for two nights… I love it when they ask to stay… and seem to enjoy whatever we do…

From just lying around watching their favorite TV showsx12965119eating of course…”bottomless pits” at timesx17632026 … playing catch with a football in the backyard… or kicking the soccer ball

Sometimes just sitting in the swing k4398182or on the glider just enjoying the quiet…

Mom takes them to the poolu21645540 … so when I asked Carson if he would like to go to the YMCA to swim… he opted for the park instead… even turned down the offer of going to the movie theatre dse0010

Group of kids at park for last day of school…

loved their T-shirts

Last night the Iroquois Amphitheater in the same park had one of their free movie nights

The kids had picked this date because they were playing…”Ghostbusters220px-Ghostbusters_cover

… Kennedy had seen it at a friends but, Carson had not seen it

We gathered a few drinks/snacks and sweatshirts… Sometimes gets cool… The movies don’t start until 8:30pm due to it needing to be dark

We arrived to find “The Ghostbusters” and their vehicle right in front of the entrance

130610_001Ghostbusters

We took a picture and then proceeded in to find that we are not supposed to bring in outside food/drinks… But, for some reason they were overlooking thisEveryone it seemed… had brought a drink of some kind… and snacks

I imagine they understood… We were here because it was FREE… and had “kids” with us… and it was “outside”…

They gave away 3 prizes using our admission tickets k3867483to draw the winners out…

and the weather was just right…

Popcorn was the only item boughtk7486159 … You smell it… you gotta have it!…

I love the way the audience gets into the movie with being outside…

Hollering “Ghostbusters”! … when they asked… “Who ya gonna call?”…

Carson said as we left… “ain’t ‘fraid of no ghosts!” k1417749 like said in

the movie…

Time & Place

You’re young. You are standing in front of a shop window watching something on the black and white television inside. A woman grabs your hand and runs down the street, pulling you along…

…………….

Save Me Lassie!                      by: Marilyn Griffin

My nose was cold… but, I didn’t mind…

Mom had wrapped me up tight with a sweater… a coat… my fuzzy hat and my muff for my hands…

It was almost Christmas… and we were window shopping

We had visited Santa at his workshop at Sears… I had asked for a new baby doll… One that drank and wet…

Oh, if I could only get one… I would be the happiest little girl…

Shop after shop had “Christmas Specials”… and the sidewalks were very crowded…

The TVs always grabbed our attention as we passed in front of the display windows…

These wonderful machines that not only talked… but, showed pictures… just like a talking story book…

I was engrossed with the show on one of these TVs … Lassie… my favorite… Collie dog with that cute boy named Jeff…

His Mom… they called her Ellen and I just loved the Grandpa… I think they called him George every once in a while…. but, mainly Gramps…

Lassie was running to get Jeff… He had found someone in trouble…

I felt Mom take my hand… and pull very hard…

That was not like her… I looked up to see why she was wanting me to hurry so…

But, it wasn’t Mom… A strange lady had my hand and was pulling me hard down the sidewalk… almost into the street…

I look around… searching for my Mom… and could see her still standing at the window… probably engrossed as I was with the TV show…

I tried to jerk my hand… but, the lady kept pulling me further down the street… I finally got my senses… and began to holler, “Let me go!… What do you want?”…

The woman glanced down and a funny expression ran across her face…

“What?… Who?… are you?”, she is saying…

I’m Katherine… “I want my Mom”, I said… I think I was choking up a little… feeling a little frightened… and not understanding…

“Where is she?”, asked the lady…

“Back where you grabbed my hand… in front of the department store window”, I said… as I pointed back in that direction…

“Oh, my gosh!”, cried the lady… I believe she was as scared as me!…

“But, where is Nancy?”, she asked…

“Who’s Nancy?”, I asked…

“My little girl… She has a hat and muff just like yours!”…

“I was hurrying to catch the bus down the street before it left… which I’m sure it has by now”, explained the lady… who seemed to be quite nice… now that she was talking to me…

She grabbed my hand again… a bit gentler this time… and started running with me in tow back down the street to the department store front…

We saw my Mom standing there with a frightened look on her face and holding the hand of a little girl…

She almost looked like me with her furry hat and muff hanging around her neck…

We all burst into tears as we saw each other!…

Me and Mom hugging…

The lady and Nancy hugging…

So glad to be with our own Moms… and listening to the explanation of the lady who had grabbed my hand by mistake…

We were just so happy… and hysterically started laughing… as Lassie barked on the black and white TV set in the window of the store…

Evidently all were safe and sound… just like us…

Memory…

A day with my Grandkids is the best day I can have!…

531063_177079579103462_658266568_n-001

They just have a few days left until Christmas Break is over

As Dad went to work… he dropped them off…

Not the oldest one… being almost 18… she has a job… a boyfriend and lots of friends

