The sun is shining... temps up in the 40’s… and a birthday lunch to go to… My Granddaughter turned 19… last Wednesday… but, we all could get together today..

Birthday Girl on left… with little sister!

You know how that is!

She goes to the University of Louisville… but, insists on wearing a University of Kentucky sweatshirt…

As her tatoo says, “She flies with her own wings!”…

Cookie Cake to take home with leftovers… way too much food…

but, will taste good tomorrow!

Looking out at all of the snow still hanging around… makes you just want to stay in…

The cats are fascinated by the snow falling…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The little one who we call “Kit Kit” OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

tries to catch the snowflakes as they fall… Keeps her hopping for sure!

She is very entertaining… Even getting our old girl… Jill

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA … to join in sometimes…

Not a House Divided Tree… U of L All the Way!

Living in Louisville Kentucky… You would think everyone would be a Louisville Cardinal fan…UL

Not so… the Kentucky Wildcats uk in Lexington draw an immense following also… from Louisville rsidents…

It’s Blue vs. Red… Cards vs. Kats… thumb Uof L vs. Uof K…

actually called “house divided” at timesUK 3 … due to family members taking opposite sides…

I never went to either of these universities… so my loyalty had to be chosen… and I seem to sway for the Cardinal Birds of Louisville…418160_310389649078482_820614589_n

My computer room is decorated with University of Louisville WallpaperCardinals sit here and there… https://babyjill7.wordpress.com/2013/02/15/daily-post-a-room-of-my-own/

So when I decided to put up a little Christmas Tree in this room… for me to enjoy during the season… I decided on a Cardinal theme… using what I had left over in decorations…

White lights already on…

131112_002

red ornaments of course… 131112_004131112_003131112_005

and then a few homemade U of L ones to add that Card theme I started…

I remembered we did this at school… when we made these kind of trees to raffle at our Holiday Bazaar… pretty much “house divided” back then with people buying chances…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I printed Cardinal Pictures on photo paper…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Cut out to look like ornaments…

Punched hole at top… added black ribbon…

Simple… no fuss…and my Jill loves it…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Before Card Ornaments were put on she had found her a spot!

Actually her favorite perch… Low enough to lay beside and look out the window…

12 YEARS

12 YEARS!…

That’s how long it takes to go from an Elementary student in first grade to being that “Senior”  in High School

In this case a little girl to a young ladyOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My Granddaughter achieved this small goal in her life yesterday…

along with 265 other students that were in her graduating Class of 2013

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I say… small goal… because it is only one of many she will obtain as the years continue on…

Next will be college… she has been accepted to the University of Louisville Louisville_Cardinals_svg

To say I am proud as a Grandma… Yes, for sure!…

and will celebrate this moment with her…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Poppy and Grandma… with our love…

Yesterday we met at Broadbent Arena… A part of the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center able to hold all of the students… teachers… administrators… parents…grandparents… friends and relatives …

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Marching in…

All there… because of their love of that special child… that they were honoring

Taylor had a little gathering that came to wish her best wishes

I only captured our little cheering section

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Granddaughter with silly face… why do they do that!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Taylor with little sister, Kennedy…

Dad, Melanie (step-mom) , little sister, two cousins from Pittsburg and a friend that came with them and Bobby and myself…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Dad, Kennedy and Melanie…

(little brother at home)…

much too long for him!

but, many others had come to wish her congratulations…

Of course her Mom( Brian’s first wife) with Taylor’s other Grandma… a cousin who is like a best friend… one of her other “best friends” and her parents… and of course her boyfriend

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Best Friend…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Even big girls make silly faces!… with boyfriend…

Of course there were friends and their parents that Taylor had grown up with… and had known all of those 12 years… graduating themselves…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Amber… “best friend” too… has known since first grade!

She always smiles… but, I caught that twinkle of “achievement”u14931924  in her eyes today…

An accomplishment!…

There’s the usual speeches… musick5432485 … and calling of each graduates name as they came forward for their diplomas

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Taylor just received her diploma… Yes, there was a little cheering!

