This Past Month…

We were at the Veteran’s Hospital yesterday…

to remove the Chemo Bag Bobby brings home attached to the port inserted in his chest…

He has endured this process going on 6 months…

and is so tired …

but, grateful for the blessing that they find no cancer after a scan…

He has three more treatments… then another scan…

and with all that said…

I still have palpitations in my heart at the thought of each check-up he has!

The Future Farmers of America young people are having a convention in our city of Louisville…

and were visiting at the VA Hospital to meet and talk with some of the Veterans…

They brought flowers… and I was asked if I would like some…

a pretty little bouquet to brighten my day…

I said YES!… of course…

My friend always makes Apple Butter in the Fall…

and I’m lucky enough to get a jar every year…

I can count the years we have been friends by her gifts…

We met three years ago at the YMCA…

How Lucky I was to find her and her husband…

Tasty!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Jill… my old cat…

sits on her bench in the computer room with me every morning…

She watches as the school  bus stops and picks up a little boy across the street who is Special Needs…

We have watched this little boy since he was a baby improve with each year…

and is now walking and attending a school…

Since I worked with these Special Kids all of my life…

I am so overjoyed at his progress!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My Granddaughter won (along with her team)… ha, ha…

this huge trophy for playing 8th grade basketball…

We have watched her play most of her life…

and watched as she has improved and gained confidence every year…

She is the one with the funky glasses of course… celebrating!…

I’ve always said, “She makes me smile!”…

This place below is called Joe’s Older Than Dirt Restaurant…

Been in business since 1937… and I had never been…

When we found it was being bought and would be closing at the end of the month…

we decided to go for lunch…

Bobby, myself, Sister, Brother and his Daughter met there…

It looks small from the photo…

It was originally a house…

but, has been added on to include much more space including an outside area…

with tables for Karaoke Nights!

A few finds from my favorite thrift store…

An Irish Angel…

A Glass Lattice Look Bird Picture…

(Love old pictures)…

and these beautiful Blue Pineapple Vases…

very heavy and and in perfect condition…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The Irish Angel says…

May You Be Blessed Always With,

A Sunbeam To Warm You.

A Moonbeam To Charm You,

A Sheltering Angel,

So Nothing Can Harm You.

and the Bird Picture says…

Cherish each and every friend,

A priceless treasure life will send.

As you can tell I am an Eclectic person…

love all things…

and what catches my eye makes it special to me…

Kitten In A Basket!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Kit Kit had been to the Vet today for her Rabies Shot and a Check-over…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

No, she didn’t ride in a basket… she went in a pet carrier…

and was perfect!…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I was told…

how sweet she was…

what good teeth she has…

what soft fur she has…

what unique coloring she has…

what good health she was in…

We both liked that!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

She just liked the basket I bought at my Thrift Store today!…

Did I need a basket???

well, no…

Do I know where or how I’m going to use the basket???

well, no…

Did that keep me from buying it???

well, no…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Because it was in excellent condition!…

It was so pretty with the weaving and decorations on it!…

The Sunflower Design reminded me of summer!…

It even has little feet on the bottom and a great handle!…

and with my 30% discount today…

It cost me 70 cents!…

I just couldn’t pass that up!

and Kit Kit might use it sometimes!

Making Molded Candy Bunnies and Eggs

I had bought these Easter Candy Molds at the thrift store for 9 cents a piece…

Couldn’t pass up this deal!

Probably last year at the end of Spring…

You have to think ahead sometimes to get those good deals…

If you want an easy thing to do… this is it!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

There was a Tall Bunny and a Short Bunny… both so cute!

After washing and drying molds… I sprayed them “a little” with cooking spray to make them pop out easier…

I just used baking semi-sweet chocolate piecesmelted in the microwave

You can use the bigger squares of almond bark… if you wish…

I do want to make some white chocolate morsel ones too!…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

There was also an egg-shaped one…

I put a few sprinkles in the bottom of the molds for these…

I think I would use more next time for more color!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’m kinda messy… with the pouring of the chocolate into the molds…

so, I wiped with a damp napkin to remove excess…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Place in the freezer for about 1/2 hour… and they pop right out!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I had used 1-1/2 bags of chips and made 20 pieces…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I had placed a sprinkle in the eye area before pouring chocolate… on the bunnies…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The eggs turned out fine… but, as I said… a little more color would have pleased me more…

I Have a Lot of Christmas!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Most of my Christmas items are Thrift Store finds… Usually brand new in their original boxes… and some older… almost antiques…

This cute toy has two fuzzy little reindeer… who prance when turned on by a little switch…

