Daily Prompt: Playtime

Do you play in your daily life? What says “playtime” to you?

Photographers, artists, poets: show us PLAY.

I drew and painted these memories of play when I was young…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Dad put up a swing between two “twin” trees

that grew close together…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I would swing as high as I could…

trying to touch the limbs with my toes…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

When I grew too big to swing between the trees…

and my playing days changed…

my Mom placed this wagon wheel between them…

and the trees grew around them…

I felt the trees embraced me as I played for many years … and then embraced the wagon wheel… when I left…

Leaves to Christmas Tree…

We were going to rake leaves… k9765394

So many still falling… Neighbor’s trees still harboring many yet to fall…

k10972180

So we debated…

Who… really wants to rake leaves?…

We actually blow them a lot… with the leaf blower… so much easier!…

Bobby had already gotten out the Christmas boxes… and I have many!…

There they were staring at me

and the next thing I know… Bobby is in on it… and we are putting up the Christmas Tree

Leaves were forgotten!…

We decided where… to put it…

Got the lights just right… I use just white… seems to show off the ornaments better…

I found some new ones I had bought… and mixed with the older ones… it seemed to work… k7346587

It’s not a fashion tree…k4611704

It’s not a perfect tree… k4755247

It kinda reminds me of the

I didn’t want to have Christmas intrude on Thanksgiving… k0769591but, it seems to have a way of doing it…

and the “leaf story” will be continued later…

Swing Is Looking Lonely…

It seemed to rain leaves today…

The winds are picking up and the leaves were falling from the trees

My yard didn’t have but, a sprinkling this morning… and is now pretty much covered…

It has begun!…

Leaf raking will be soon!…

The colors… How can you describe the wonders of God’s nature… A glorious time!…

The tree in my front yard was all green just a few days ago… and now is turning those Autumn colors we all love…

Daily Prompt: Ode to a Playground

Daily Prompt: Ode to a Playground

A place from your past or childhood, one that you’re fond of, is destroyed. Write it a memorial.

Oh, no!… It’s gone!…

Daddy had erected it in the twin trees that stood maybe 4 feet apart…

The roots had actually grown together and the tree tops were mingled with each other…

A 4″ X 4″ board laid upon the arches of the main limbs that made their way up into the entwined branches and leaves of the two trees…

A chain had been wound and secured to the 4 X 4 … and dangled to just my height for sitting between the trees…

A board seat made from leftover 2″ X 6″ wide wood where my Dad had been building our home

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I decided to draw and paint from memory…

my rendition of this wonderful “playground”…

I’ll title it:

“Swing … Made By Daddy”

You do have to remember I was just a little girl… not, even in school yet…

My legs were short… I was learning to move them back and forth

under and out… as I pumped this magical swing higher and higher!…

The bottom trunks of the trees were white-washed by my Mom… I remember peeling the little paint pieces off of the bark… Supposed to keep bugs and decay from forming…

The seat was replaced a few times… the chain making an indention into the wood

I would swing so high… day dreaming about what my life was going to be like…

My mom sometimes pushing me… singing little songs to me… “Playmate” being one of my favorites!

My toes would touch the hanging branches… A feeling of such exhilaration… a free feeling… an almost out-of-body experience

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI drew and painted “me” …

Title:

“Playmate”… come out and play with me!”

The little girlgrew and so did the trees

It became tight between the twin trees… My elbows starting to bump… the sides of the trees…

When and how did this happen???

My days with the trees had come to and end… I was growing upteen years set in… and my day dreams became more of a reality setting…

My Mom sat an old iron rim of a wagon wheel in between the trees…

A sad day for me… but, as all things…

we had our time and changes evolved…

The twin trees didn’t stop growing… just like the little girl… The wheel became embedded into the trees… forever to be a part of them… and the branches touched by toes were so far up that it seemed they would reach the sky

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI also drew /painted the old wagon wheel

Title:

“Embedded with Memories

So farewell to My Childhood Swing”…

As the wagon wheel embedded itself into your trunks…

You embedded wonderful memories inside me…

Weekly Photo Challenge: “Growth”

Gift…

I decided to check out my photos and see if there was anything that would depict “growth”…

The Oak Tree seed I found seemed to fit perfectly…

It’s hard to imagine how this small seed grows and grows until it makes The Mighty Oak Tree…

“Acorns into Mighty Oaks

When I leave this world I hope
I leave a better place
Where deeds I’ve done
And paths I’ve trod
Have helped the human race;
Where seeds I’ve sown will blossom still
And trees I’ve planted grow
From acorns into mighty oaks I hope I’ve made it so.