Cheers from the parents and friends as they crossed the front of the auditorium

Hats were flung into the air… A true celebration… and a traditional show that it was over!…

A bittersweet feeling for sure!…

Melanie’s Mom had us all over for dinner…

Her BIG PARTY is TODAY!…

Plenty of good food… and conversation… Taylor invited a few close friends… Actually the ones mentioned… her cousin, her “Best Friend” and her boyfriend… Content as apple pie

We had Boneless chicken breast off of the grillk4888068 , broccoli casserole, hashbrown casserole, salad and good french bread

Yummy!… to say the least… after sitting for 2 hours and getting there an hour early for seats…

I took dessertStrawberry Lemonade Cake

I had planted Poppys and Marigolds about a week ago… Do you see the little sprouts starting???

946505_10200248935005027_1218806216_n My Granddaughter, Kennedy broke her wrist and she finally had it cast today… It’s decorated with University of Louisville colors… black/red… her favorite team…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  I tried to capture the birds who have taken up residence in my little red birdhouse… for the past 3 years it has been occupied   every spring… but, they were just not having it!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  When I took a friend to pick up her prescriptions… she handed me these flowers (yes, they are real)…when she came out…

Just enough for my little vase… Aren’t they pretty sitting in between my funky little birds I bought on Easter clearance…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA I bought my “Lady”  statue from the thrift store many years ago… I thought she was lovely… She’s been sitting inside for a long time… so…

I thought she would look pretty outside in my flower bed… just sitting on her bench… enjoying the sunshine

Kentucky Derby: Derby Celebration Wreath!

I chose to reblog about the events of Derby Time here in Kentucky … from a blog I did in May 2011… (my previous blog)… Take a look!

https://babyjill7.wordpress.com/2013/04/15/special-events-at-derby-time-2/

525272_490497771013828_366221006_n

It pretty much depicts all of the events we have going on… Not all of them of course… The list goes on and on… We usually hit a few… Being older… no little ones at home anymore… but, TV does a pretty good captioning of everything!

The only event I would say… that requires you being there… is “Thunder Over Louisville” Thunder_logo …The fireworks display on the Ohio River … which is our “downtown” Louisville…

Thunder_over_louisville_2006

It is done on a bridge that crosses over into Indiana

220px-Big_4_Fire_II

The noise… the smells… the people… just has to be experienced for itself…

The booms from the fireworks is just like being in a thunderstorm without the rain… It’s deafening!… and makes your body just shake… and your heartbeat seems to explode in your chest…

My Forsythia Wreath has been transformed into a Derby Celebration… to hang on my door and greet visitors…

The rusty horse was from a windchime that had seen better days…

Representing the finest Race Horses and The Winged Pegasus…

The Louisville Cardinal Bird depicts our NCAA Basketball Champions… the University of Louisville Cardinals!…

Both teams… boys and girls (who came in runner-up)… will be the grand Marshalls for the Pegasus Parade

GO CARDS!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The Festival in itself is just awesome… so many activities… and with the purchase of a Pegasus Pin… you get free admission to all events…

Daily Post: A Room Of My Own

I’m not unhappy with my little room that I have acquired to write my blogs… it was a small bedroom before this…

It’s not exactly like I would want it… but, I have a computer table… chair…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

phone… file cabinet… light… drawers for “stuff”… waste basket

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

a small radio to listen to soft music…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

a retro clock found at my thrift store… just seemed to fit…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

my camera for my photos I want to take… pens/pencils/paper/ruler etc. …  a printer…

A stool for Jill , my cat…  where she can look out of the one window… It let’s in enough light… and gives me a view of our front yard…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A bulletin board with stick pins (made by me)… holds a framed quilt piece that reads…

Families are like old quilts…

Although they tend to unravel at times…

Each can be stitched back together…

With Love!

This was given to me as a gift from my cousin…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I can hear my family near by… and I like that!