My Daddy and my brother both loved Christmas toys… and I guess I followed their thoughts…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This is an older piece … a Christmas flowerpot…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We have our original Nativity that we bought when we got married… but, I also liked this one that I found…

All white porcelain trimmed in gold…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This little guy is about 2 ft. tall… My niece drew my name at last years BUNCO dinner…

and I received him as my gift… I think he’s adorable!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This Musical Santa plays many songs… Keeps a great beat to every song on his drums…

My husband can’t resist pushing the button every time he passes…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My collection of Snowman Candles on my Snowman Plate… I’ll never burn them…

they are way too cute… The one does have a place for a candle… so it can be lit…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I say “NO MORE CHRISTMAS!”… but, again… I couldn’t resist these three cute Snowman Ornament Photo Holders…

They were brand new… in original box… and cost only $2.00…

They have such details!…

Having 3 Grandchildren… I imagine their pictures will be placed in them…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I hang Christmas Cards we receive on some wall plaques I have behind the Christmas Tree…Works great!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I received these three from fellow blogging friends… It made me so happy to get them in the mail and open them!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’m trying to use up any ingredients I bought for my cookie making…

so…

I had 4 packages of Apple Cider Muffin Mix…

I divided the 1 can of “More Fruit Apple Pie Filling” I had… between the two batches of bread…

leftover almonds and pecans were divided between them also… and then stirred in a pinch of Ginger and Cinnamon…

Sprinkled with Cinnamon Sugar and baked…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It made two big loaves… and now, my husband wants to now when we are going to cut one…

although I had plans to keep in case visitors dropped by…

Since it is the Holiday Season... I believe he will get to taste pretty soon… Why not!

by the way… ALL of this for $20.00… Can’t beat it!

My New “Crossover”…

I needed a new purse… I didn’t know but, the type of purse I’ve grown to like is called a Crossover873093dc28ad2eeec311be8aef7721dc_image_300x300 … because it crosses over the front of my chest…

This leaves my hands free to shop…

You see… I’m a toucher… I have to feel everything… turn it overturn it around… check it out from all angels

Everyone asks, “How do you get everything in that small purse?”…

I just say, “I get everything I need in it!”…

I have a change purse with my license and important cards

I have a card holder for other cards I don’t use all of the time, but want with me…

I have a little notebook and pen to jot down information…

I have lip gloss… brightens me up…

sanitizer… never can be too clean…

a manicure set… that hangnail may need cutting any time…

keys… my car won’t go without them…

a checkbook… rarely use… but you never know…

perfume… smelling good is always nice…

a pill holder… I sometimes get a headache…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

and to be honest I rarely carry a hair brush or comb… My fingers do just right… I’m not too vain…

Getting back to the point… During one of my Thrift Store Shopping jaunts… I found the right Crossover Purse just for me…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It has the neatest bead work and tassels on the straps and at the sides…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I do look or keep an eye out for things I need or want… and there it was!

Brand new… still tagged… great fun colors for summer… and a crossover… leaving my hands free to find more things I need/want when shopping…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Everything fits… and I’m pleased with my purchase

Looking up the brand name on the tag ( Sun ‘N’ Sand) … I found my $4.95 buy was worth $30.00

Not too shabby for a Thrift store shopper… and I like it a lot!

“The Treasure Candle”…

I found this unique candle at my favorite Thrift Store

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Sometimes I see things as little gifts to give to someone… since it was wrapped and brand new… but, I have decided I need a treasure sometime… so I’m going to keep this… and follow the directions placed with it…

It is called a “Treasure Candle”…

This is “The Fable of the Treasure Candle”… rolled up like a tiny scroll

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Once upon a time, in a distant land, there lived a fair Princess k9912365who was in love with a brave young Knight. But, alas, the Knight k12693601was imprisoned by a most evil king.

After longing for her beloved for many a month, the Princess conceived a clever plan. She traveled to a mystical kingdom deep within the earth where she gathered crystals and stones k6128414k6430353with magical powers.

Upon returning home, she made a candle k5414868 in which she concealed the treasures. Then she arranged to have it delivered to her lover in his cold dark dungeon.

The sad and disheartened Knight welcomed the gift of light and immediately burned his candle k11167962 , unaware of its special powers. When the crystal revealed itself, a rainbow appeared from within k13027651 . A wave of joy and love swept through him as he realized the special nature of the gift.

