When I was young… 6-7 years old… Sunday mornings were special…
I wished we did… but, sometimes I would go with a friend …
I dreamed of my Mom and Dad sitting with me in a pew … singing hymns … reading from the Bible … and listening to the preacher tell stories (sermons) about the life of Jesus…
My Mom and Dad were brought up in church… but, since my Dad had to work on many Sundays… they just never got acclimated to Sunday Go Meetings…
I didn’t think they were bad because of this… My parents were the best!… but, it was a child’s want…
I grew up in a loving home… with the Goodness of the Lord given to me… but, not in a church going way…
I was taught right from wrong…
Obedience…
Honoring your Parents/Adults…
No cussing…
Love your neighbor…
Be kind…
Use the talents you were given… work hard…
Don’t steal or lie…
Help others when you can…
Don’t talk disrespectful…
Sounds very similar to what God laid down as The Ten Commandments…
King James Version |
And God spake all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. |
1.
Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
2.
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.
3.
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
4.
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
5.
Honour thy father and thy mother.
6.
Thou shalt not kill.
7.
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
8.
9.
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
10.
So… my Sunday’s were a little different… but, I loved them so…
I woke up to the Sunday Morning funnies in the Big Edition of our newspaper…
as I ran up to the paper box on our county road in my pajamas…
I read all I wanted before anyone else got up…
It was quiet and peaceful…
Mom got up next…(sometimes me waking her up)…
She made sure the house was warm in the winter…
by adding coal to the furnace… She did it better than Dad… due to being a stay-at-home Mom…
The smells… I can imagine them now… wafted through the air…
eggs… bacon/sausage… homemade biscuits or toast… gravy… sometimes fried apples or hominy…
Coffee for the adults… sometimes for me… fixed with lots of milk and sugar…
Milk… Chocolate sometimes if a can of Hershey’s Syrup was in fridge…
It was a day of rest…
No deep cleaning…
Friends/family coming over…
Mom cooking again… a big dinner of fried chicken or a roast…
Always enough for anyone who came by…
Sunday night TV… sitting next to Mom or Dad on the couch … and then to bed… ready for school the next morning…