An extra chair in here also belongs to Jill… She has claimed it as hers to nap on…

along with her throw…

I upholstered the seat cushion in a red/black plaid ( can’t see in photo)

and made a little skirt for my computer table to match… to hide the hard drive and wires…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

closet holds things I have for the grandkids to play with… paper… boxes… crayons/paint/brushes… wrapping paper/ ribbons… It certainly could be organized better…

Family photos adorn one wall… making me smile every time I see them…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The wallpaper has the wordsUniversity of Louisville in red on a gray background

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

so the decor has a Cardinal + theme

Cardinal pictures I also made…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

If you lived in Louisville… you would probably be either a Cardinal fan or a Kentucky Wildcat…k10973922

We’re partial to our Red Birds

Although my favorite color is blue

It’s a hodge podge of sentimental items… thrift store finds… necessities… family photos

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

and a Room To Call My Own…

Love It!…More Than a Million$$$

Did I tell you about the wallpaper I found at  ?…It was by accident of course…that’s the way with Thrift Stores and Yard Sales…You find something you just can’t live without or something gets your senses motivated to do something …even if you weren’t planning on it…I love decorating on apenny budget”so I’m on the look out all the time for unique stuff…Don’t want new stuff !…Don’t want what everyone else has !…I want that Eclectic Look I learned about in my Interior Design Course  I took many years ago…So one day I found University of Louisville wallpaper…industrial type rolls…I just know it had to be used at the University in some area!…Enough on one roll to almost paper a whole small room I have…but, I bought the two that they had…$1.61 a roll = $3.22 for two – 25% discount on the day I bought it = $2.41 … Not too shabby if I do think and say so myself! …So after finding by bargain I HAD to wallpaper the small office  I was making…When you find a deal… “Move on it!”, I say… This wallpaper didn’t SCREAM  Louisville Cardinals…or I wouldn’t have bought it…it is a discreet pattern…Gray background…UNIVERSITY of LOUISVILLE words in red…small writing in the form of squares…with a small…almost tiny Gray Cardinal Bird Head at each corner …It turned out so well…an office look like I wanted…as I said in another blog Bobby and I found the perfect wallpaper border for it…No Cardinals! and since then I have found a neat Black and Gray Retro Clock  for one wall…a small handmade Louisville Cardinal Picture for another small area … and today I managed to talk the Big Lot’s Manager in marking down a Black Wood and Hand Painted Tile Picture…signed by the artist… who does decorative Art Glass work…I told the manager no one else would want the picture but, it needed to be marked down because it was a little dusty and the box was torn He agreed!… So I came home with my purchase and hung it…even if it had cost a million$$$  I couldn’t be happier! My Red Valences were a find too … although I did break down and bought a rod I liked … just couldn’t find one for nothing…but, I tried!…My cork bulletin board that I found at Unique Thrift also…will look fine since I have painted it MY WAYBlack frame…Wallpaper to match walls covering the cork…but, can still use the stick pins just fine …Again I’m pleased!.. I have one more item I will be on the look out for …but, I assure you…I will find it!and will love it better than if it cost a million $$$!

 “MY KIDS!” …

I began working with “My Kids” by accident really…I was volunteering  at Coral Ridge Elementary School …doing Art work…and helping with the PTA…I was called by the Principal asking me , “Would you like a job in a classroom  here at Coral Ridge?” …It would be working with “EMH” students…”What kind of student is that?”, I asked…”They just need extra help with their work…an assistant to help the teacher”… I jumped at this offer…I had always wanted to work at a school…had quit the Telephone Co. to stay home with my boys but, they were both in school…at Coral Ridge …so this would be perfect!…And this “accidental” offer of a job became one of the best things to happen in my life…As I say, “When you find a good deal or a great offer…”Move on it!”  … and I did…At first this job was just a job…but, after awhile…it turned out so well!…It was a perfect match for me and my family…As I continued to work year after year…in different schools…with different people…I would come home talking about my kids that some people would not like or want to work with…but, they made me happy!…I got to the point of making “My Way” work with these children and got along quite well with my co-workers…I can say, “I was quite pleased!”I kept working and looking for better ways to relate to these type of children…and I always found a way … I loved my job better than any I could ever have had…even if it paid a million$$$!