At that moment, the crystal in the candle the princess was burning, also shimmered with a rainbow k4425640 . Then, lo and behold, the two tiny rainbows soared out into the heavens and became one. The power of their love was so great that they were drawn into the rainbow’s arc where neither prison walls nor evil kings could ever keep them apart.

k5301832

Within this candle that I am the beholder of now… I will find a crystal and other gifts of the Earth, each with their own special power.

k0387121

I have decided that what better day to burn this candle… So, I have lit it… and will give you an update later when what is discovered within

Weekly Photo Challenge: Unusual

Gift…

I found this small green vase at the thrift store that I frequent… just had to have it! … Why you ask?… Because it was so “UNUSUAL”…

At first I thought it reminded me of fresh green grass in the early Spring… then, the more I looked at it… it reminded me of the tops of green onions… My first Spring flower will go in it!… It could also be used as a candle holder… Any Spring color of candle would do!… What do you see?

“Bathroom” On a Budget!”

Keepsakes…

After clearing out the Christmas… I put together a little “bouquet” for my bathroom with the leftovers …My colors being red, coral and aqua blue… I liked it!

Some of my other items collected from my bargain hunting trips for this room include…

Red Roses … Pink Flamingo… Coral Flower

Little Girl Tea Light Holders

Pink Roses/White Vase/Aqua Blue Base

These “finds” came from… Big LotsHobby Lobby… Dixie Peddlers Mall and Unique Thrift Store

I find it fun to decorate on a budget… More from necessity at first …now one of my passions!

Love It!…More Than a Million$$$

Did I tell you about the wallpaper I found at  ?…It was by accident of course…that’s the way with Thrift Stores and Yard Sales…You find something you just can’t live without or something gets your senses motivated to do something …even if you weren’t planning on it…I love decorating on apenny budget”so I’m on the look out all the time for unique stuff…Don’t want new stuff !…Don’t want what everyone else has !…I want that Eclectic Look I learned about in my Interior Design Course  I took many years ago…So one day I found University of Louisville wallpaper…industrial type rolls…I just know it had to be used at the University in some area!…Enough on one roll to almost paper a whole small room I have…but, I bought the two that they had…$1.61 a roll = $3.22 for two – 25% discount on the day I bought it = $2.41 … Not too shabby if I do think and say so myself! …So after finding by bargain I HAD to wallpaper the small office  I was making…When you find a deal… “Move on it!”, I say… This wallpaper didn’t SCREAM  Louisville Cardinals…or I wouldn’t have bought it…it is a discreet pattern…Gray background…UNIVERSITY of LOUISVILLE words in red…small writing in the form of squares…with a small…almost tiny Gray Cardinal Bird Head at each corner …It turned out so well…an office look like I wanted…as I said in another blog Bobby and I found the perfect wallpaper border for it…No Cardinals! and since then I have found a neat Black and Gray Retro Clock  for one wall…a small handmade Louisville Cardinal Picture for another small area … and today I managed to talk the Big Lot’s Manager in marking down a Black Wood and Hand Painted Tile Picture…signed by the artist… who does decorative Art Glass work…I told the manager no one else would want the picture but, it needed to be marked down because it was a little dusty and the box was torn He agreed!… So I came home with my purchase and hung it…even if it had cost a million$$$  I couldn’t be happier! My Red Valences were a find too … although I did break down and bought a rod I liked … just couldn’t find one for nothing…but, I tried!…My cork bulletin board that I found at Unique Thrift also…will look fine since I have painted it MY WAYBlack frame…Wallpaper to match walls covering the cork…but, can still use the stick pins just fine …Again I’m pleased!.. I have one more item I will be on the look out for …but, I assure you…I will find it!and will love it better than if it cost a million $$$!

 “MY KIDS!” …

I began working with “My Kids” by accident really…I was volunteering  at Coral Ridge Elementary School …doing Art work…and helping with the PTA…I was called by the Principal asking me , “Would you like a job in a classroom  here at Coral Ridge?” …It would be working with “EMH” students…”What kind of student is that?”, I asked…”They just need extra help with their work…an assistant to help the teacher”… I jumped at this offer…I had always wanted to work at a school…had quit the Telephone Co. to stay home with my boys but, they were both in school…at Coral Ridge …so this would be perfect!…And this “accidental” offer of a job became one of the best things to happen in my life…As I say, “When you find a good deal or a great offer…”Move on it!”  … and I did…At first this job was just a job…but, after awhile…it turned out so well!…It was a perfect match for me and my family…As I continued to work year after year…in different schools…with different people…I would come home talking about my kids that some people would not like or want to work with…but, they made me happy!…I got to the point of making “My Way” work with these children and got along quite well with my co-workers…I can say, “I was quite pleased!”I kept working and looking for better ways to relate to these type of children…and I always found a way … I loved my job better than any I could ever have had…even if it paid a million$$$!