For to leave the world without a trace
No footprints in the sand
No memory in a loved one’s heart,
No mark upon the land,
No legacy to show you cared,
No promises to keep,
Must surely make it hard to face
An eternity of sleep.

…………………………………………………………

After reading a few poems I found about this awesome tree… I realized how special it truly was … to even be able to survive and “grow”…

To land in just the right place…

To survive the unknown surroundings…

To keep growing and finally have roots to push down into the soil…

To be watered by rain  sent to nourish it’s growth

To withstand harsh winters and hot summers…

To be left alone to grow without someone deciding it shouldn’t be …

To finally have enough strength to push its roots deeper and deeper into the Earth

To finally grow enough to stand alone…

To become shade from the sun…

To become a limb big enough to hold a swing

To become a writing tablet for lover’s to mark their place…

To become part of that treehouse built with love…

To become a nesting place for young fledglings  in the spring…

To hold a tinkling  wind chime  blowing in the wind…

To be strong enough for boys and girls to climb… looking out as far as they can see…

Maybe even tie a yellow ribbon around me…

…………………………………………………………..

The Acorn

An acorn on an oak tree grew,
The wind around him gently blew,
It whispered to him quite softly
‘Some day from your mother
You will be free
To grow and be a mighty tree’
‘Who’? ‘Me’? A mighty oak’?
The little acorn thought this a joke.

Cruel autumn wind whistled round
And knocked the acorn to the ground.
A little girl passing by
The small acorn she did spy
She picked it up but let it fall
Down a nearby rabbit hole.

All winter long it lay inside
Soon it withered and turned dry

In the springtime a shoot of green
From the acorn could be seen.
It grew and grew, as years rolled by
Soon it reached up to the sky.
So it was a tale come true
A mighty oak
From the acorn grew

One of the Oak Trees in my back yard…

I kept moving back to photograph the top…

and finally got it… about 60 feet tall…

I definitely think this shows “growth!”

” Just a Swingin’ “

My husband loves his swing …He sits and does a lot of thinking under our trees in his swing…It’s wide enough for both of us…and I join him at times…When I was very young…my Daddy built me a swing between two trees  that had grown about 4 feet apart…We always called them the “Twin Trees”…He attached a heavy board, probably a 2″ X 4″…between the trees and then ran ends of a chain  around the board leaving a loop near the bottom in the middle…He notched a board, approximately  1″ X 6″ X 12″ long on each end to fit on the chain for my seatI was elated!…I fit perfectly on this wonderful handmade swing…As I swung I would reach for a certain branch of leaves until I could touch it with my toes …singing a song …with the air pushing my hair back and forthWhat an achievement!…As I would swing the chain indented itself into the wood…Making it quite sturdy… I remember my Mom and I replacing the board a few times…Her cutting the V-shaped notches  on each end just like Daddy had with the original …She could do all that!…I remember her white washing those twin trees    …about 2 ft. up from the ground to keep bugs from climbing and entering the trees…it always looked so clean and neat when she did this…I remember picking the white wash off the trees at times…”just something to do”…I guess I swung on that swing for over 10 years…but, you know what happened?…Those two trees began to grow, and grow and grow until I wouldn’t fit between them anymore …much less have a swing in between them …It was such a sad day …No more swinging and reaching for the leaves on that branch as I sang to the top of my voice my favorite songs…I would miss that  free feeling…losing yourself in your thoughts…Oh, what fun, wonderful times…Two country music artists, John Anderson and “LeAnn Rimes” both have had hit songs called “Swingin’ “…both were full of life …making you want to tap your feet …I guess you could say “We were just a Swingin”…

“My Kids!”…

If we ever went to a park …the first thing the boys wanted to do was find a basketball goal …and the girls would begin running toward the swings There never seemed to be enough…Someone was always left out…having to wait for someone to lose interest and give one up …Then they would have to run to get it before someone else did…I always thought more swings are needed in a park than any other piece of playground equipmentI even want to try one out while I’m at a park…Sometimes I would swing beside a student to see who could swing the highest…I’m a good swinger, but the older you get …  a little more fear  of things … like falling … is on your mind…So most of the time I would let them win…I would have to be the timekeeper at times to give everyone a turn to swing…Some of the girls could swing the whole time we were at the park…I’ve noticed they now have “baby swings“…”horse swings“…”tire swings“…and “rubber swings “… I’m sure there are others I haven’t seen…Up at “Tom Wallace Lake”  they have swings for the kids and also a big, long metal one for the adults…It sits beside the water where you can relax and watch as others try their hand at fishing …But just like any other park…People are always “Just a Swingin”     as we wait our turn…