Not that she doesn’t come over and like being with me… but, does not need to be watched

I give of myself for the day…  when they are over…

That means little cleaning k9574809 cooking  k0589216 but, for them… and thinking of interesting things for us to stay busy…

They arrived a little sleepy and me… still in my PJ’s k10910249

Dad had gotten them pancakes  k9288661 at McDonald’s

They decided on some chocolate milk k7319212for Carson…and strawberry milk k1333550for Kennedy… and to watch some TV… for a little while…

After Grandma got herself together… we headed for our walk to Wal-Mart… We cut through the back woods near our home as all kids do…

130103_002

and look for anything interesting along the way…

Today we saw Lichen growing on some logs since we have had lots of damp weather

They say “YUCK!”… and I say it’s quite pretty

130103_004

 130103_003  (“powder-edged ruffle lichen”)

The path is worn from all of the kids and adults taking a short cut

We cross the back parking lot

130103_013

130103_012

130103_014

and spot some interesting looking concrete blocks used for decorative purposes… Carson said they would make a great garage… We have called him “Builder Bob” since he was small… loves to make things!

130103_015

130103_016

We decide to get a movie… at the Red Box… for $2.00… it’s a deal

Kennedy picks “Timothy Green”  51Bh0jHefUL__SX500_ and Carson picks “Madagascar” 61pNq2T3EQL__SX500_

130103_019

They get to pick lunch from the deli… for quickness sake… and then something they will eat for supper… Kennedy picks Popcorn Chicken and Mashed Potatoes… Carson… just BBQ Chicken but, says, ” I want something in the Cake Mix aisle”…

I guess we will be baking!…

He has already indicated PIZZA would be great for his supper!… and of course that’s fine with me… He’s at Grandma and Poppy’s house!

Kennedy decides on Cheeseburger Macaroni Hamburger Helper… How easy can it be!…

and they both decide on corn…”We love corn!”, they both say…

Big Red from the soft drink aisle and then Carson shows me what he wants to bakeChocolate Whoopies… sounds like fun to me!..

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

After I pick up a few things… we decide to head back…

Uncle Doug shows up as a surprise… and says he will take the groceries back in the car… He kinda figured we would have a “few” things to carry…

Thanks , Doug!

130103_021

We sttart walking back and find a new hat (toboggan) with the tags on it… Hate to think it… but, I think someone has stolen this from Wal-MartSo sad!…

130103_010

We see where the fence opening is as we get to the path behind our house…

130103_024

The kids cross over the bridge Poppy has built across the ditch that runs behind our property…

130103_026

We close the gate…and arrive home…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The fresh air has felt good!…

We rest…

We eat…

We make hotels and castles from all of the empty boxes I save…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We make books with stories…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We play on the computer… k3896878

We play soccer ball outside…

We watch “Karate Kid” 220px-Karate_kid … instead of the movie they bought… pretty typical

Carson did watch Madagascar later…

They play on their indoor basketball goal in the hallway…k0213453

to save my breakables…

Suppertime comes and their favorite foods are fixed… with their help in making the Whoopies

I tell Carson to get a wooden spoon to beat the cookie batter… and he proceeds to tell me, “I don’t want splinters in my cookies!”… and gets a plastic spoon…

That makes me chuckle

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Time has gone by fast… and Daddy is coming in the door to pick them up around 9:45pm… He works a funny shift… but, it works with their schedule

They leave with hugs and kisses… and Grandma collapses! k3145675 …

I wonder why???

Mr.Williams…You Will Be Remembered…

Memory…

I too, have to pay some kind of tribute to one of my favorite singers

Andy Williams… passing away at age 84… this week…

I stopped to think of how old I was… compared to him… He born in 1928 and me in 1949… 21 years difference… So, yes… I probably had a small crush at that time on this handsome guy singing just to me on the small black and white  TV screen in our living room…

I was probably around 12-13 years of age when I was enthralled with his wonderful songs of… Moon RiverDays of Wine and RosesBorn Free …Love Story  and my favorite Christmas song… It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!…

I couldn’t wait for his show to come on… His specials were amazing to me… especially the Christmas ones… dressed in sweaters … singing with all that artificial snow  falling all around … his lovely family

And when he introduced the Osmonds to our little TV set… I was hooked again…

Donny and little Marie … Singing their little hearts out… It was so fun!…

I was able to go watch one of his Christmas specials here in Louisville… and I enjoyed every minute of it!…

You left a lot of Happy Memories for people of my generation, Mr. Williams

God Bless!
